Welcome to our second

0:09

special of season five of Multi

0:12

Story Edinburgh. In our recent

0:12

series, I've been discussing

0:16

with our guests their favorite

0:16

place and Edinburgh. So what

0:20

I've done is I've taken those

0:20

conversations and compiled them

0:23

all into one special episode for

0:23

you so you can sit back and

0:27

relax as we talk about our

0:27

favourite places in Edinburgh.

0:30

At the end. I'll even give you

0:30

my favourite place in Edinburgh.

0:34

We did a part one of this

0:34

special: Oh, the Places You'll

0:38

Go featuring other seasons of

0:38

Multi Story Edinburgh

0:41

participants, and this is part

0:41

two featuring our season five

0:44

cast. But before we do that, I

0:44

will remind you first that Multi

Story Edinburgh is not the only

0:48

1:13

advice, or you can discover

1:17

1:17

you can join. Please enjoy the

1:20

episode. This is Multi Story

1:20

Edinburgh: Oh, the Places You'll

1:24

Go Part Two.

1:39

There's just so many places

1:39

I love in Edinburgh. I think my

1:44

favourite place would be

1:44

Arthur's Seat. Yeah, and

1:49

probably get picked up at the

1:49

top maybe a helicopter yeah

1:54

helicopter ride? Yeah, that'd be

1:54

cool. Yeah, the reason is we

2:00

lived in this really nice flat

2:00

last year and it was like right

2:03

next to Arthur's Seat and we had

2:03

like a nice view from the living

2:07

room and actually can still see

2:07

Arthur's Seat from my car and

2:10

flat which is nice as well. So I

2:10

feel like it's just been always

2:14

in my uni life because you know

2:14

in first year, freshers week you

2:19

claim up Arthur's seat.

2:20

Absolutely. Everybody

2:20

does it.

2:23

Everybody does yeah, I did

2:23

that this year as well because I

2:26

was part of a society and we did

2:26

like a Arthur's Seat walk so I

2:30

think it's like a nice way to

2:30

start your university the year

2:34

even if after first year? I

2:34

don't know it's a good climb.

2:38

This... it's not like,

2:38

it's not saying but the thing

2:41

you're meant to do. You climb

2:41

Arthur's Seat in first year as

2:44

one of the first things you do.

2:44

But you're not allowed in the

2:46

castle until after you've

2:46

graduated.

2:49

Oh, after you graduated, I

2:49

thought it was like you couldn't

2:52

go on your first year.

2:53

This is just first year.

2:53

Can I go to the castle now?

2:55

Yeah probably.

2:57

I thought I thought it

2:57

was after graduation.

3:00

Interesting. Yeah...

3:00

I don't know.

3:02

Oh for sure.

3:03

I wonder where we can find out. I... Arthur's Seat, I've not

3:05

climbed that in ages really.

3:10

Because you have all the energy

3:10

in first year to do it and then

3:13

you get to, to honours yours and

3:13

you're like, oh, that's too

3:16

high. I can't do that.

3:17

Yeah, that's the thing. So

3:17

like I say it's my favorite

3:20

place but I don't climb up it

3:20

often. I will mostly just like,

3:24

view it. Yeah, maybe go up like

3:24

the crags because that's less

3:28

Yeah, and and then you can still

3:28

have like similar view.

3:32

The last time I was

3:32

properly up Arthur's Seat... I

3:35

did a walk last year but like

3:35

actually experiencing it was

3:40

when it snowed it really heavily

3:40

snowed. And we went sledding

3:45

down Arthur's Seat.

3:47

That seems so fun.

3:48

I have never had so much

3:48

fun going because you know,

3:53

there's like the backs the back

3:53

way that you walk up that's a

3:57

bit less steep. I went from the

3:57

top of that all the way down to

4:01

the road.

4:04

I'm actually jealous.

4:07

I was, It was just you

4:07

know classic student life, I was

4:10

on... I was on a black bag, I

4:10

wasn't on an actual sledge but

4:18

because, because you're on that

4:18

black bag, I could literally go

4:22

from the top, control myself all

4:22

the way down to the bottom.

4:27

Yes was suppose yeah, the

4:27

cushion of the snow but was it

4:31

painful?

