On our i'm looking for a while

3:28

I'm definitely a farm I perform oral

3:31

will move I bought a mile from

3:33

overwork to go faster so I was

3:35

a mormon for is a multi go

3:38

a little my I'm going to go

3:40

I have a little more of like

3:42

a ghost story but I'm not. that

3:44

was what money back home for. This

3:47

is about ten years about fiverr home

3:49

because I was a middle thought the

3:51

time I can't remember what apps whole

3:54

day it was or anything like. that

3:56

but i remember for a fact that it

3:58

was late at night My mom

4:00

usually has a habit of like falling asleep

4:03

on the couch, but she's usually in the

4:05

living room the TV's on. So

4:07

I think it was maybe around 11 due to

4:09

the fact that that's usually when that happens for

4:11

her. I remember getting up to

4:14

go to the bathroom and like

4:16

kind of half asleep not paying

4:18

attention to anything in the bathroom.

4:20

And there's this little tiny window

4:22

in the bathroom. And

4:24

so what I remember is

4:26

hearing tapping noises on that

4:28

window. Which it looks directly

4:31

out onto the porch. It doesn't like look

4:33

out onto a drop or anything. It's

4:35

the front porch. And I remember

4:37

thinking that's kind of weird thinking it might

4:39

have been a bird or something. But

4:41

the tapping was a bit insistent. Like I

4:44

think at first it was like just three

4:46

taps and then like a couple minutes later

4:48

it was a little more like constant

4:51

tap. So something

4:53

possessed me to open the blinds

4:55

on the window. And the

4:58

second I did I remember just

5:00

looking back into these

5:02

bright blue eyes. Like

5:05

they were I couldn't see a

5:07

face or anything. It was just the eyes. And

5:10

they were almost like an unnatural

5:12

blue color. So of course

5:15

I panicked. I backed up. I didn't think

5:17

it's closing it or anything. And I

5:20

remember either being or

5:22

getting the sensation that whatever the

5:24

heck this was turned away. And

5:26

then I remember it distinctly

5:28

talking to almost as

5:31

if there was another person or more than

5:33

one person there with it. It said

5:35

something. I can't unfortunately due to the

5:38

time. I don't remember what it was.

5:41

But after that it like

5:43

turned and went away and that

5:46

was it. Like I shut the blinds.

5:48

I went back to bed. For some

5:50

weird reason that didn't register as like

5:52

weird enough. But then like

5:54

a couple days later I

5:56

think I woke up like maybe an hour before I

5:59

was supposed to get get up because I remember

6:02

looking at my phone at least and seeing

6:04

that it was so early. And

6:06

right before I was about to go to bed, I

6:09

looked over and I happened to see this figure hunched

6:11

over as if they had pulled a chair up to

6:13

the side of my bed and was sitting. This

6:16

one's a little shorter because I just

6:18

remember this figure she was sitting had

6:20

long, long hair tied back in a

6:22

bun. And before

6:24

she could look at me, because obviously she

6:27

was going to, I remember the

6:29

door opening and my mom telling me to

6:31

get up, I was late. I don't

6:33

know if those are correlated, but it's kind

6:35

of weird that that happened within a

6:37

couple days later. So it's

6:39

just a weird freaky thing. I've never

6:41

seen it ever again. But

6:44

I figured that's something to call in

6:46

because, yeah, it's odd. Either

6:49

way, keep doing what you're doing. I love

6:51

to hear every story you bring out. Thank

6:53

you. Thank

6:58

you, caller, for taking the time to call in. That'll

9:05

let's go ahead and get back into

9:07

the action. Next

9:09

up, we venture to my boyhood home of

9:11

Ohio, where Katie is

9:14

ready and waiting with her terrifying

9:16

tale. Hi,

9:19

Derek. My name's Katie. I am from

9:21

and still currently live in Dayton, Ohio.

9:25

I have a ghost story. This took place

9:27

in a suburb of Dayton called West Carrollton,

9:30

and it happened roughly 18 years ago. I

9:32

was around 10 years old. I

9:36

was at my mom's house one

9:38

night, and I was there alone. It was

9:41

just me and our dog. We

9:43

had a pit bull, a keto mix, so

9:45

he was a pretty large dog. He

9:47

was very protective of me in

9:50

particular because I was the youngest in the

9:52

house. All the people that lived in the

9:54

house were me and my mom, my two

9:57

older brothers who were a few years older

9:59

than me. and my mom's

10:01

friend Susie at the time. The

10:03

house was a rectangular

10:05

shape, so when you walk

10:08

into the front door, you walk

10:10

into the living room immediately, and

10:12

the garage had been converted into

10:15

two bedrooms. So

10:17

when you walk into the living room for the

10:19

front door, you look to the right and

10:21

that's my bedroom. There was no wall separating

10:24

the bedroom from the living room, so I

10:26

just had an open wall. And then next

10:28

to that was the entrance to the kitchen.

10:30

The kitchen was long and rectangular. To the

10:32

left at the end was a bathroom, and

10:34

to the right was the entrance to my

10:37

mom's bedroom, and then the exit to

10:39

the backyard. Go back to the living room.

10:41

Straight across from the front door entrance was

10:43

the entrance to the hallway, and that went

10:45

to the left of the house, and there

10:48

was a bedroom in the middle, and then

10:50

on the very end, and then on the

10:52

other side on the very end. My mom's

10:54

friend Susie lived in one of the bedrooms

10:56

on the end, and my older

10:58

brother stayed in the bedroom at the very

11:00

end with his door at the end cap

11:02

of the hallway. One night, as I said,

11:04

I was alone with our dog, and I

11:06

was in my room just playing video games

11:08

on my bed, and I

11:10

remember just seeing out of the corner

11:12

of my eye, you could just see into

11:15

my brother's room at the end of the

11:17

hallway from where I was sitting, and his

11:19

TV happened to be across the room from

11:21

his door. And I remember seeing out of

11:23

the corner of my eye his TV turned

11:25

on. And it was only

11:27

on for a couple seconds. It was just

11:30

on static, and it turned off,

11:32

and I tried to just act

11:34

like it didn't happen. I was scared. I was

11:37

always scared to be home alone. I'm

11:39

afraid of the dark still to this day,

11:41

so I was already scared, and

11:43

it turned off, and then not

11:46

long after, it turned back on. Same

11:48

static station. I'm getting chills right now just

11:50

talking about it. Same static station. This

11:53

time, my dog noticed, and he stood up

11:55

on the bed and

11:57

was looking that direction, as was I.

