Yes, I create self-help videos.  And yes, I wrote a self-help book.  (Soon to be a major motion picture ... just kidding).  So why in the world would I make a blanket statement that all self-improvement offerings suck?  

Hmmm, perhaps this is just a clever ploy to illustrate something deep and even a wee bit sinister?

Tl;dr: It's a booming industry out to make money, gurus come in all flavors, good and evil, the reasons you want self-help are pretty dark, it's a jump ball as far as who is responsible for the advice you take, and finally, you're going to need to roll up your sleeves.  Slackers beware.