4:31

Not really because the

4:31

snow was that thick that it

4:35

wasn't actually like, you know,

4:35

heading into me or anything and

4:39

we weren't at the rocky part it

4:39

was all grass. So it was, it was

4:44

totally fine. There is one bit

4:44

because it kind of like curves

4:46

round that there's this little

4:46

jump and that was a, that was a

4:50

little bit sore - so you go up

4:50

in the air and then you whack

4:52

back onto the ground. Sledgin on

4:52

Arthur's Seat is one of the best

5:01

times I've had at uni.

5:02

Yeah. I didn't have that

5:02

kind of experience.

5:05

But if it snows and

5:05

you're in Edinburgh, I would

5:10

recommend it. However, you're

5:10

probably going to be surrounded

5:12

by people who are now 18. And we

5:12

are not 18 anymore. Yeah.

5:17

Yes, exactly. I might break

5:17

a back.

5:20

Yeah, Arthur's Seat is

5:20

lovely. The view from the top it

5:25

never really gets old.

5:26

I mean, yeah, it was kind

5:26

of a shame the St. James Center

5:29

was built because it kind of

5:29

comes into the skyline but I

5:34

won't talk about it.

5:36

Yeah, well, you have

5:36

finished up on Arthur's Seat and

5:42

we're gonna get you helicopter

5:42

down because going down from

5:46

Arthur's Seat is a bit of a

5:46

deathtrap if it's slippy or

5:48

maybe sledging down, slides down

5:48

perfect. It's gonna be snowing,

5:52

and it's gonna be snowing.

5:52

Doesn't matter that is welcome

5:54

week in September. Yeah, it's

5:54

gonna be snowing, you're gonna

5:57

sledge down. And it's gonna be

5:57

fantastic.

6:02

What day of the week is it? Can it can it be in a Tuesday,

6:04

it can be any day you want.

6:06

Cool, because I'm going

6:06

to the dog house, which... and

6:08

they have a jam on Tuesday

6:08

nights. I mean, if you've ever

6:10

been to dog house, it's a very

6:10

cool bar has lots of stuffed

6:14

things hanging from the ceiling.

6:14

And it's very eclectic, very

6:17

psychedelic. Just a good vibe

6:17

students as well. And on Tuesday

6:21

nights, they have this jam,

6:21

where you can kind of go along,

6:23

sign up, I'll tell them I'm

6:23

playing piano, they've got a

6:26

piano set up. And then they'll

6:26

say, write phrase on piano. I'm

6:29

not on sax, some random drummer

6:29

that I've never met. And then

6:32

another guitarist, I've never

6:32

met, and you just like, chat

6:35

about the song you want to play,

6:35

and you discuss chords, and you

6:38

go for it. And it's terrible

6:38

most of the time, but then it

6:41

gets a bit better. And you sort

6:41

of work out how to jam with each

6:43

other and how to communicate.

6:43

And it's just a really fun night

6:46

full of loud music.

6:48

What's the best song

6:48

you've played at Dog House, or

6:51

the worst?

6:52

I feel like you never really play a song. It's probably just like a chord loop.

6:54

But I definitely remember once

6:57

like sometimes you play and you

6:57

just don't catch. Remember, our

7:00

guitar is telling me the chords.

7:00

He says that yeah, we're gonna

7:02

go for this E major seven, flat

7:02

five into like an E flat sub

7:05

dominant and never move into

7:05

like it was just, I think if I

7:09

sat down and looted it, I could

7:09

have remembered but there's a

7:11

good go. And that was terrible.

7:11

So the best time is just when

7:15

you've got four simple cards,

7:15

and everyone's having fun. And

7:18

no one's worrying about too

7:18

much. And you don't have a jazzy

7:20

show off guitarist,

7:22

we'll just go for 1 5 6

7:22

4 the four chords. And

7:26

yes,

7:26

then, something ...

7:27

please

7:28

and maybe play don't

7:28

stop believing halfway through.

7:30

Yeah, a little melody

7:30

reference in the right hand.

7:32

Everyone loves that. Yeah. And

7:32

then the second song is always a

7:35

blues. And it's spectacular. You

7:35

can have a completely different

7:39

band of completely different

7:39

people. And they play the same

7:41

song. It's really fun.

7:42

So you're going to after

7:42

after your meal, are you going

7:46

to go play? Dog House?