12:00

and it was on for a little longer the

12:02

second time, and then it turned off again. And

12:05

a couple minutes went by again. I'm

12:07

still pretending it didn't happen. And

12:10

I saw, we saw, me and

12:13

my dog saw it turn on

12:15

a third time. And at this

12:17

point, my dog kind of trotted over

12:19

to the entrance of the hallway and

12:21

was just staring down the hallway. He was

12:23

kind of growling a little bit, but we

12:26

were both just watching this TV. It

12:28

wasn't doing anything. It was just on static. It was on

12:30

for a couple minutes. And then it turned off again. And

12:33

when it turned off, my

12:35

dog turns around and sprints

12:38

through the hallway into the

12:40

kitchen past me as

12:42

if he's chasing something. Turns around, sprints to

12:44

the hallway, runs through the kitchen all the

12:46

way to the back of the kitchen. And

12:49

there is a very large window in the

12:51

back of the kitchen, and

12:53

our dining room table is sitting

12:55

under it. Our dog chases

12:57

something through the living room into

12:59

the kitchen and to the back

13:02

and jumps up onto our dining

13:05

room table. And like I said, he's a

13:07

pretty big dog and is just going nuts,

13:10

barking very viciously, you know, out

13:13

the back window. I

13:15

kind of just like got to the edge

13:17

of my bed and like looked down to

13:19

see him doing this, to see like maybe

13:21

if I could see something he was barking

13:24

at. But I was too petrified to even

13:26

get up off my bed and leave my

13:28

bed. So I stayed there and I called

13:30

my mom and freaked out and she didn't

13:33

really believe me. So I was

13:35

kind of alone in that fear,

13:38

but that ended there for me.

13:41

And not long after, I do

13:43

not remember how much longer after

13:46

my experience, but it wasn't long.

13:48

We really didn't even live in that house for very

13:50

long, not even over a year. Anyways,

13:52

my mom's friend that lived with us came

13:54

and asked me and my older brothers one

13:56

day if their friend Brandon

13:58

had stayed the night. night, the

14:00

night before. And we all told

14:02

her no, you know, he hadn't. And

14:05

so she proceeded to tell us that she

14:07

had gotten up in the middle of the

14:09

night, the night before and had to go

14:11

to the bathroom. So her

14:13

bedroom was at the very end of

14:16

the hallway next to my brothers with

14:18

the TV. And the bathroom was at

14:20

the other end at the entrance to

14:23

the hallway, the far living room wall

14:25

was separating the living room from the

14:27

bathroom. And our couch was against that

14:30

wall right next to the entrance to

14:32

the hallway. And so it's in the middle of

14:34

the night, she said 2 or 3am. She

14:36

walks down to the bathroom at the end

14:38

of the hallway and sees a figure sitting

14:40

on the couch. And he was sitting

14:43

there with his hands on his, like, you know, on

14:45

his lap, hands on the knees, and he had a

14:48

hood up. And he was just sitting there. She

14:50

asked him, you know, hey, Brandon, you know, what

14:52

are you doing? Are you staying the night? Are

14:54

you waiting for somebody? Didn't react or respond to

14:57

her. And so she just shrugged it off went

14:59

to the bathroom. And when she came out, the

15:01

figure was gone. And she just chopped

15:03

it up to it being my

15:05

brother's friend, Brandon, but it wasn't because

15:08

he was not there. Never got any

15:10

history on the house or anything. It wasn't

15:12

a very old house. But yeah, nothing else

15:14

happened to anybody else in that house for

15:17

the short time we lived there. And that's

15:19

it. That's my story. I'm a new listener. And

15:21

I really love the show. Thank you so much

15:23

for all the work you do. I love it.

15:25

Have a good night. Thanks,

15:30

Katie. You know,

15:32

Dayton is one of those cities in Ohio with

15:34

all sorts of history. The

15:36

Wright brothers and several other notable

15:38

inventors originate from the gem city.

15:41

Several famous personalities also hail from

15:43

the Dayton area. Dave

15:46

Chappelle, John Legend, Martin Sheen,

15:48

Rob Lowe, just to name a few.

15:50

And of course,

15:53

Wright Patterson Air Force Base is located

15:55

just outside of town. Rumored

15:58

home to the Roswell Crown. trash victims, ghostly

16:02

activity and all sorts of other

16:04

strange reports. And

16:07

the area is also well known for its

16:09

haunted locations as well. Haunted

16:12

homesteads, theaters full of ghosts,

16:15

a cursed stone tower. And

16:18

this story out of Woodland

16:20

Cemetery courtesy of

16:22

WRGT ABC News 22. Little

16:25

Dayton. But

16:27

if you're looking for a little less fright

16:30

and a little more legend, check out

16:32

Woodland Cemetery in Dayton. Near

16:34

the entrance you will come across the grave

16:37

of little Johnny Morehouse. True story. The

16:39

boy died in 1860 when he was

16:41

just five years old. And Johnny

16:44

Morehouse was down playing with his dog at the

16:46

canal. He fell into the canal and he drowned.

16:48

His dog pulled him out of the canal. And

16:51

since then people from all over the

16:53

world leave toys, trinkets and candy

16:55

on little Johnny's grave soon. The

16:58

dog would come, supposedly come to his grave every

17:00

day and sit by the door so he missed him so much.

17:03

Over the years people claimed to see ghosts.

17:05

The boy and his faithful dog playing

17:07

in the cemetery. And

17:10

that's certainly not the only example of a

17:12

faithful pooch doing something exactly

17:15

like this. Sad

17:18

and touching at the same time. So

17:23

anyway, the point here, Katie, is this. Given

17:26

all the other activity to be reported out

17:28

of the Dayton area, I

17:30

certainly wouldn't be surprised to learn that

17:32

you're home too. Or some sort

17:35

of strange activity. So

17:37

thank you again for sharing it here

17:39

with us. Folks,

18:32

this is Adrian from San Diego.

18:34

I love your show, I

18:36

love the stories, I love the topic. Kind

18:39

of one of those guys who wishes something weird

18:41

and unusual would happen to me and

18:43

doesn't seem like it ever does, but

18:46

I did recall one time something happened.

