“Small” is relative, but if you’re trying to sell your home and it’s one of the smallest in the neighborhood, here are a few tips that might make it look bigger and more appealing to buyers:

  1. Place mirrors in & around your home. Using mirrors in rooms reflects both indoor and outdoor light, giving the appearance and illusion that the room is bigger than it actually is.
  2. Go lean & sleek with furniture. When it comes to furniture for small spaces, the best option is to go with a lean and sleek design.
  3. Place curtain rods closer to the ceiling. This will give the optical illusion of a higher ceiling, and therefore a larger room. If you’re using drapes, don’t use ones that flow outward into the room. That will eat up valuable floor space.
  4. Built-in furniture is key. Built-in bookcases and entertainment centers can save space. This does become a permanent fixture of a home that you can’t take with you, however, so make sure that the space is suitable for all built-ins.
  5. Reduce clutter. Ultimately, the best way to make a small home look bigger is to reduce the amount of things you have in the home. This will make it more appealing to buyers, get you more offers, and reduce the amount of time your home sits on the market.

Reducing clutter is the best way to make a small home look bigger.