7:48

Yeah, you only got to

7:48

play two songs. So it's you play

7:51

and you chat to folk and it's,

7:51

it's quite a hotspot for

7:54

different musicians and people

7:54

that like like musics. And as

7:57

you see the same sort of crowd

7:57

if you go more than one, so it's

8:00

nice. So you can go on your own,

8:00

and you'll probably meet someone

8:03

that you would know, it's just

8:03

really nice loads of music

8:05

students go. Yeah, so

8:06

it's really good social

8:06

space to go to at any point in

8:10

your uni career, would you say?

8:11

Oh, I mean, definitely

8:11

like if you especially if you're

8:13

trying to get involved in the

8:13

music scene, so there's no like

8:15

barrier if you wanted to come

8:15

and just like play a couple

8:18

cards and say like, oh, I

8:18

there's my first time, people,

8:21

that would be really cool. If

8:21

you wanted to go into a cool

8:24

jazz standard and geek out,

8:24

you'd probably find people that

8:27

would do the same. So it's,

8:27

yeah, it's really open, it's...

8:30

yeah. And then you graduate to

8:30

jazz bar and that's when you

8:33

like the geeking out is just

8:33

unnecessary.

8:35

So you go you have to

8:35

Dog House to jazz bar. What's

8:38

after jazz bar?

8:39

Edinburgh Collective.

8:43

Edinburgh collective at Cab Vol?

8:46

Yeah, exactly. That's

8:46

the peak.

8:48

And then after that

8:48

you're playing at Murrayfield.

8:51

true, true that or maybe

8:51

after that they'll build a

8:53

better venue in Edinburgh with a

8:53

larger capacity and everyone

8:56

will be happy.

8:57

And the headline will

8:57

always be... Edinburgh

9:00

Collective. Yes, Edinburgh

9:00

Collective presents: something

9:08

cool.

9:08

I don't know if there's like a basic answer, but I really, really like Calton

9:10

Hill. It's just I feel like I

9:14

really like going on walks. But

9:14

at the same time, I'm not like

9:16

someone who would go on hikes or

9:16

anything. So Arthur's Seat is

9:20

very much like out of the

9:20

question for me. But like a

9:23

place like on the hill you get

9:23

like a nice walk up, you get

9:27

nice views, and the sunsets I

9:27

can't hills, like they're also

9:30

beautiful. So I think on the

9:30

Hill for sure is one of my

9:34

favorite places in the city. And

9:34

I think that that's also because

9:38

I take so many people up there

9:38

every time like friends from

9:41

home visit. I'm always like,

9:41

Okay, let's go to Carlton Hill

9:43

for the sunset. And yeah, like

9:43

I've had these there before as

9:47

well. So it's like a very nice,

9:47

like, special little place.

9:49

I think Carlton Hill is

9:49

quite unique in that. It's a

9:53

viewpoint over the city, but

9:53

it's not necessarily too much of

9:57

a hike to get up to.

9:58

Yeah, exactly like

9:58

it's pretty accessible,

10:00

especially for someone like me.

10:00

I don't really like walking like

10:04

up hill for an extended period

10:04

of time. So it's perfect for me.

10:08

Yeah. Do you go the

10:08

gradual route? Or do you go up

10:13

the stairs to get to the top as

10:13

quick as possible?

10:16

I get up the stairs

10:16

like, I like it. Just quick and

10:19

easy. Just up the stairs.

10:20

I'm exactly the same. I

10:20

go up the stairs and then I'm at

10:23

the top and it's all done. I can

10:23

just see the view from there.

10:25

Oh, on Carlton Hill is is

10:25

featured in Have you ever

10:29

watched sunshine on Leith? No.

10:32

You should. Is that

10:32

like a movie or a TV show?

10:36

It is. It's it's our

10:36

movie musical. And with all the

10:40

Proclaimers songs, and it's

10:40

based in Edinburgh, and they go

10:44

up Carlton hill at one point.

10:44

Okay, okay,

10:46

okay, okay. Okay, I'm

10:46

adding that to my list. That

10:49

sounds really nice.

10:50

It's so good. It's

10:50

really heartwarming, like, it's

10:52

just kind of a feel good film.

10:55

I like I really like

10:55

me a good feel good film. So I

10:58

will definitely be watching that. Thank you for your suggestion.