18:48

She's kind of a light-hearted story, not

18:50

too scary or anything like that, but

18:52

still a little bit creepy. About

18:55

10 years ago, actually more about 11

18:57

years ago, we had an exchange student

18:59

living with us, his name was Veenan,

19:01

he was from China. He was

19:03

doing his senior year of high school in

19:05

San Diego. We were up

19:07

late one night, he was a really cool kid,

19:10

he spoke very good English, and

19:12

we were up late one Saturday night

19:14

just talking. I think we had watched

19:16

a movie and so we were talking

19:18

about weird paranormal

19:20

topics. He was telling us

19:23

ghost stories and legends and

19:25

tales from China. I'm

19:28

Mexican, so we were sharing

19:30

Southwest Mexican stories and legends

19:33

with him. We were just there

19:35

and it was late at night. So

19:37

we're in our living room in our

19:39

home and we have a mantel over

19:41

our fireplace and on the mantel was

19:43

a birthday card that had been given

19:45

to me earlier that year. And

19:49

the card had been there forever, it was one of

19:51

those cards that you open it and

19:54

it plays music. I can't remember what

19:56

song it played. All I know was

19:58

up there, it was positions on

20:00

the mantle probably open at like

20:02

a you know 30-40 degree angle so

20:05

that the car could stand up and

20:07

it just sat on our mantle

20:09

from earlier that year for months. So

20:11

we're talking about these ghost stories and

20:14

tales and legends and it's pretty

20:16

pretty early in the morning late at

20:18

night early in the morning and you

20:21

know there comes this point in the

20:23

conversation where nobody's saying anything it's just

20:26

kind of you know silence we're all

20:28

kind of just reflecting thinking about what

20:30

you know the topics we're talking about and

20:32

all of a sudden out of nowhere the

20:35

card goes off the card starts playing

20:37

and it freaks us out we're

20:39

like all looking out like what the heck and

20:42

lean on the exchange student you know he used

20:44

to have this weird exclamation that he would do

20:46

and he did it he was like oh you

20:48

know you can all scared it he's like what

20:50

did you guys do we're like we didn't do

20:53

anything you know my wife and I look at

20:55

her like how funky is this but anyways

20:57

it really just freaked us out because of

21:00

the topic we're talking about the fact that

21:02

the card never went off as long as

21:04

it was up there since my birthday and

21:07

that evening which was the middle of

21:09

the night talking about this stuff it

21:11

suddenly just goes off in this like

21:13

perfect moment of silence and so

21:15

you know we all kind of laughed about it

21:18

none of us could explain it you know I

21:20

looked at the card open to close it and

21:22

go off and after that you know we put

21:24

the card away anyway like I

21:26

said it's a light-hearted story so it'd

21:29

be a good one to play after a scary story

21:31

to kind of lighten the mood all

21:33

right well hey again I like your show keep

21:35

up doing work have a good evening thanks

21:41

thanks Adrian a

21:43

lot of audio oddities in this episode

21:48

now this isn't paranormal but I get a kick out of

21:50

it I'd seen online

21:53

somewhere where you can buy one

21:55

of these musical cards but

21:57

this one is not meant to be given as a gift but

22:01

rather be told to slowly drive them insane.

22:04

The card is sticky on the back, so

22:06

you can hide it somewhere in an office or

22:09

a bedroom. And when you pull the

22:11

little protective plastic card to activate

22:13

it, from that point

22:15

until the battery dies several months

22:17

later, it will continuously play with

22:20

a sound. The

22:29

card is stuck to the underside of a desk drawer

22:31

or ceiling of a closet. It's

22:33

nearly guaranteed to slowly drive

22:35

the victim insane. Perhaps

22:41

Adrian simply encountered the

22:43

ghostly version of this clever

22:45

prank. Whatever

22:47

the cause, we

22:50

do appreciate the entry. Now

22:54

again, if you guys need that hotline number, it's

22:57

1-888-608-9. 1-888-608-9GHT

23:07

And now folks, this is the last

23:09

stop of the evening. An

23:11

unsettling entry from parts unknown.

23:15

Dutch, come on in here. Round

23:17

this thing out. I

23:48

can't remember how to pronounce it. Monachello?

23:50

I think? Someone from

23:52

Italy called in and you

23:55

mentioned something about a small

23:57

bunk. Well anyway, I turned

23:59

home from... college on

24:01

February 20th, 2020, not

24:03

too long ago, this is the most recent. And

24:06

after exiting my vehicle and

24:08

pulling my backpack from the back seat

24:11

and everything, I turned

24:13

around to see a very

24:16

small guy, a man

24:18

who was very thin,

24:21

almost as thin as a Holocaust victim.

24:23

He could see his bones. I

24:25

remember because he was wearing

24:28

a robe and his robe only covered half

24:30

of his forearm and it looked as if

24:32

he had no muscle in it and

24:34

his skin was brownish like

24:36

he'd been in the sun all day. And

24:39

it was wrinkly and leather-like.

24:42

Anyway, I turned around and he said,

24:44

hello. And you know, I greeted him

24:46

with hello back. I'm kind of

24:48

used to paranormal encounters, I guess you'd say. So

24:51

I wasn't too freaked out. I thought maybe

24:53

he was just a normal dude. However, he

24:55

said, can I have a couple of beads

24:57

in your pocket? So I reached my pocket

24:59

and I had him these beads that I

25:01

had. I'll get to those in a second

25:04

while I had beads in my pocket. And

25:06

he said, that'll do. I

25:08

gave him about four beads and he

25:11

continued to walk off. Now

25:13

his eyes, they were white, like pure

25:15

white, not like in the movies where

25:17

you could see his retina and his

25:19

pupil and everything. And it's just white.

25:21

He's just, it was slicked over white,

25:23

but he did have the red things.

25:26

Now after I gave him the beads and I,

25:28

when I put him in his hand, it is

25:31

very bony and I should

25:33

say, his skin felt very

25:36

leathery. It felt like

25:38

very old leather. Other

25:40

descriptions I can say besides him

25:42

being bony, could see his arm

25:45

bones, his finger bones, very dark

25:47

brown, leathery skin. He had

25:49

a white beard, long white hair, and his hood

25:51

was up. And it looked as

25:53

if like the robe or clothes he was

25:56

wearing was closed at the top, open about

25:58

mid chest with an old. old, silky,

26:01

possibly white shirt. After

26:03

he accepted the beats, he

26:06

said, thank you. That's enough for that'll

26:08

do. I can't remember exactly what he

26:10

said. I was quite fixated on just

26:12

him and his eyes. He walked off.

