Hello , hello and welcome to Mamas Cup of Ambition
0:03
, the show for ambitious mamas with big
0:05
dreams and little kids . I'm
0:08
your host , Rachel Mae , country singer , songwriter
0:10
and Mama of 2 , and I'm so excited
0:12
to be here presenting another installment of
0:15
the momversation series . I created
0:17
this series as a way to have fun and honest
0:19
conversations with mamas at every stage
0:21
of their dream chasing journey and , through
0:23
a series of questions curated specifically
0:25
for these momversations , we'll
0:27
get acquainted with the mamas in this community . We'll
0:30
chat about everything from their biggest ambitions
0:32
to their favorite TV shows and everything
0:34
in between . My intention is to create a space
0:36
for inspiration , connection and
0:38
solidarity for us mamas navigating
0:41
the wild world of motherhood and
0:43
dream chasing . Wherever you are in your
0:45
journey , this series is for you . So
0:47
grab yourself a cup of coffee or your favorite
0:49
beverage of choice and let's have a momversation .
0:52
I would love
0:54
to just kick things off by a
0:56
little introduction to who you are and
0:59
what you do .
1:00
Thank you so much for having me , Rachel . I
1:02
am Kim Norton . I am a
1:04
professional home organizer . I
1:07
am based in Southeast Louisiana
1:09
. I have two young daughters
1:11
. I have Aria Grace , who is eight
1:13
, almost nine , and Eden James is
1:16
six . I married
1:18
. My husband is in law enforcement
1:20
and see what else is there
1:22
to know .
1:24
Tell us a little bit more about your business . I think we can
1:26
all , as mamas , collectively raise
1:28
our hand and say who doesn't need
1:30
more organization
1:32
and some systems to keep us organized
1:35
? So I'd love to know more about what you do
1:37
and how you got into that in the first place
1:39
.
1:40
So in my past life worked corporate
1:42
restaurant business . I did that for 12
1:44
years . I became a mom . It's
1:47
very , very hard to juggle restaurant
1:49
life if you've ever been there management and restaurants
1:52
and being a great wife and a great mom
1:54
, i kind of felt like
1:56
I loved it . But I wanted more
1:58
from my life . So I set on a journey
2:01
to try to figure out what that was going to be . Tried
2:03
lots of different things , failed at a lot
2:05
of different things . I just
2:07
sat back one day , kind of defeated , and I was just like , okay
2:09
, what ? Because I just kept getting tired
2:11
of everything . So I was like what is something that I don't
2:13
get tired of ? What is something that never
2:15
gets old ? And so I was like
2:17
, even as a kid , i love
2:20
to organize . I would go to sleepovers
2:22
and all the kids would be playing
2:24
and I'm in my friend's room hiding
2:28
up So great . And I
2:30
was like they invite me over a lot because then
2:32
the room gets clean . It's my stress reliever
2:34
. Whereas for most people organizing
2:36
is stressful And for me I
2:39
love it . It's like a big puzzle to me
2:41
. I love trying to be efficient . I was
2:43
like I never get tired of that . And
2:47
so I started spending more time thinking about it in
2:49
my own home Because at the same time
2:51
I was a newer mom , i was new to having
2:53
a second child , so that kind of threw
2:55
things for a loop . It's like , okay , I've got to figure
2:57
this out . And so , after spending time
3:00
finding ways that worked for me in
3:02
my home and my family , i was like you know what I
3:04
could share this , maybe I can do this as a career
3:06
. And so we had just moved as a family
3:08
to a new town And I was like you
3:10
know , i don't know anybody kind of gave me that
3:12
freedom to just fail . I
3:15
didn't know anybody , nobody knew what I was doing
3:17
, and so I put myself out there here locally
3:19
as a home organizer and
3:22
I started doing jobs and it
3:24
just kind of evolved . And so now
3:26
I do in person sessions here locally
3:28
a few times a week And I've been
3:30
able to meet so many people . Like I said , i didn't know
3:32
anybody here , so I've met friends this way
3:34
. All of my clients have been mothers
3:36
. It was kind of a common thread that I was dealing
3:39
with the same challenges , we were working through the same
3:41
things over and over And I was like you know , i love
3:43
the fulfillment I got from helping women
3:46
and helping moms in a
3:48
way that I could to make their lives easier
3:50
, and so I just I felt called
3:52
to do it on a broader scale , and
3:55
so in the past year and a half
3:57
, i have been spending my time trying to take
3:59
what I've learned , what I know works
4:01
for me and my clients , in person and bringing
4:04
that online and finding
4:06
ways to teach women how to do this
4:08
, even , you know , in other states and around
4:10
the world . That's where I'm at now in my journey
4:13
. I have an online course that I
4:15
just created this year to give
4:17
people the knowledge that they need to get organized
4:19
in a real way for real moms
4:21
and real life . Because
4:24
, you know , i just I think that the
4:26
perception of what being organized is , and all
4:28
the Marie Kondo and the home edit
4:30
and this perfection like it's not attainable
4:32
, especially , you know , when you have young kids Like
4:34
that's not real . And so
4:36
, you know , i really want to change people's perception
4:38
of what organized is and then to help
4:41
them find solutions that really do work for
4:43
them .
