Are you looking for courses to learn millinery?

I have been receiving a number of enquiries lately about courses in hat making/millinery. I am planning more articles and possibly a podcast on the subject.

How do you start a career in millinery? To what level do you aspire? Do you just want to make hats for yourself or as a hobby?

You can find information on some available courses at hatcourses.com where there is a directory of millinery instructors. The Directory is prepared by How2Hats who are based in the UK. There are a few offerings listed in North America but perhaps more will be added later.

According to the website, the International Directory of hat making courses and teachers. Whether you’re looking for a course to get you started or a place to extend your range of skills, you’ll find details listed here. We also provide details of millinery teachers who are able to take individual students for tailor made study.

This Directory is therefore worth a look whether you are an absolute beginner or just want to hone up on a particular skill.

How great would it be to combine a vacation with learning millinery skills?

One example are the master classes offered at the Chateau Dumas in Auty France (near Toulouse) .

Millinery master classes at Chateau Dumas offer expert tuition in a well equipped studio, delicious home made food and elegant accommodation in an authentic and beautiful 18th century chateau near Toulouse in Southwest France. An interesting feature of the course is a visit to a hat factory that dates from 1824.

There are three offerings in 2010 and one is for complete beginners. The July class features a trip to the Estivales du Chapeau, an international hat festival. Find out more information in their brochure. The Fees include trips and accommodation and look reasonable especially given the current depressed state of the Euro in the foreign exchange markets

Note – I am not affiliated with any of the sites mentioned in this post.

Request for input.