26:15

After he walked off, I continued

26:17

walking across the street and as

26:19

I continued walking to my apartment,

26:21

I kept looking down where he

26:23

walked and I watched him walk

26:25

almost all the way and he

26:27

never vanished. He just, like a

26:30

normal person, would continue walking. It

26:32

didn't strike me until roughly an

26:35

hour, hour and a half later that how

26:37

would he know I had beats in my

26:39

pocket? I work now

26:41

with teenagers and school-aged

26:43

children on Camp Pendleton

26:46

and earlier that day I was

26:48

making beaded necklaces and beaded bracelets

26:51

and I'm making a special one that

26:53

whenever I see a special bead, whether

26:56

it's plastic or wood, I would stick

26:58

it in my pocket for later. I'm

27:00

making this in my own time. So

27:03

how he knew I had the beats

27:06

struck me as very odd. At

27:08

the time I didn't think of it. I was just like, oh yeah,

27:11

I don't think I mentioned the time. It was about 2310. So quite

27:15

late at night, just got home driving about

27:17

an hour from Cyprus or so, but

27:19

you know, worried about other things.

27:21

I asked for beads. I said,

27:23

oh yeah, yeah, you know, gave it to him.

27:26

But looking into it, I

27:29

feel it's a very odd experience. Get

27:31

back to me with what you think. It

27:33

very much could have been just normal

27:35

guy, elderly, you know, randomly

27:38

asked a stranger for beads, happened

27:40

to have them. However,

27:43

with how I felt during it

27:45

was quite content,

27:48

but the fact that he asked me for

27:50

beads on this one day, I feel

27:53

it very unlikely that it was human.

27:55

Thank you for hopefully choosing

27:57

my story for your podcast. I'm

28:00

a little slurred or anything. It's

28:02

about once again 2318 quite late

28:04

great job on the podcast I've

28:06

been just listening to it for

28:08

the past couple days. I

28:10

look forward to catching up and hopefully

28:12

hearing my story Have a good night.

28:14

Thank you. I Told

28:18

you the story was unsettling Thank

28:21

you Dutch What

28:25

do you guys think would

28:27

you Was

28:31

this a simple misunderstanding? Some

28:34

sort of coincidence or some

28:36

sort of encounter with a much higher meaning Whatever

28:39

may be behind this mystery We

28:42

thank you Dutch for allowing us to

28:44

experience it with you Thank

28:48

you again for calling in And

29:01

now please enjoy the following Beyond episode

29:03

that originally aired on December 14th Season

29:08

16 episode 9 beginning

29:11

with Tom century out

29:14

of the East state of Texas Hey

29:19

Derek, this is Tom in

29:21

San Antonio, Texas Just

29:23

finished your most recent Patreon

29:26

episode with the kind of reverse

29:28

Doppelganger story and you

29:31

said at the end of it, you

29:33

know, it kind of demystifies the doppelganger

29:35

when you realize it's just someone else's

29:37

Mistake or their inability to recognize someone

29:40

well, I have a little bit different take on

29:42

that story this happened in

29:47

1984 so I had just graduated

29:49

high school. I think back in 1984 We

29:53

looked like the doofy kids we were

29:55

at 18 years old.

29:57

I think I see kids today that know

30:00

they dress better, they look more mature.

30:03

I didn't. Certainly I didn't. I

30:06

took a job with a

30:08

florist delivering flowers to hospitals

30:10

and funeral homes. And

30:12

my typical attire for the day in

30:14

1984, I had long straight hair parted

30:17

down the middle. I think, you know,

30:19

age rock band kind of look. Almost

30:22

always wearing the baseball cut t-shirt

30:24

that was a concert t-shirt, Judas

30:27

Priest, scorpions, you know, to date

30:30

it, jeans and tennis shoes. Definitely

30:32

not business attire. So

30:35

anyway, I'm delivering to this one downtown

30:37

hospital and I had gotten the flowers

30:39

up to the room and I'm going

30:41

across the lobby and I hear, Dr.

30:45

Max, Dr. Max,

30:48

Dr. Max, and pretty

30:50

soon a hand touches me on the arm

30:52

and I jump and I turn around and

30:54

here's a nurse or some

30:56

kind of hospital employee, scrubs carrying

30:59

a clipboard. And you

31:01

know, it's beginning to dawn on

31:03

me that somehow she has mistaken

31:05

me for the worst dressed doctor

31:07

ever if this Dr. Max looks

31:10

anything like I do. And

31:12

I expect if I turn around her to

31:14

say something like, oh God, I'm sorry, wrong

31:16

person or whatever. But no, I'm

31:18

standing face to face with this person, you

31:20

know, two feet apart and she's saying, Dr.

31:22

Max, what are we going to do about

31:25

the patient? And you know, we're in 323

31:27

telling me way more medical information

31:29

than I should know about someone,

31:31

especially considering all I do is

31:33

deliver flowers. And I finally

31:36

have to stop her like mid conversation and

31:38

say, I'm not Dr. Max. And

31:40

the look on her face was incredulous.

31:45

Like stop joking with me

31:47

or what's your problem today.

31:50

And then she just walked off. You

31:52

know, again, this is 1984. This is

31:54

long before internet Google where I

31:56

could go look up Dr. Max.

32:00

with this girl that I could

32:02

be possibly confused with a physician.

32:05

But there's a little bit more to it. Later

32:08

that summer, maybe about

32:10

five weeks later, same

32:13

exact thing happens, but with

32:15

a completely different individual. Now

32:18

it's a male in scrubs. I don't know

32:20

again, nurse, I don't know what his job

32:22

was. Same sort of thing,

32:24

you know, Dr. Max, and I turn around

32:27

and he, Hey, you know, what about this

32:29

blankety blank blank blank? And I look

32:31

at him, I go, I'm not Dr. Max.