4:43
I love that so much . I feel like it's
4:45
such a beautiful
4:48
opportunity to create more spaciousness
4:50
for mamas , like at the heart of what you're doing , because
4:53
I mean I can speak for myself here
4:55
Like I get so bogged down just trying
4:57
to manage all of the stuff And I
4:59
feel like I'm constantly on this hamster wheel
5:01
of purging and then people are
5:03
sending us new stuff for the kids and
5:05
we're like holding on to clothes because I'm like
5:07
my youngest can wear these clothes at some point . So
5:09
it's like you're just managing all of this stuff
5:11
And I feel like the mental bandwidth that
5:14
that takes up trying to just
5:16
manage all of that . It's
5:18
like imagine if you could simplify all
5:20
of that , what you could be doing . Like it's
5:22
hard to just sit down and start working
5:24
on like your business or your side hustle or
5:26
whatever you want to be working on . When you look
5:28
around and there's stuff everywhere and you feel
5:30
like , ugh , i really need to
5:32
like get my house in order . So I
5:34
love what you're doing And I love that you're
5:37
specifically helping moms
5:39
and that you're taking this to a broader audience
5:41
and making it accessible for mommas wherever
5:43
they may be So cool , thank you
5:46
, thank you , i like it .
5:47
Just it's so near and dear to me because , like you said , i
5:49
mean , i'm an entrepreneur , i work from home . When
5:51
it comes to this end of it , yeah , and
5:53
so it's hard to not , you
5:55
know , stop what you're doing and get distracted
5:58
by the dishes , they're all the things , and
6:00
I want people's homes to be a place where
6:02
they can enjoy and live
6:05
life and not a place that causes the stress
6:07
in their life . Yeah , that , for me , is success
6:09
.
6:10
Well , let's jump into these momversation questions
6:12
, because I think that you will probably tell
6:14
us a little bit more about what you're building as we move
6:16
through these questions , so let's jump right in . So
6:19
the first question is what do you dream of
6:21
?
6:22
I dream of just touching
6:25
, you know , as many lives , as many women
6:27
, and helping as many women as I can in
6:29
this area . You know like I'm so
6:31
passionate about it and it's it's something like I
6:33
said it's a universal struggle for all of us
6:35
, yeah , and so I just dream of
6:37
making an impact , a large impact
6:40
, on women with my expertise .
6:41
Yeah , so good , and you're doing that So
6:44
.
6:44
I'm sure trying .
6:46
Tell us a moment that you felt proud
6:48
of yourself .
6:50
I think , one of the hardest moments for me , and it
6:52
seems kind of silly , but when I
6:54
finally left my career
6:57
, i was with a company for 12 years
6:59
and I thought that was it . Yeah , i had one
7:01
plan in life . I had no backup plan And
7:03
when I started to see that what I wanted
7:05
was changing , to make that pivot and
7:08
to do the scary thing because
7:10
I like security , i like predictability
7:12
, and just taking that leap was what I'm proud
7:14
of .
