Hannah and Claire chat with Dr. Samira Rajabiabout experiences of the body and the role that online communities can play in our healing from traumatic events. Samira is a researcher and scholar on trauma and digital media, looking at how people use social media to find spaces for coping after trauma. She recently published her first book, All My Friends Live in My Computer, available for purchase on Bookshop.org and Amazon.
In this episode, Samira recounts learning to listen and talk to her body from a very young age when she started getting severe headaches. She discusses the changing narratives that she and others placed on her body over time and reflects on the personal and societal impact of those narratives. Samira also shares her experience of having a brain tumor, including how people responded to her in medical situations and the role online trauma communities played in her healing.