32:35

In his first look with a smile, like, Oh,

32:38

you're always such a jokester, Dr. Max. Then

32:41

that same incredulous look came

32:43

over his face. And

32:46

before I could even say another thing, he just like walks

32:48

down a hallway. So the

32:51

second time that's happened, I almost wanted

32:53

to chase him down and say, what

32:55

is this Dr. Max look like? Or,

32:57

you know, find me, Dr. Max. I

32:59

have to see why I keep being

33:01

confused for this individual and my typically

33:04

street hoodlum attire for the eighties. You

33:06

know, I can't believe I could be

33:09

mistaken for being older than I was

33:11

for being a professional and

33:13

being mistaken for the same guy

33:15

twice in one hospital. So

33:18

maybe I was this doctor's

33:20

doppelganger. Thanks a lot,

33:22

Derek. Take care. We

33:25

always appreciate another view here, Tom. Thank

33:28

you again for the submission and

33:31

good on you for being honest with those people. Just

33:35

imagine if you made up some sort of

33:37

medical advice, advice that

33:39

could have ended in someone's death. That's

33:43

one of those rare instances where a joke

33:45

can literally kill. And

33:49

it is strange. The two separate people would confuse

33:51

Tom with a doctor. Given

33:54

the description of his appearance. And

33:58

this was all well before Duke. So

34:03

Tom, I'm gonna leave you with this advice. Go

34:06

see if you can find Dr. Max today. Maybe

34:09

you each aged similarly and

34:11

the resemblance still stands. Or

34:14

at the very least you can find an older snapshot

34:16

online somewhere that acts

34:18

as evidence to your amazing tale. And

34:22

of course, we thank you again for

34:24

sharing it. And

34:28

now a good evening, Monster Squad.

34:31

Welcome back to another installment. I've

34:34

set aside a number of fear-inducing entries to share

34:36

with you guys this evening, here

34:38

in the bonus time. But before

34:41

we start, I've caught some flack lately about

34:43

the length of the Beyond episodes. So

34:46

I'm upping my game here, bringing

34:49

it a little more to the table

34:51

tonight. But

34:54

that doesn't mean more talking for me. It

34:57

means more stories. Like

34:59

this early little entry from an

35:01

anonymous source in Bart's unknown. Hi

35:05

Derek. I would like to remain anonymous

35:07

just to protect the identity of some

35:10

of the people involved in this story.

35:12

My story is about a haunted house

35:15

I lived in in my early twenties.

35:18

Somewhere in central Alberta, we'll say

35:20

that, it was a

35:22

cute little house. I'd been living

35:24

in a very kind of cramped,

35:26

dark apartment in town. And

35:29

I wasn't happy there. A friend

35:31

of mine suggested a neighbor up the road

35:33

from her had this little house that he

35:35

wanted to rent out. So I

35:37

went and looked at it. I immediately fell in

35:39

love with the place. It was so cute. It

35:42

was built in the 1930s by my landlord's

35:44

father. And

35:48

he apparently was a very kind

35:50

hearted, very gentle, very soft

35:52

spoken man. And everybody loved him.

35:54

And now his son owned the

35:56

property and he didn't live there.

36:00

rented it out. It had

36:02

the old-fashioned floral wallpaper on it, and

36:04

most people would have just like that.

36:06

I thought it added to the charm

36:08

of the house. It felt like

36:10

I was living in a little cottage

36:12

in the woods, but it wasn't long living

36:14

there until I discovered that it was

36:16

haunted. It never scared

36:18

me. My friend who lived up the

36:21

road said that she thought it was haunted too. She

36:23

had heard that it was haunted by a

36:25

landlord's father because he built the place himself,

36:27

and he loved it there so much. Things

36:30

would happen like turning

36:33

on by themselves. I would

36:35

hear footsteps in the kitchen while I

36:37

was in the living room, things like

36:39

that. The first actual sighting of

36:41

the ghost was actually experienced by

36:44

my mother. She came up

36:46

to visit me, and of course it was

36:48

only a little one-bedroom house. In

36:50

years prior, the second bedroom had been

36:53

converted into a little bathroom. So I

36:55

was asleep in the bedroom,

36:57

and my mother was asleep on my couch in

36:59

the living room. She said

37:02

she heard stomping around in the

37:04

kitchen, and so she opened

37:06

her eyes, and she saw a man

37:08

in the kitchen in big rubber boots and

37:11

a big black winter coat,

37:14

and he turned and he looked at her. She

37:17

said it didn't scare her at all.

37:20

It just kind of startled her, and

37:22

she sat up and went, what the hell?

37:25

And then all of a sudden she said

37:27

she saw this man just disappear into thin

37:29

air. So then my mother

37:31

was convinced that yes, this place was

37:33

definitely haunted. I shared

37:36

that experience with my friend who recommended

37:38

I rent the place, and she said

37:40

that that's how my landlord's

37:42

dad would go out and feed his cattle.

37:45

He'd be wearing giant big rubber boots and

37:47

a big bulky black winter coat. So

37:50

maybe he was just checking out. I had

37:52

someone new in the house who was just

37:54

checking on things to make sure that everything

37:56

was okay. And things went on like

37:58

that. I lived in that house. house for about a year

38:01

and a half. I was never frightened

38:03

by the spirit. In fact, I

38:05

was kind of comforted knowing that someone was

38:07

there looking out for me. But

38:10

when I took a different job and

38:12

I had to move slightly farther away, I

38:15

didn't want to leave the house. I loved

38:17

living there so much. It was just so

38:19

cute and comfortable and cozy. But in order

38:21

for me to take this other job, I

38:23

had to relocate. So I found a

38:25

new place to rent and I was moving

38:27

out. And actually, I had friends

38:30

that helped move all my stuff out

38:32

into their truck. And I just

38:35

drove a little car at the time. And so

38:37

we were all loaded up. They were ready to

38:39

go to my new place. And I said, Okay,

38:41

you guys go ahead. I'm going to take one

38:43

more walk around, make sure I didn't forget anything,

38:46

make sure everything's clean. So I

38:48

did that, but then the door wouldn't

38:51

open. The door that was previously

38:53

unlocked and actually sitting there open

38:55

was shut and locked. And

38:57

I could not unlock it. The door just

38:59

would not unlock like it was stuck. And

39:02

I started to become very frustrated and

39:05

very upset. Hardly I got

39:07

the door open and I had the

39:09

door knob in my hand. And it

39:11

was only open about a foot. And

39:13

then it was like someone came along

39:15

and just slammed it shut again. And

39:18

it was locked again. So I

39:20

became scared. And I knew

39:22

that it was this ghost. He didn't want me to

39:24

leave. I guess he liked

39:26

living with me because I, you know, respected

39:28

the home and loved it so much. But

39:31

then here I am alone in this

39:34

empty house with this ghost that didn't

39:36

want me to leave. And he was

39:38

holding the door shut. And I became

39:40

very upset. I started crying. I

39:43

started pleading with him like, please just let

39:45

me go. I don't want to leave. I

39:48

still love this house, but I have to go.