7:15
Yeah , that's something to be proud of for sure
7:17
, because look at the doors that leap has
7:19
now opened . So how incredible that you
7:21
were brave enough to make that move , thank you . So
7:24
what's your biggest challenge right now
7:26
?
7:26
My biggest challenge in in general
7:29
in life . I struggle
7:31
in in all aspects of my life
7:33
to stay consistent , even with organizing
7:36
my own home . You know , something I've discovered
7:38
in the last few years on my journey with organizing
7:40
is that I have ADHD , and so
7:42
that's one of those things where people like you're
7:45
an organizer but you have ADHD . Like that
7:47
, it poses its own . You
7:49
know struggles and opportunities , but
7:51
I think that's what makes me
7:53
unique and it's what makes what
7:55
I teach work for so
7:57
many women , because even if you don't have ADHD
7:59
, you still have a lot going on that can cause
8:01
those inconsistencies . So you know I
8:04
have a lot of techniques to combat that that
8:06
I've used my whole life not knowing
8:08
that it was because I had ADHD . I
8:10
just , if I ever had to use a word to describe
8:12
myself that frustrated me , it's inconsistent
8:14
.
8:15
So I feel that I can
8:17
relate to that . I
8:19
feel like there's some areas where , like , I
8:21
can be so consistent and
8:23
I can find a rhythm , and then there are other areas
8:25
where I like kind of go in waves , or
8:27
it's like I'm really good
8:29
and I'm on top of things , and then I'm like , yeah
8:31
, i finally cracked the code . And then
8:34
I turn a corner and something
8:36
happens and I fall off track and then I'm like
8:38
start over , but
8:41
I always come back , i always come back to it eventually
8:43
.
8:43
What I've learned is that . So this is how
8:45
I combat it . So I cannot be
8:47
consistent . It's just not in me . So instead
8:50
I try to be persistent . Love that
8:52
, As long as I don't quit , I'm OK
8:54
with it . You know it may take me six months , longer
8:56
than somebody else , but I'm not going to quit And
8:58
eventually I'm going to get there .
9:00
That's amazing . That is such a like great
9:03
growth mindset to have and you will succeed
9:05
because of that Just be persistent , keep
9:07
going , don't just quit .
9:09
You know , if I'm trying to work out and I
9:11
miss a day , or miss a few days like you
9:13
, can still work out the next day . It doesn't stop
9:16
you . And once I realized that it's
9:18
really changed a lot of stuff for me .
9:20
That is so good . You just dropped a
9:22
real gym , OK . so
9:24
what would your perfect ?
9:25
day look like . for me , Perfect day
9:28
would just be with my family , with my kids
9:30
, my husband . my immediate family
9:32
and I are really close , Just
9:35
out outside . I
9:37
love to be outside . I love , you know
9:39
, just being in nature and just spending
9:42
time being present . You know no phones
9:44
or worrying about having to take pictures and
9:46
, you know , making sure that you share these moments
9:48
. I just want to be in the moment love that .
9:51
Okay , so do you have a power song
9:53
?
9:53
So I thought about this one a lot too , because I'm
9:55
not very good with like , remembering names of
9:57
things . I don't know song lyrics
9:59
to basically any song . I can tell you a little
10:01
bit . But I was like , okay , what is it going to be
10:04
? So I am a huge Hamilton
10:06
nerd . I love that soundtrack
10:08
. I my kids know up . She's listening
10:10
to Hamilton again . It's what I used to clean my
10:13
house . And the song , my shot
10:15
in there is like that's the song that gets
10:17
me amped up because I don't . I feel like this
10:19
is my shot and I'm not going to waste it
10:21
, you know . So that would be my power song
10:23
. That's what makes me feel strong .
10:24
What a great power song . So , kind
10:27
of hand in hand with that , do you have a mantra
10:29
or a motto ?
10:30
So the thing that I repeat to myself all the time
10:32
is just do it scared . I have
10:35
anxiety . I am
10:37
a people pleaser , so I'm constantly
10:39
worried about , you know , what people will perceive
10:42
me as , and so part of my growth
10:44
is just doing it . Anyway , you know
10:46
, not worrying about what people think , and
10:49
so when I've come to something and I'm like , oh
10:51
, i can feel myself , you know , avoiding it , i'm
10:53
like , you know , just do it scared , just dive in , do
10:55
it scared . So I say that to myself constantly
10:58
right now .