11:01

Oh, no problem, because

11:01

like, you can find a map online

11:04

I think of all the different

11:04

places to go to because,

11:06

obviously, obviously they go to

11:06

leaf, but they also go down the

11:10

Royal Mile. They do a big bit on

11:10

Princes Street towards the end.

11:16

It's, it just kind of gives you

11:16

a quick tour of Edinburgh. And

11:20

now that you've done your four

11:20

years here, you can be like I've

11:23

been there. I've been there. I

11:23

know where that is. Oh, okay.

11:25

I'll definitely be watching that. That sounds really nice. Yeah,

11:28

I absolutely love that

11:28

film. You've just had your

11:32

dinner at schedules and it's

11:32

time to get picked up. Or you're

11:35

maybe you're gonna go back on

11:35

the bullet train for a quick

11:39

hour ride back down to home. But

11:39

you're gonna go first to your

11:45

favorite place in Edinburgh.

11:45

Where is that? And why is it

11:50

So this is going to sound a

11:50

wee bit cheesy. But I would say,

11:50

your favorite? I would say the Meadows.

11:56

Interesting. I just hosted so

12:00

many parties there. I've, I've

12:00

had barbecues there. I've I've

12:07

had quite a lot of shows there

12:07

with my friends. And there's

12:10

just so many so many memories.

12:10

They're taking place there. So

12:16

it'd be nice to go and chill

12:16

again on a pint or a glass of

12:22

wine. And you know saying

12:22

goodbye to Edinburgh city that

12:27

I've spent five years in.

12:30

Yeah, everyone has the

12:30

section that they sit in the

12:33

most in the Meadows which one's

12:33

yours?

12:38

Great question. So, so so

12:38

so Victor Hugo, you know, Victor

12:45

Hugo, the Victor Hugo Deli?

12:45

Yeah, the red cafe. Yep.

12:49

Basically, if you cross the road

12:49

and go on to the meadows, you

12:53

turn slightly left. There's one

12:53

bit that goes straight to the

12:57

library. So not that road. But

12:57

the row on the left. I usually

13:02

sit along there on the left side

13:02

of that road, because that's

13:06

where you get the most Sun naturally.

13:08

Yeah, I think I go into

13:08

the one that's in front of the

13:12

library the most next to the

13:12

community garden.

13:14

Oh yeah. Oh, yeah. Yeah,

13:14

yeah, definitely know where that

13:17

is. That one? Yes. Yeah.

13:17

Absolutely. That's my spot.

13:21

Sometimes go there, too. Yeah,

13:21

yeah. Just because there's

13:24

flowers and stuff. And actually,

13:24

that is actually quite good for

13:27

sun as well. Because this is no

13:27

annoying trees just shadowing

13:34

the sun as well. So

13:35

the Meadows is so

13:35

central to the Edinburgh uni

13:40

experience, I think. I mean,

13:40

it's right next to campus,

13:43

especially for people who were

13:43

at uni in COVID years. It was

13:49

one of the spaces that you could

13:49

socialize because

13:53

I had that many many times

13:53

actually, like during lockdown.

13:56

I was here during lockdown. So

13:56

me, me and my partner, we always

14:01

just go and sit in the meadows

14:01

and enjoy we cheapy Prosecco.

14:08

I really liked this

14:08

recurring theme of Prosecco

14:11

bottles of wine.

14:13

Well, you don't want me to

14:13

tell you about all the times

14:16

I've had bad experiences.

14:24

So this is the bit that

14:24

you're not prepared for? Oh, no.

14:28

We have a surprise question for

14:28

you. So each each guest gets a

14:33

surprise question from a

14:33

different person. And yours is

14:37

coming from a previous Multi

14:37

Story Edinburgh participant. He

14:41

graduated in 2020. And he

14:41

graduated in psychology and the

14:47

question that he is asking you,

14:47

it his name is Jay by the way.

14:51

The question that Jay is asking

14:51

you is which uni building did

14:57

you like going to study in the

14:57

most?

14:59

so Good question because I

14:59

did like, kind of explore a

15:02

little bit in my fourth year and

15:02

also like over the summer months

15:06

when I was done work for the

15:06

uni, because it was a bit

15:09

quieter so I can like explore. I

15:09

spent a lot of my time at the

15:16

Main Library,

15:17

right, okay.

15:18

And I explore through the

15:18

different floors to see which

15:21

one I vibed with more.

