Mindfulness has two key ingredients: awareness and acceptance. Awareness is the knowledge and ability to direct focus and attention on one’s inner processes, experiences and emotional states. Acceptance is the ability to observe and accept—rather than judge or avoid—those inner processes, experiences and emotional states. Mindfulness creates an inner calm that helps one avoid the extremes of life. It releases stress and anxiety caused by regurgitating the past or worrying about the future.