10:59
That's great And yeah , that gets you far too
11:01
Like with your mindset of persistent even
11:03
when you can't be consistent and doing
11:05
it scared .
11:06
You know , when I became an entrepreneur instead of , you
11:08
know , working for a company I needed that . I didn't
11:10
have the tools to keep myself going
11:12
or to keep myself motivated and driven
11:14
, So I've had to do a lot of research
11:17
and this is literally real life , what
11:19
I use to get through my days and to
11:21
push myself on this journey , for sure
11:23
.
11:23
Well , what's your go to indulgence ?
11:26
When I think of this question , i got two things that come to mind
11:28
. So first is food . When I hear indulgence
11:30
, my first thought is food , and my guilty
11:32
pleasure with that is cookie dough
11:34
. So , one thing that's a consistent snack of
11:36
mine , and then the other indulgence
11:39
. Anybody who knows me and spends time
11:41
around me knows that it's Bravo shows
11:43
. I love all
11:46
the trash Bravo
11:48
, all the housewives I just got
11:50
into like summer house and all that .
11:52
Oh man , I could binge that
11:54
, yes , okay , I'm going to grab some cookie
11:56
dough and I will be right over . Let's
12:00
go .
12:01
That is , that's okay . That's my second ideal
12:03
day , you know , outside
12:06
of spending time with the kids . Give
12:08
me some cookie dough and some Bravo TV
12:10
and I am a happy girl .
12:11
Yes , if Louisiana was not
12:13
so far from the Pacific Northwest
12:16
, I would be coming over right now to
12:18
join you for some Bravo . I love
12:20
me some like dramatic trashy TV
12:22
.
12:24
It's like I don't have to have the drama in my life because
12:26
I just lived through them .
12:28
Yes , yes , oh my gosh
12:30
. So good , okay , so kind of just touched
12:32
on this , but you're not so guilty
12:34
pleasure TV show Like .
12:35
Is there one Bravo show that you're
12:37
like , oh well so I
12:39
love Bravo shows and I watch those , like
12:41
you know , as they come . I'm going to binge
12:43
something Bridgerton , all
12:45
the Bridgerton series . I've just
12:47
been to Queen Charlotte the weekend it came out
12:49
a few weekends ago . I love anything
12:51
that's period piece . Obviously , Hamilton Bridgerton
12:54
is kind of a theme there . But yes , right
12:56
now I actually will watch the multiple
12:58
times . I like to watch things that I've already seen
13:00
in the background while I do work , And so
13:02
Hamilton or Bridgerton
13:04
or things that I'll just kind of keep on the TV while I'm
13:06
working .
13:07
That's great . I haven't watched Bridgerton yet , but I hear
13:09
people talk about it all the time . I feel like
13:11
I have missed a big
13:13
, a big moment somewhere
13:15
where I just missed the boat and I need to go
13:17
back and catch up . You haven't
13:19
missed it , you've got plenty of , there's only two
13:21
seasons .
13:22
Well , I guess three . if you count Queen Charlotte
13:24
, you're not that far behind . They've got like seven
13:26
kids and each kid has enough season
13:28
, so you can catch up .
13:30
Okay , good to know , i'm going to add it
13:32
to my list . So , from
13:34
guilty pleasure TV to the like , deeper
13:37
philosophical question here but what's
13:39
something that you wish someone had told you
13:41
before becoming a mama ? Oh gosh
13:43
.
13:43
I'd say , before I became a mom
13:45
, to be flexible , you know , to
13:47
not lower expectations , but just
13:50
go into things and just let
13:52
them be . Sometimes , if you
13:54
always trying to predict what's going to happen with kids
13:56
, like you're sadly mistaken , and if you
13:58
have these preconceived notions about what your
14:00
kids are going to be or who they're going to be , based
14:03
off of who you are , let that go and
14:05
let them be who they're going to be , and
14:07
allowing them to do that and watching
14:09
it and just it's beautiful . And so letting
14:11
go of the expectations you have for your kids
14:14
or for yourself as a mom , like just let
14:16
it become when it's going to become . I love that .
