Hello everyone. It is Brett Williams here with Moments of Wisdom with Brett Williams. Now I'm gonna be straight up here. Right now, I'm looking at all of the other episodes that I've gone through on that side and going, Ah, cool. Had really good structures for all of those. And today the reality is that I just want to talk.

So sit back and listen. I have no idea where today's episode is going to go, but there's a few things that have been going on in my world that have, uh, I guess you could say shaped a few thoughts and th and that side of things. And I know there's some, there's good stuff in there. So I've got a bit of a, a structure, got a bit of an idea.

Uh, but at the end of the day, I am going to just use today's episode just to be able to share some thoughts and hopefully there's some wisdom in there that you are able to gather and take it for your own life as well. And the first and focus that I'm gonna go on to today is to looking into opportunities.

Now, opportunity is something that, uh, you can see when it comes up and perhaps there's a conversation that goes on in your head that. I have no idea how to be able to do that. And I would agree that not every opportunity is an opportunity to say yes to. However, there are definitely opportunities that have probably presented themselves to you that may have scared you a little bit and may have, uh, had you questioned whether or not you can actually do it.

And from that sort of things you've got and said.  now. These are the opportunities that I wanna talk about today recently, as those who have, uh, been following along with this podcast for. The few episodes that I've done over a slightly longer period of time will know that I, I've got a few different things that I focus on, marketing agency and, uh, the main one, uh, coaching business, which is also being revamped at the moment.

So, um, stay tuned for that one. But also recently, I've actually got back into the drafting world. So, uh, AutoCAD architect, like not architectural, but uh, more along the lines of AutoCAD, uh, and that side of things. So designing. Not doing this, but this is what I used to do, designing chz tanks, conveyors for mining process plants.

But there was an opportunity that came about that's allowed me to start a, basically a drafting agency. So for any engineers out there that might be listening, or anybody who is an architect or anybody along those lines that is needing a drafting team to be able to create all of their AutoCAD drawings cause they don't wanna be doing it themselves, then that is essentially what we can.

Um, here at RP drafting. Might as well throw that in there. The website in the process at the moment is, uh, still a work in progress, but head over to to rp group.co and you'll be able to find some more information about there. Anyway, , that was a bit of a shameless plug that I, I actually didn't have any intentions of doing, but I wanted to talk more about the opportunity side of things.

Recently, uh, this opportunity presented itself, but it meant that there was gonna be a few sacrifices on my side, but also at the same time, I was massively stepping outta my own comfort zone. The area of work that we're doing these days, or within the drafting world now is actually residential home, uh, structural drafting now working with a structural engineering client that has, um, architectural, uh, clients themselves that send through the details and basically needing the structural designs done.

Now, I've never, ever drawn a house in my life. Um, I did work in the housing industry for a little bit. I understand at least here in Australia, you know, some of. Uh, I guess design principles that happened for a house and stuff like that. But at the end of the day, it was something that I had absolutely no idea about.

Now this is what I wanna come back to, I guess you could say within today's, uh, moments of wisdom, saying yes to those opportunities, but saying yes to it in a way that, uh, gives yourself a little bit of leeway. Now, These are the opportunities that you may be questioning whether or not you can actually do it, whether or not , you have the knowledge, the spirits, um, whatever it is.

Now, I'm not saying go and promise the world and, and completely under, under deliver. What I'm saying is that when I got into this position, I said, Look, My experience in the past has been over here. I've not done it over here, but I understand at least the fundamental basics of the software. And that was realistically the, the core part of the actual, uh, conversation that was had and.

From that point in time, the expectation within this opportunity wasn't that I was the expert, it was a case of leveraging their knowledge to be able to set up the systems and team, which I've already started to set up all the systems and team. So from that part, I'm almost hands off for the, uh, the first client and being able to start looking into more clients and that sort.

But that's a side comment. So when it comes to talking about the opportunity side of things, saying yes to it, What I'm, what I always say when somebody asks me about starting a business or, um, you know, going down that path, you need to at least have what I say, 5% knowledge. Now 5% is probably a little bit too small.