39:50

I've got a new place. I've

39:52

got a new job. Please stop it

39:54

and let me out. You're scaring me. And

39:56

as I was crying, I

39:58

watched the door. and the door, I

40:00

hadn't touched it, no one else was around, and

40:04

I saw the doorknob turn, and

40:06

the door just popped open on its own as

40:08

if he was saying, okay, you can go. So

40:12

I whipped that door open and ran out of

40:14

that house, you know, and I turned around

40:16

and locked it, and I left the keys for

40:19

my landlord, and that

40:21

was the only time that he, the ghost,

40:24

actually scared me, and

40:26

I don't think he intended to scare me.

40:28

I think he was trying to send me a message of

40:30

please don't leave, I don't want you to leave, but

40:33

at the time it really did scare me.

40:35

That was the only time he ever scared

40:37

me. Looking back, you know,

40:39

there were a lot of instances of

40:41

lights turning on. My mother was the

40:44

only person to actually ever see him.

40:47

I would catch things out of the corner

40:49

of my eye. I would see someone walking

40:51

by a doorway, or, you know, something like

40:53

that, but I never full-on saw him. So

40:56

that was my interesting little story.

40:59

I have other encounters that I will call

41:01

back, and I won't be anonymous. I just,

41:03

I want to be anonymous to protect the

41:05

identity of my mom and my friends who

41:07

recommended that I live in this house. Thank

41:10

you for your podcast and giving us all a

41:13

place to share our experiences and stories

41:15

without feeling judged. Have a

41:18

great day. Sounds

41:21

like a decent amount of activity, caller.

41:25

Thank you for the report. Now,

41:29

moving objects and strange sounds are one thing, but

41:32

slamming doors and a shadowy man

41:34

in the kitchen is just

41:36

too much. There

41:38

is something reassuring, however, about her wanting to

41:41

stay in the apartment instead

41:43

of moving away. That

41:45

tells me that you can get comfortable with this

41:47

sort of activity. The

41:49

next logical question would be, just

41:52

how many people would want to get comfortable?

41:56

That is the true question. Thanks

41:59

again. color for taking the time to

42:02

ring in. Now

42:06

folks don't forget if you have a call you would like

42:08

to share. Call the hotline at 1-888-608-9. That's

42:13

N-I-G-H-T. Now,

42:17

next up we revisit a repeat offender.

42:21

Frank from New York. Welcome

42:23

back to the show. Hey

42:26

Derek this is Frank from Long Island.

42:28

I just got done listening to your

42:30

season 14 episode 13. And

42:33

there's a guy named James, I believe he's

42:35

from Maine, called in about seeing a grim

42:38

reaper. Now, second

42:41

I heard that I remember another buddy

42:43

of mine named James had a similar

42:45

experience. Now James is also a

42:47

very skeptic when it comes to this stuff. He

42:49

doesn't believe in it but about

42:51

10 years ago, maybe more

42:53

than that, I wasn't

42:55

there at the moment, I wasn't able to make it but

42:57

a bunch of me and my friends go to one of

42:59

my friend's house in upstate New York in

43:02

Greene County. And

43:05

when he came back I was like oh so how was

43:07

the trip? And I was like you guys have a good

43:09

time and everything's like yeah it was good but I saw

43:11

some weird crap on the way over there.

43:13

I'm like oh what'd you see? Like dude

43:15

I saw a grim reaper. The

43:18

first thing that came out of my mouth was get the f

43:20

out of here. Like there's no way like come on dude. Like

43:23

nah man it was so weird. Like guy

43:25

had a hood on at the

43:27

site and everything. I'm like dude

43:30

I forget what time of year it was because

43:32

I did reiterate the story to him a few

43:35

years later and even not too long ago to

43:37

see if he was still telling the same story.

43:40

And he's like yeah man that crap was weird.

43:42

I was like are you sure it wasn't around

43:44

Halloween time? Like maybe some guy playing a prank.

43:46

Like nah I was there in I believe it

43:49

was summertime. And he said

43:51

that dude was just standing in front of somebody's

43:53

property by a mailbox. And

43:55

I just saw him like did anybody else see

43:58

this thing? I'd always like,

44:00

nah, I'm the only one that saw it. And I'd

44:03

say, hey look, there's some guy in a Grim Reaper

44:05

outfit or whatever to help. And

44:08

he said it was just really weird. Now, knowing

44:10

him, he's not gonna call in, call it in,

44:13

because again, he doesn't really believe in this stuff.

44:16

And I probably asked him to

44:18

call them before, and he's like, nah, and I

44:20

thought, I'm just gonna do him the favor and

44:22

call in myself. But when

44:25

I heard that guy James' story, I was like,

44:27

nah, that's kinda hard. Something's

44:29

gonna happen to my friend. So, I don't

44:32

know, maybe it could be some guy playing a

44:34

prank or something, maybe some weird coincidence or mind

44:37

playing tricks on him. But I always

44:40

thought it was kinda weird as well.

44:42

But hopefully you can use it, Derek.

44:45

And as always, I enjoy the show a lot.

44:48

Have a great one. Thank

44:50

you, Frank. I

44:52

may have shared part of this on an episode

44:55

way back, but this encounter reminds me of

44:57

this story. Back

45:00

in 2014, a man dressed as some sort of grim

45:02

reaper terrorized an Albuquerque Highway

45:05

Cemetery. Here's

45:08

the news footage. The

45:11

eve of the supermoon, eyes of

45:13

passerby's were drawn to a dark

45:15

figure looming over the San Jose

45:18

del Rosario Cemetery on Gibson by

45:20

I-25. Everybody was

45:22

freaked out, everybody wanted to know what

45:24

it was. Michelle Gonzalez thought a crash

45:26

caused the backup. But

45:28

when she got out of her car, she

45:31

snapped this photo. I actually

45:33

was gonna try and walk

45:35

up and see what

45:37

it was. And some guy saw me and he told

45:39

me that it probably wasn't the best thing to go

45:41

up there. Cause you never know.