14:18
So your go to influencer
14:20
. This could be like a blog or a podcast
14:22
.
14:22
I love to listen to podcasts . That's one
14:25
of those things that I do when I take walks
14:27
or when I'm on a long car ride . So I
14:29
have two people that I listen to consistently
14:31
, actually like look forward to their episodes
14:33
each week , and it's Jenna Kutcher and
14:36
Tanya Eliza . We don't know her , so
14:38
she's not as well known . She's
14:41
also a marketing entrepreneur . She doesn't necessarily
14:43
like do , like course creating and things like
14:45
that . She has courses , but she more
14:47
so talks about the branding
14:49
side of it . I guess I kind of just take
14:52
both of them and kind of morph it together
14:54
to kind of grow my business . But yes , those two
14:56
I listen to every week . I wait for their next episode
14:58
.
14:58
Awesome .
14:59
Okay , So your favorite
15:01
product or resource that has made mom
15:03
life easier Okay so I'm going to
15:05
do a little bit of self promotion
15:08
, just because it's something
15:10
that I've created that we use as
15:12
a family . That I think is super , super
15:14
useful , and so it's actually one of the freebies
15:16
that I have available on my website , and
15:19
it is a morning
15:21
and afternoon checklist for your
15:23
day , okay , so another thing that
15:25
I've learned for myself and
15:27
for my family is that we don't do very good with
15:29
routine . We talked about the fact that I'm
15:31
not very consistent , yeah , and so I
15:33
don't like to do the same thing in the same order
15:35
every day . It becomes boring And then I'm
15:38
uninteresting . Yeah , there's certain things in
15:40
your life that need to get done regularly
15:43
. You know , every day my kids need to brush their teeth
15:45
, but for me to like remember that every
15:47
day and keep track of it is just
15:49
my mind doesn't want to do it , and so
15:51
we have checklists that I've created that
15:53
we can put those things on . Those things are important
15:56
, that I want them to do consistently , and
15:58
they can grab the checklist and I
16:00
tell them I don't care what order you do it in . If you
16:02
want to brush your teeth and then go eat breakfast
16:04
, that's on you
16:06
, but I would advise you not to , but
16:08
it just it's a way for you to dump those things
16:11
that you're like . I want to make sure my kids do
16:13
this every day or every weekday or whatever
16:15
it may be , but I don't want to keep it in my
16:17
brain because I've got a million
16:19
other things in my head that my
16:21
kids reading for 15 minutes . At the end of the
16:23
day I don't always remember that . So
16:25
they're totally customizable . You can go
16:27
in there through Canva and so it's a link to
16:30
a template and you can make it what it needs
16:32
to be for your family . There's two versions
16:34
. There's one with words and then there's one with
16:36
pictures , because at the time
16:38
my little one couldn't read when I made them two
16:40
years ago , and so I didn't
16:42
want to have to keep reading it off to her because I'm a little
16:45
lazy , and so you
16:47
put the pictures and they associate it
16:49
and we laminated them and
16:51
it's made our mornings and our after
16:53
school and before bed . It just it
16:55
makes life so much easier .
16:57
Oh my gosh , that's great . I'm going to go download these when
16:59
we're done . I made something kind
17:01
of similar for my son , waylon , for
17:03
his bed time routine and it's got the pictures
17:05
which just kind of walk us through and
17:07
it's laminated and he'll go and point to
17:09
like , okay , like we're doing bath and then we're going to go
17:11
potty , and it's been great because
17:13
he has that sense of autonomy
17:16
and he knows he's like a part of what
17:18
happens and can tell us what's next
17:21
. But I haven't brought that strategy
17:23
into other parts of my day and I can see how
17:25
that would be really really beneficial and helpful
17:27
to have something like that .