Um, But at the end of the day, you need to have a level of knowledge that is kind of something that you can use as your foundation. So for me, in this opportunity, I understood all of this AutoCAD software and understood the basic design principles and all of this sort of stuff. Great. , I have that 5% knowledge.

There's a whole punch of other knowledge that I didn't have, but I had at least that core part of the knowledge. And so that is something that is very, very crucial with saying yes to the opportunities, have that 5% knowledge. Now, , the chances are if you are anything like I, I'm gonna say used to be, but the reality is, is still probably kind of a little bit, but I've definitely got better at it these days.

I'm a sort of person who likes to know 100% everything. Before I do anything. And so coming back to that rule of having that 5% knowledge is something that is going to be very contradictive to that. There's no questions about it. However, what it does is it gives you the, the foot in the door because you, at the end of the day, you do not know what that opportunity is going to lead you to in that side.

So, Um, having that 5% and knowing that with every step that you mo move forward, you, it, it is just a conversation away from gathering more information. And that's the biggest thing. Communication is a big part of all of this. Something I teach in some of the, in the coaching programs on that side, but it.

It's being able to, again, set those expectations, know that you've got that foundational knowledge and being able to, to move forward from there and know, and this is probably a big part, understanding how you learn and knowing that with every day that you are able to learn more and to grow and that side of things.

And I'll be honest. It's been seriously uncomfortable, but at the end of the day, I know what I'm doing. And I guess actually probably another bit, as I said, today's gonna be a bit around the place, but there's a few different thoughts that are flowing through my head in and around this. It's about knowing the end goal as well.

So coming into this and saying yes to the opportunity, I knew I had at least 5% know. , I knew I had a clear picture as to what I was going to create through this opportunity, and it's that middle part in there that has been the part where it's about learning. Growing knowing that I'll figure it out.

Because if you've listened to, uh, episode 10 talking about trusting yourself and talking about your true traits and really being able to know who you are and talking about the one of those traits being resiliency and that side of things, then you know that you can keep moving forward. So at the end of the day, I'm gonna challenge you if you have an opportunity that is showing up right now.

Uh, Could be business, it could be career, it could be personal, it could be whatever it is, and it's something that you feel like you could give it a go and it may or may not open up a door. That could be something bigger. On the other side of it, I'm gonna challenge you as long as you have 5% knowledge around that thing, whatever it is, and a clear outcome that you would want to achieve from that opportunity to say yes to that opportu.

To say yes to it and say yes to yourself, as well as kind of like a bit of a cliche thing, but you know, it is, it's saying yes to that growth. And at the end of the day, if we're here and we're just sitting, still sitting dormant, doing the exact same things day in, day out, is that really living at the end of the day?

I've got a, uh, I guess a, a decision making, uh, philosophy in my head. It kind of goes along the lines of, of Steve Jobs. . Whereas for mine it's a little bit different. It's a case of if I'm laying on my deathbed, will I regret doing this or not doing this? And depending on which way that answer is, I obviously make that decision.

So I challenge you to do the exact same challenge yourself to say yes to the opportunities, cuz you never know what might come out from the other side of it. At the end of the. Rounding out my story. What has come out of it is a very, what is starting to become a very lucrative, uh, business that is going to.

Solve a solution for many, many individuals, uh, within the mining and, uh, design space. So that's huge in itself an opportunity that I kind of had a bit of a feeling that that was gonna be my outcome. That's where I wanted to head. Uh, but now it's starting to really paint that picture and that side of thing.

So, um, I challenge you to say yes. I challenge you to, to go after that opportunity. And as I said at the very, very start of this one today, I didn't really know where we were gonna go with this particular episode, but I'm gonna be honest, I wanted to just get in front of the microphone because it's been way too long and with a few changes in my own world, I plan to get back into this a little bit more consistently in that side of thing.

So stay tuned and I will speak to you shortly. So, yeah.