45:44

The tall figure cloaked in black was

45:46

holding a bouquet of flowers. More

45:50

pictures from that night popped up on

45:52

the inhabitants of Burkay Facebook page. The

45:54

image has spread quickly and hundreds

45:56

of people are commenting. I just

45:58

wanna know why. What was he

46:00

doing? One Facebooker says the person did

46:03

more than raise some eyebrows, but caused

46:05

a panic. Some are cracking

46:07

jokes, like, I want Darth Vader at

46:09

my funeral. One guy said maybe it's

46:11

seriously the angel of death. People

46:14

were saying some weird stuff, but I mean, if you were,

46:16

you would have seen it, you would have, what

46:18

the heck is that, too? Gonzalez says

46:21

drivers stopped along the on-ramp. Some even

46:23

stopped on the interstate to get a

46:25

closer look. It caused a lot of

46:27

attention. It could have caused

46:29

an accident. Somebody could

46:31

have gotten hurt. Witnesses say Albuquerque

46:34

firefighters and police officers responded, but

46:36

APD has not confirmed they were

46:38

there. So what he was doing and

46:41

why, this has to be the weirdest

46:43

thing I've seen, may only be known

46:45

to the person underneath the cloak. Ooh,

46:48

that's super creepy. Especially when

46:50

you see the images. It's

46:53

an old west-looking cemetery. A

46:56

small white picket fence and white

46:58

crosses cover the hillside where this

47:00

creeper is hanging out.

47:03

And from what I understand, this guy popped

47:05

up regularly. He was

47:07

there so often that the local news managed

47:10

to get an exclusive interview with

47:12

whomever or whatever this

47:14

is. Well, Crystal,

47:16

he calls himself the Light Wanderer, traveling

47:18

to that southwest Albuquerque cemetery to pray

47:21

for the dead. He says he's also

47:23

there to spread a message. Go

47:25

ahead and take a listen. The

47:27

weight of time weighs heavy on our souls. In

47:31

a deep and somewhat dark voice, this

47:33

cloaked figure, some call the Grim Reaper,

47:35

back at an Albuquerque cemetery. Again, waving

47:37

his arms, some had thought could be

47:39

some sort of ritual. But

47:41

he says it's not. There is

47:43

a place where sleep is still

47:46

in the dreamer's dream. And

47:48

basically a weight. He tells

47:50

us he's out here to pray. Prayer

47:52

has people pulling off the interstate to

47:54

get a closer look. The Light Wanderer,

47:57

as he calls himself, says people shouldn't

47:59

fear him. There's nothing to be afraid

48:01

of except those that are, that seek to

48:03

cause harm, pain,

48:06

destruction. He warns of

48:08

terrorism on the horizon and in the United

48:10

States. The man who would only describe himself

48:12

as a young Christian says he was moved

48:14

to be at the cemetery. There just seemed

48:16

to be a call, something,

48:20

an inner voice, so to say.

48:22

Ben, our photographer asking this question.

48:25

Can we see your face? The

48:27

message isn't about me. Now

48:29

both of those clips come courtesy of KRQE. News

48:33

13 out of Albuquerque. And

48:36

me thinks the light wanderer needs

48:39

to count his message a bit.

48:41

It's kind of all over the place. Just

48:44

a suggestion. I'm not telling anyone

48:46

how to run their business. And

48:51

I'm not actually sure where this mystery goes from

48:53

there. I decided to take

48:55

no further. Because some

48:58

mysteries simply don't need to be

49:00

solved. And

49:02

I'd prefer to leave that one right where

49:04

it is. But

49:07

anyway, Frank, you might be right. Maybe

49:09

it was someone out there living on a

49:11

fantasy or fishing for

49:14

attention. Either way,

49:16

I'm sure it would be unsettling to

49:18

see on a dark country route, whether

49:20

it's a man in an outfit or

49:23

to have itself. Thank

49:26

you again for sharing your battle story.

49:31

Now next up is another unnamed smitter.

49:34

This time, from the Wisconsin-Minnesota

49:37

border. Hi

49:39

Derek and monsters among us fans. I'm

49:41

calling in from the Wisconsin-Minnesota border,

49:44

and my story actually takes place

49:46

in Minnesota. It

49:48

actually happened earlier this evening. I

49:50

was driving home from work, and

49:52

I drive through an area of

49:54

the country where there's a lot

49:56

of bluffs, there's not a lot

49:58

of flat ground. and I

50:01

actually drive right down past Mississippi River. And

50:03

as I was driving home I typically drive

50:06

through a town so there's usually a lot

50:08

of lights and things like that. And

50:10

I noticed up in the sky there were two

50:13

dots of light. And at first

50:15

I kind of thought they were, you know,

50:17

stars but they didn't have the

50:20

same light reflection

50:22

that stars normally do. Normally

50:25

for me stars are usually

50:27

pretty compact. They don't have a lot of

50:29

like light flare like headlights or straight ramps

50:31

do. And so I thought that was kind

50:34

of odd. And then as I kind of

50:36

got closer I noticed that they were a

50:38

lot closer than stars should be. Now

50:41

like I said this is an area that has

50:43

a lot of bluffs and the road that I

50:45

was on goes kind of underneath one of the

50:47

bluffs. And a lot of times the houses up

50:49

there you can kind of see some of the

50:51

lights. But this definitely wasn't that.

50:54

It was out over the roadway out

50:56

in open air. And I

50:59

noticed as I was looking

51:01

at it that it actually had kind of

51:03

a weird outline behind it. Like

51:06

it was something invisible or trying to

51:08

pretend to be sky and it wasn't

51:10

quite getting it from the angle that

51:12

I was at. But the closer I

51:15

got the more it seemed to match the

51:17

sky. And I thought that

51:19

was a little bit odd. It

51:21

kind of looked like if you were standing

51:23

under it and looking straight up you wouldn't

51:25

be able to see the outline. But at

51:27

a distance and from an angle you kind

51:29

of could. And the other

51:32

strange thing is that these were perfectly

51:34

stationary. It wasn't moving like it was

51:36

a low flying plane. I actually

51:39

drive really close to the airport right

51:41

past it. And originally I

51:43

thought it might be oh a plane

51:45

or a helicopter. But it was sitting

51:47

still and there was nothing

51:49

else on it. So I don't know what

51:51

it was. I thought it was kind

51:53

of weird. Maybe you or the

51:55

rest of the Monsters Among Us fans have

51:57

an idea of what it might be. But

52:00

from right now it's some sort of

52:02

UAP. Thanks Derek. Bye.