17:29
Well and then . So with these speclos too , like you can
17:31
customize the background and all that , and I always advise
17:33
everybody , like let the kids sit down with
17:35
you and pick the pictures , or
17:38
, you know , pick the background . And because
17:40
anytime you can give , like you said , that kids
17:42
the autonomy or that ownership , like
17:44
this is your checklist You made it today
17:46
will be way more on board . So I made it to where
17:48
you can . You can completely customize it . You could
17:51
redo the whole thing basically , but it just
17:53
gives you a good starting point . That's awesome
17:55
.
17:55
I'm so glad you shared that . We'll make sure that
17:57
we link to that in the show description too
17:59
, so people can easily find it and get their
18:01
hands on that . Yes , for sure , okay
18:03
, answer this question . I'm obsessed
18:05
with .
18:06
I am obsessed with making things easy
18:08
. You know , when I'm in person with a client
18:10
, as I'm going through their stuff , you know
18:13
we're decluttering . I'm looking at all of it
18:15
and I'm looking at how they live with it and where
18:17
it's being used and how can I make it easier
18:19
to get to and easier to put away
18:21
? because the easier it is to get to and the easier it is
18:23
to put away , the more likely that you're
18:26
going to do it . And so in that part of my life
18:28
, that's what I do at home . I'm constantly
18:30
trying to find ways to be efficient . And how
18:32
do I make all these other , all these responsibilities
18:35
in life easier so that I do have more
18:37
time to be present with my kids and spend that
18:39
time with the kids ? So that's what I'm obsessed with
18:41
efficiency and making life easy .
18:44
Okay , your dream vacation
18:46
. What's your dream vacation ?
18:48
So , on top of
18:51
being a home organizer , i am also
18:53
a travel agent specializing
18:55
in Disney vacations . Disney
18:57
is my happy place . I didn't dig into
19:00
it until recently . Like why do I love
19:02
Disney so much ? Like , why is that where I want to go
19:04
every time I go on vacation ? And for me
19:06
and for a lot of people , you
19:08
really can escape the real world . You know
19:10
, like Disney does it on purpose . You won't
19:13
find a newspaper in Disney world
19:15
, which I mean these days . you have your phone but
19:17
there's not a lot of the outside world
19:19
Like you . when you walk through those doors , you're
19:21
there , you're immersed and you
19:23
can really be present and let go
19:25
. And yeah , it's just something about it
19:27
, the permission that it gives to just be a kid
19:29
, be a kid with your kids , like I
19:32
loved it before having kids , but oh , experiencing
19:34
it with them is just the
19:36
best . Like it's absolutely the best
19:39
. And you know , me and my husband just went on a trip
19:41
a few weekends ago , just me and him . We went
19:43
to Epcot for a day and we went to Universal
19:46
. But even without the kids we were more silly
19:48
, we were more like We're free
19:50
and all that And so yeah , so my
19:53
perfect vacation is any time we can go
19:55
to any of the Disney parks , my gosh .
19:57
Well , that's good to know , because that's something my
19:59
husband and I talk about all the time . We
20:01
love Disney too , and that's something we really
20:03
want to do with our boys . I want to wait until
20:05
my youngest is just a little bit older
20:07
to make like traveling with the two of them
20:09
a little easier , but I am definitely going
20:12
to circle back to you when the time comes to
20:14
get all of your like
20:16
support . Yes .
20:18
Yes , i can help you plan it . I can
20:20
give you some tips and advice . I've been
20:22
there with my kids at all ages . Like
20:24
I said , my oldest one's nine now , so we've been going
20:26
since she was little .
20:27
I should just have you back to do a whole episode
20:29
about like Disney with kids . I bet there would be
20:31
a lot of people that would Oh yeah , I
20:34
would love that too . So
20:37
cool This . I see I did not know this about you
20:39
. So how cool . Ok
20:42
, fill it the blank .
