My teaching philosophy in one that is always in process, because implicit in ongoing experience and reflection is the willingness to reexamine previously held assumptions. However, central to my philosophy of teaching is a commitment to be true to myself, to be reflective, and to engage students actively in the process of learning. I offer a quote by Helen Hislop (1990), a longtime PT educator, as a summary of my belief of teaching students in physical therapy: …what we as educators must cease is preparing students in our own image. That might be the greatest disservice of all… for the most profound gift we can offer is time for contemplation, exploration, and examination
Today I sit down with Dr. Mark Reinking to discuss the risk factors and treatment of medial tibial stress syndrome, the future of PT, and advice for new grads looking to enter the sports physical therapy world.