52:07

Thank you, caller. You

52:10

know, one of the craziest UFO experiences

52:12

out there occurred in the state

52:14

of Minnesota. The

52:17

1979 story of a police officer

52:19

that encountered a strange light in the middle

52:21

of the route. A

52:24

light that not only damaged his patrol car, but

52:27

knocked him unconscious for a number of

52:29

minutes. Perhaps

52:31

you remember the story of

52:34

Deputy Val Johnson. It

52:39

was along a rural highway on August 27, 1979 in the

52:41

middle of the night. The

52:45

Marshall County deputy, Val Johnson, was alone on

52:47

patrol. As he explained it in the news

52:49

reports, what was there all sudden was here.

52:51

So the light just shot at him and

52:53

it, you know, like engulfed his car in

52:55

light. And then

52:57

of course the windshield is broken

53:00

something you can see where it hit.

53:02

Herb Morstead was a fellow deputy at

53:04

the time, at a loss to explain

53:06

the antennas warped in different directions. The

53:08

broken headlight and the dented hood.

53:10

Whatever happened, there was evidence. The

53:12

dashboard clock stopped for 14 minutes,

53:14

as did Deputy Johnson's watch before

53:16

starting up again. You can see

53:18

that it wasn't Val Johnson's

53:20

head, for example, that hit there because

53:22

it's in the wrong, wrong place. Too

53:24

low. Yep. Way too low. Deputy Johnson

53:27

was treated for welder type burns to

53:29

his eyes. This didn't seem to be

53:31

any airplane, not way faster than something

53:33

like that. His supervisor at the time

53:35

was Sheriff Dennis Brecky. We do believe

53:38

that our deputy had an encounter with

53:40

something that we haven't been able to explain

53:42

yet on this date. And there's a lot

53:44

of interest because of that. Now

53:47

that clip courtesy of WCCO,

53:49

CBS, Minnesota. And

53:53

last I heard, the squad car is

53:55

still on display at the Marshall County

53:57

Historical Society. Up there in

53:59

Minnesota. One

54:02

of these days I'll have to make my way up there and

54:04

see it. Maybe

54:07

you should as well. Or

54:10

maybe we should take Anya's advice and go

54:13

sooner than later. But

54:16

before we duck out of here, while brushing up

54:18

on the Val Johnson encounter, I

54:21

stumbled upon a recording of the

54:23

actual radio communication that occurred

54:25

the evening Deputy Johnson had his

54:27

experience. The

54:29

following was radioed in by him mere

54:32

moments after he woke up. We're

54:35

almost having a, what is your condition? I

54:38

don't know. Something

54:40

just hit my car. I

54:43

don't know. I'll explain it. Straight.

54:47

Are you, uh, what's your condition? Are you okay?

54:51

Something attacked my car. I

54:54

heard the vase breaking and the

54:56

rocks, the brakes locked up. I

55:00

don't know if they're there. I think we're

55:02

all getting a little bit of a process, you and them, and we're

55:04

on the way. That

55:06

sounds like a confused and disoriented man

55:09

to me. But

55:11

I can't say that it was aliens. But

55:14

I can say that something unusual

55:16

took place. Maybe

55:20

that's just how they do things. Up

55:23

in Minnesota. Thank

55:26

you again caller for inspiring us to revisit

55:28

that case. I covered

55:30

Val's story for the first time back on season

55:32

13, episode 17. If

55:35

you'd like to check that out. Well

55:40

folks, that's gonna do it for this episode. I

55:43

wanna thank you for sticking around for this

55:45

bonus content. And I wanna thank

55:47

you for keeping it spooky. But

55:49

above all, I wanna thank you for

55:51

all of the support. I'll

55:54

catch you guys next week for the Christmas

55:56

special. But until then,

55:58

keep it spooky. Good night.

56:40

Well you know it's been a while since I had a

56:42

secret entry on this end of the program, so

56:45

I figured tonight was the night to revisit

56:47

that tradition. From

56:49

the state of Texas, please

56:52

welcome Eli to the Digital

56:54

Airways. Hey

56:57

Derek, it's Eli again. Calling

56:59

for a creepy woods sighting.

57:03

I used to do basically like

57:05

survival instructing if you will, where

57:07

I would take small groups into the woods

57:10

and teach them how to build fires and

57:12

all that kind of fair girls kind of stuff except for

57:15

eating fly fish and whatnot. Well

57:18

one day I was out there with a buddy of

57:20

mine and we had a group of

57:22

about five others with us. We've

57:25

been to the area hundreds of

57:27

times and we

57:29

had guns with us because it's known

57:31

that there is sometimes cougars and other

57:33

large creatures out there hogs and other

57:35

stuff like that that can do a

57:37

lot of damage. So he and I

57:39

each had our full 45 revolvers and

57:41

each one of us had a rifle.

57:45

Well that night I

57:47

had just gotten down in my tent, my

57:49

buddy was taking the first watch and

57:51

I hear a blood curdling

57:54

scream from some woman so

57:57

I thought it was one of the girls in our camp. We had

57:59

two girls and three guys. So I go

58:01

running out of my tent trying to put

58:03

my medical kit thinking you know somebody got

58:05

58:17

I Proceed to ask him.

58:19

What was that? He said I don't know but

58:21

it came from down the ridge so

58:23

I Go to heading down

58:26

the ridge one of the other guys from the

58:28

58:30

ridge There's a little stream down there and we're

58:32

walking down the stream mind

58:35

I immediately being into the paranormal. Thank

58:46

La Llorona and Stop

58:49

the guy next to me because it doesn't

58:52

58:56

as we slowly start to back up the

58:59

figure starts to turn and before

59:01

she turns completely around I hear

59:03

another blood-curdling scream coming from her I

59:07

Bolted the guy next to me.

59:10

I don't even know where he went, but when

59:12

I got back to the campsite He was tucked

59:14

underneath and his sleeping bag shaking

59:17

Needless to say we tried to pack everybody

59:19

up and marched through the woods

59:22