20:43
I feel most like myself when I'm
20:46
, i feel most like myself
20:48
when I'm with my family . It's
20:50
sort of a weird thing . So , like I told you that
20:52
, i've recently discovered that I have ADHD
20:54
And so we're a little weird , to
20:57
say it nicely , and so I
20:59
guess for me , like a lot of the quirks and things
21:02
that I had , that turned out to be ADHD . I
21:04
just thought they were normal And it turns out it's because
21:06
I'm in a family full of us who
21:08
probably have ADHD And we're kind of all
21:10
like that . And so
21:13
in the world , when you have ADHD
21:15
and your brain doesn't operate like everybody
21:17
else is , you mask a lot , whether
21:19
it's in school and social
21:21
company . You don't always put your
21:23
real self out And you don't . There's many different
21:26
versions of yourself that you can
21:28
put out there . But when I'm at home with
21:30
my family , the people that I grew
21:32
up with and raised with , i can truly
21:34
just be my weird self , i guess , and I'm
21:37
getting better at being that
21:39
for the world . But it's
21:42
taken a lot of time and a lot of growth to do
21:44
that . But yeah , that's where I'm most comfortable for sure
21:46
, so good .
21:47
Ok , i know we kind of touched on this with
21:49
I dream of , but what's your
21:51
current ambitious goal ?
21:52
It's really right now is to
21:55
help as many women and moms
21:57
to find success
21:59
with organizing their homes . Because , like I
22:01
said , when I go into those clients' homes you
22:03
can see the overwhelm and the stress
22:05
when I get there . There are so many clients
22:07
who it may take me a
22:10
few times of them canceling my consultation
22:12
because they're so scared to let somebody
22:14
in that world . And every time I go for that
22:16
consultation by the end of it they're
22:18
like hugging me and crying because they're
22:20
just like you don't judge me , like you make
22:22
me feel understood , you make me
22:24
feel like it's going to be OK . And then by the time we
22:27
work on the session , just you know they're
22:29
booking the next session and you know I'm working five
22:31
, six , seven sessions with people trying to get the
22:33
whole house situated because they're
22:35
not doing it alone now . But they also don't feel
22:37
like they're being judged , because I understand
22:40
, because I've been there , i'm , i've
22:42
still get there at times .
22:43
Yeah , that's so powerful . I
22:46
wonder if so much of that too plays into
22:48
the like what we see blasted
22:50
on social media . And if you get on Pinterest
22:53
or if you're on Netflix , even Pinterest and Instagram
22:55
I look looking at those pretty things and
22:58
like I love the home edit , i love watching
23:00
that and thinking like that's pretty from the
23:02
TV But like that probably
23:04
like contributes pretty mightily
23:06
to us as mamas feeling
23:08
like some sense of shame around our
23:11
real houses and the way that
23:13
our houses look . And yes , we need support
23:15
and systems and organization . There
23:17
are ways that we can do things easier , like you're saying
23:20
, but how powerful that you're able to
23:22
go into someone's home
23:24
and normalize , like hey , you're not
23:26
alone , there are ways to make
23:28
your life easier and you don't need to feel
23:30
bad about where you're at .
23:32
Let me guide you to a more
23:34
manageable place And you said the word shame
23:36
and I just did . I had a podcast episode
23:38
come out recently about the shame of your clutter
23:41
and how to let go
23:43
of that shame and just accept
23:45
it . Yeah , because a lot of time that shame is what holds
23:47
you back , and so you really have to just
23:49
let that go , which is not that
23:51
easy to do . So it's a three part series
23:53
, and the first part of that series is how
23:56
to let go of the shame . The second part is how to
23:58
let go of the overwhelm And then the third
24:00
is how to actually take action
24:02
on your items .
24:03
Oh , amazing . OK , we got a link to that too . It's
24:06
going to be like a whole list of links in
24:09
this show description because you've got so much
24:11
goodness for us . OK
24:13
, so I'm known for .
24:16
I am known for , the
24:18
best term to say is , I guess , the practical organizing
24:21
. Being a practical organizer for real
24:23
life , real people , real homes
24:25
, I just , you know I would watch Home
24:27
Ed and all that And to be honest , it would give me
24:29
anxiety And I'm an organizer
24:32
And you know , for a while I was like that's what
24:34
I had delivered to people And I'm like they
24:36
don't want that . You know , I'd go into somebody's house
24:38
and start talking about these containers And
24:40
they're like we already have containers . And
24:43
so I've learned I use most
24:45
of the time I use what you already have , Because once
24:47
you've called me , you've already tried . Yeah , You bought
24:49
all the things and you've tried to set
24:51
it up . And so instead of spending more
24:53
money on this acrylic that's going
24:55
to crack the first time your kid drops the cereal
24:58
on the ground , or spending
25:00
thousands of dollars on that , like , save your money
25:02
, Let's use what you have And then , once
25:04
the system is in place , then you can upgrade the
25:06
product . But yeah , so I guess I just I
25:08
try to do things practically . I'm a practical
25:10
organizer , Love that .
