Today’s episode is all about wearable tech.

 

Today, your host Jaidyn takes you through a solo episode where she explains the history of wearable tech. By describing its early beginnings to today’s 61 billion dollar industry, Jaidyn reminisces on some trends while unraveling the many facets of wearable tech such as the iPod, to more recent endeavors of smartwatches to smart clothing and glasses. We define wearable tech and how to distinguish between how these devices are perceived and what their functionalities can accomplish.

Today, Jaidyn takes you through her own experience with the Apple Watch and reflects on its value. We discuss scientific research on behaviour from psychologist B.F.Skinner, and how this research can be applied to exercise regimens prescribed by modern-day smartwatches. Jaidyn discusses the impact that these reward systems have on our day-to-day behaviours.

 

Jaidyn asks that you consider these three critical questions before purchasing a smartwatch: 1) What are my needs and fitness goals?, 2) Am I being skeptical of major advertising claims?, 3) Am I doing my research on the device's basic functionalities?.
