Cecilia Azcarate is a creative director at Spotify and a bike lover. Three years ago, while at agency Sid Lee NYC, she worked on a simple, inventive and satisfying project for an app. It involved music, the architecture of New York and cycling. The idea was called the Williamsburg Bridge Radio, a streaming app that only works on the Williamsburg Bridge in Brooklyn. It plays one hype track going up the bridge and one chill track going down, all with music curated by record label UNO NYC.
This simple but clever concept caught peoples’ hearts and the media’s attention and made cycling a little bit easier and more fun in New York. We talked to Cecilia about the idea behind the app, riding bikes in NYC and her relationship with cycling. The Williamsburg Bridge Radio is the first in a series of Movement episodes where we’ll be exploring creative ideas from all over the world born to improve cycling and life in cities.