25:12
OK , and most folks don't know
25:14
Most people didn't know that I had ADHD
25:16
.
25:17
I mean , my perception of that as a kid was
25:19
usually the boy in class who was hyper
25:21
and bouncing over walls and said what he
25:23
thought . You know I was the people
25:26
pleaser , quiet teachers , pet
25:28
, and you know I was gifted and
25:30
I had great grades . But on the inside
25:32
I was . It manifested differently
25:34
, though , with you know , when I see people now
25:36
for my childhood , they tell them I have ADHD
25:39
, like they think I'm crazy , like what
25:41
you know , like you were perfect camp
25:43
, you know , and what they didn't know was that on
25:45
the inside I was struggling
25:47
, like that was hard And so , yeah , it's been a
25:49
journey .
25:50
Yeah , i feel like it's so . Especially when you're
25:52
people pleasing , it's really easy to , like you said
25:54
before , mask some of those parts of yourself
25:56
, because it feels like , well , this is
25:58
sort of how people know me and see
26:00
me And I don't want to let down that expectation
26:03
of how they view me . So , yes
26:05
, big time . Yeah , ok
26:07
, fill in the blank , i do blank
26:09
. So my kids ?
26:12
I do the self work so
26:14
that my kids will hopefully
26:17
not have to do as much self work
26:19
. Yeah , i spend a lot of time
26:22
trying to be the best version of myself
26:24
and the best mom that I can be for them
26:26
so that when they grow up they're a step ahead
26:28
. I'm not expecting my kids to grow
26:30
up and say I had a perfect childhood and
26:32
you did everything right . Nobody is
26:34
, you know , but I know that my mom
26:37
has done better than what her mom
26:39
did And I just want to continue
26:41
that growth and pass it along
26:43
to my kids . That's a great one .
26:45
Our last question here . Actually
26:47
it's second to last because I'm going to have you share where
26:49
we can find all of your stuff . So second
26:52
to last . But what fills your cup
26:54
, both literally and figuratively
26:56
?
26:57
This is going to be . I swear I'm like a five
26:59
year old child . Literally my cup
27:01
sugar-free grape Kool-Aid
27:03
. I know most people
27:05
wouldn't admit that as a 34 year old
27:07
that I drink Kool-Aid . Most of the time I hate
27:10
water . I hate the taste
27:12
of water , so I've
27:14
settled for , if I want to stay hydrated
27:16
, that I have to drink something that I like right
27:19
now Grape Kool-Aid . Is it So
27:21
that literally fills my cup ? Figuratively
27:24
, it's just making an impact on people . It's
27:27
with my home organizing . But when I
27:29
was in the restaurant business I would
27:31
do the same . I was always coaching
27:33
and teaching and mentoring there
27:36
with people . I just want to help however
27:38
I can , and so the great thing about the organizing
27:40
is now I've realized , like my unique
27:42
way , that I can help people with a unique
27:45
problem , versus just like trying to help
27:47
everybody in every way , doing
27:49
that burden to just every time somebody has a problem
27:51
, fix it . To try to like narrow
27:53
it down and just say you know what ? this
27:55
is my expertise . How can I help
27:57
people with ?
27:58
that , yeah , so good . Okay
28:01
, well , where can everybody find you
28:03
? Where can they work with you and connect
28:06
with you ? Give us all the ways .
28:07
Okay , so my website is liferealignedwithkimcom
28:11

28:14

my website if anybody's
28:40

29:09
and so eloquently So thank you so much
29:11

29:43
you how much your support means to me . And

to me if you would take a moment to leave the show
29:52

29:54
really your thing , consider sharing the show with

30:09
be strong . I'll talk to you soon .