15:23

Everyone does have their

15:23

floor. Which one's yours?

15:25

Yeah, so it started off as

15:25

fourth floor. But fourth floor

15:28

is like the social floor. Right?

15:28

So you know, you get so many

15:31

people talking and that really

15:31

caught my nerves. So I went to

15:36

lower ground

15:36

Lower ground is silent.

15:38

Yeah, I love lower ground

15:38

because I think I don't know if

15:42

this ceilings are actually

15:42

taller by just feels a bit. I

15:46

feel like it's a bit more open

15:46

than the other floors, because

15:50

our floors felt a bit stuffy. So

15:50

yeah, I went lower ground, but

15:56

people told me like, that's

15:56

where all the engineers and

16:01

like, the computer scientists go

16:01

just they're like, a Psych

16:06

student like hey.

16:09

I use lower ground quite

16:09

a lot. I prefer in library to

16:14

use the pods, actually. Oh, on the ground floor.

16:17

Yeah. And there's some on the

16:17

first floor as well. Yeah,

16:20

they're really hard to get they

16:20

are. The only reason we get them

16:23

is because one of my friends

16:23

goes in at eight in the morning.

16:26

Oh, yeah. Yeah, it was, it

16:26

was a different experience going

16:30

into library at like seven in

16:30

the morning is that that's what

16:33

I did, like, kind of leading up

16:33

to my dissertation deadline,

16:36

because I realized, you know, if

16:36

I just wake up and do the work,

16:39

I get it done. So I'll go in and

16:39

like, I'll go down to lower

16:42

ground. It's like, there's no

16:42

one and I was quite nice because

16:45

like by 5pm, I can leave without

16:45

feeling guilty. And everyone's

16:49

still like cramming in as

16:49

grades. But I quite liked the

16:54

psychology library as well. Um,

16:54

okay, we have our own library in

17:00

the psychology department in

17:00

George Square. And yeah, it's

17:05

just more like, you know, this

17:05

it's mainly books and there's

17:07

some tables. And I quite like

17:07

working there if I wanted to

17:12

have a work life balance because

17:12

it closes at 5pm So you have to

17:16

get up

17:19

you know, there is

17:19

something to be said about if

17:22

you're forced to finish at five

17:22

then you will start earlier and

17:26

you get an evening.

17:27

Yeah, exactly. So I think I

17:27

did that a couple times. And

17:30

then I realize I'm not really

17:30

that kind of person so yeah, I

17:36

have to like psychology library,

17:36

which is like move...

17:39

on to the main library.

17:41

Yeah. So like breaking it

17:41

up in different shifts.

17:45

The places that I

17:45

started the most were either

17:49

Main Library and the pods, or I

17:49

use Pleasance Cafe quite a bit.

17:55

I haven't recently because

17:55

honestly, I hope somebody from

18:00

Pleasance Cafe hears this and

18:00

they can change it. The music is

18:05

either so loud or it's the same

18:05

songs every day.

18:09

Yeah, I heard about that.

18:09

Yeah, because we had a few

18:13

events at the Pleasance Cafe and

18:13

I know that people that study

18:16

there but yeah, it's the music.

18:17

I cannot have 11 in the

18:17

morning where I'm still kind of

18:22

getting into studying and I need

18:22

it silent. And then hey ya by

18:27

OutKast comes on. So did have

18:27

Pleasance if... they've got a

18:32

Jazz Playlist now as well, I

18:32

think but it's still just the

18:35

same songs. So if it can be a

18:35

little bit a little bit

18:39

different and quieter than I

18:39

will go back there. Yeah.

18:44

I do love an African

18:44

wrap. But they are. They're only

18:48

a fiver. So maybe I'll get the

18:48

you need to be somewhere a bit

18:51

more expensive. No, I was gonna

18:51

go for still it's still an

18:56

affordable place. But actually,

18:56

a friend from badminton. Yeah,

19:02

you know where I'm going

19:02

I absolutely do. And I'm

19:02

really glad you are because I've

19:05

been wanting to mention this

19:05

under this question for every

19:08

recording I've done so far.

