A continuation of Episode 3:
We invited a special guest for this great topic! Zafar Sumler is a Counselor at the Student Health & Counseling Center at Fresno State. He is part of the Men’s Success Initiative Committee and is focusing his efforts on our brand new MENtorship Program sub-committee to help us unveil the new program this Fall 2020.
The purpose of this episode is to talk about the stigmas that exist with men and mental health. Why do young men withdraw from seeking counseling services at their university? Why is weakness associated when men cry? Zafar will share intentional tips on how men can seek help from counselors and other professionals in their circle.

How many times have you heard this saying, "Real Men Don't Cry"? This is such a flawed misconception. Men do and should in fact cry. Most times it's not shown through actual physical tears, but we show it with our facial expressions, in the tone of voices, and sometimes we show through our actions. Having emotions are associated to weakness and this needs to change. Men suffer needlessly because of stigmas that are put on us through cultural and social norms. We see it in the media, pop culture, and in the circles, we surround ourselves with. There needs to be a mindset and perception shift to help our men succeed! The change starts with you!