19:11

But no, a friend who I

19:11

actually originally knew from

19:15

when I was like 12, playing

19:15

badminton because he grew up in

19:17

Edinburgh, but since moved away,

19:17

and then he came back and he now

19:22

plays casually in the balancing

19:22

club. But he has a restaurant

19:27

called Cafe pomelo. And it's,

19:27

the food is epic. It's just such

19:34

a nice place to go to because we

19:34

know Jun who who owns it and he

19:39

always gives like the most warm

19:39

welcome it kind of and we were

19:43

very fortunate to receive lots

19:43

of lots of leftovers and

19:47

everything. It's awesome. That's

19:47

awesome when you wake up on a

19:50

Sunday morning for leftovers

19:50

from the restaurant the night

19:52

before. Yeah, not bad. But no, I

19:52

just think the food's epic. And

19:58

it kind of feels a bit like a

19:58

home away from home as well. So

20:02

a really lovely place to go to

20:02

if I hadn't been in Edinburgh

20:05

for a while, head back there to

20:05

cafe formula.

20:08

I'm honestly so glad

20:08

that you've chosen Cafe Pomelo

20:12

because if I was being asked

20:12

this question that is also where

20:15

I'd say. It's just it's so

20:15

unique at Cafe pomelo. I don't

20:20

find that stuff anywhere else in

20:20

jeans that great of a share.

20:24

Every time you go in, it's such

20:24

high quality. I normally ask

20:29

whoever's on what dish they're

20:29

getting. What are you getting?

20:34

And is it going to be the same as what I would get?

20:36

Oh, okay. Okay. Well,

20:36

there is a classic. There is

20:42

which I, which I normally get. I

20:42

mean, if I'm going there, I'm

20:46

getting everything. Yeah. I

20:46

think I'll try and get

20:50

everything. But yeah, don't go

20:50

for the afternoon. I'll go for

20:57

the classic. Yeah, it's this the

20:57

handgrip pork noodles with the

21:01

garlic chili sauce. It's It's

21:01

good. It's good. Really, really

21:06

tasty. It's like my absolute

21:06

favorite. Like, oh, I'm going to

21:09

have a side of the ban-chan

21:09

radish, and smack cucumber sides

21:15

as well, because I just love

21:15

that. But that's, that's a

21:18

classic lunch for me. So good.

21:21

Ah, hand ripped noodles

21:21

is the choice to have when you

21:25

go to cafe pomelo, in my

21:25

opinion. And I normally when I

21:30

go, I will get them and I'll

21:30

share them with with other

21:33

people. Is that what you do? Or

21:33

do you take a bowl to yourself?

21:36

I don't want to go by

21:36

myself. I'm quite happy to share

21:42

like other things like we can we

21:42

can have a few sites and stuff.

21:45

But there's something about it's

21:45

not it's not the easiest sharing

21:49

food, you've got to get scissors

21:49

to cut them up through these

21:52

massive long noodles, which are.

21:52

There's only like two noodles in

21:56

this giant ball and you're so

21:56

full by the end of it. So it's

21:58

just absolutely huge. No, I'm

21:58

kind of I'm kind of greedy. I

22:01

like to have a bowl by myself

22:01

and just get absolutely mucked

22:04

in. And yeah, get stuck into it.

22:07

Fair. I think I go for

22:07

the hand ripped noodles and I

22:12

get the scallion noodles and I

22:12

share them as the mains between

22:15

I'm normally with one other

22:15

person, so I share them with

22:18

with them. But you are so right

22:18

in that you have to get the

22:21

whole menu if it's not the

22:21

biggest menu because you know,

22:26

it's quite a small place, which

22:26

means that you absolutely can't

22:29

eat the whole thing if you're getting this for free.

22:31

Yeah, I shall look

22:31

forward to I'll be a good night.

22:35

Well, you're getting to

22:35

go to Cafe Pomelo with one other

22:39

person. And the uni is also

22:39

covering for. So who are you

22:44

going to choose to take with you?

22:45

Well, and by one other

22:45

person? Can I get like seven or

22:52

eight? Is that allowed?

22:56

I have a feeling I know

22:56

where you're going with this.

22:59

I'm gonna love it. Who are you

22:59

bringing with you?

23:02

I would like to go with

23:02

my flatmates. My university

23:06

flatmates from second, third,

23:06

fourth, fifth year, I think

23:10

like, I had been really truly

23:10

blessed with the people that

23:14

I've got to live with. And I

23:14

don't think I would have had as

23:17

positive a unique experience by

23:17

any. I don't think it'd be

23:21

anywhere near as close having an

23:21

amazing uni experience or as

23:26

positive and experience post

23:26

bakeoff for me as well, without

23:30

having such strong support in my

23:30

flatmates over that time. I'm

23:36

thinking about living in

23:36

lockdown. And in third year, my

23:42

three flatmates then they were

23:42

basically the only people I

23:45

could see on a consistent basis.

23:45

And we had the most amazing time

23:49

still, I think it's I think it's

23:49

wildly impressive that we

23:52

somehow we never fell out. We

23:52

never had a flight and and we

23:57

just like grew really close. And

23:57

yeah, I think that's absolutely

24:01

epic. And I've just been so

24:01

fortunate to have the most

24:04

amazing flatmates. So you get a

24:04

free dinner as well, Andrew,

24:08

there you go.

24:09

I may have been a bit

24:09

bias by allowing the seven or

24:12

eight people to come instead of

24:12

one busy. Me. But if I'm getting

24:16

a pomelo, I'll take a pomelo.

24:16

Yeah. Thank you for that. That

24:22

is very kind that you have

24:22

chosen. Well, I'm saying time

24:27

because it's me but you've

24:27

chosen all your flatmates. I

24:29

think that's quite a special

24:29

relationship that you've had in

24:32

your time at uni. Because, as

24:32

you said, locked down, you were

24:36

with your flatmates for the

24:36

entire time and have people that

24:40

you get on with must have made

24:40

it so much easier.

24:44

Living with your friends

24:44

is epic. And I'm living by

24:49

myself now and you know, there's

24:49

there's like, it's nice to come

24:52

back to your own space and

24:52

there's a bit of a transition

24:55

and you know, that's, that's

24:55

good but at uni you get To live

25:00

with telling me your absolute

25:00

best friends. And that's a

25:02

really cool thing. When you get

25:02

that, that is a really, really

25:06

cool thing to do. You know, you

25:06

won't get that for the rest of

25:09

your life, you probably wouldn't

25:09

want that for the rest of your

25:11

life. There's probably a point

25:11

where you're like, oh, maybe

25:16

maybe, maybe we should make we

25:16

should move on and move

25:20

elsewhere. But yeah, to just get

25:20

to chill out and laugh in the

25:24

kitchen and have, you know,

25:24

silly movie nights and get to

25:29

know each other. Over the year

25:29

that you live with each other,

25:32

or the couple of years either

25:32

for each other. It's a really,

25:34

really special thing. And it's a

25:34

great privilege when you get to

25:37

live with some of your best mates.

25:39

I totally agree. I think

25:39

there's something really homely

25:43

about in a smaller restaurant,

25:43

you have all your flatmates and

25:48

yourself. Aw that is a really,

25:48

it's a really nice sentiment

25:52

you've come up with there. Now since this is the last

25:57

episode, in my series of Multi

26:02

Story Edinburgh, I thought this

26:02

would be a nice chance to tell

26:05

you my favorite place in

26:05

Edinburgh. So for me, my

26:09

favorite place is Inverleith

26:09

Park. And for those of you who

26:13

don't know, Inverleith, is near

26:13

Stockbridge in the new town. And

26:19

I really like it because it's

26:19

quiet. Edinburgh is such a busy

26:24

and loud city, it's so pretty

26:24

but when you get into the new

26:29

town, you can escape how loud

26:29

the city can be at times.

26:34

Marchmont and Southside is not

26:34

too bad but Inverleith also

26:39

holds a lot of special memories

26:39

to me, which adds on top of that

26:42

so I wouldn''t choose the Brae

26:42

hills over Inverleith because of

26:45

that, but personally, I really

26:45

enjoy doing an Inverleith Park

26:49

is late at night when the whole

26:49

city has gone quiet pretty much

26:56

because there's not many ambulances down in Inverleith, unlike in Newington, where I

26:58

spend most of my time. It's

27:03

really quiet, the stars are out

27:03

and I've just finished work. And

27:07

I put on my headphones, put some

27:07

music on, and I get to

27:11

Inverleith Park on my travels

27:11

back. And there's nobody there.

27:15

And it just feels nice to feel

27:15

the world fall away from you.

27:20

I'll admit, while I'm there,

27:20

what I do is when I play my

27:24

music, I might have a little

27:24

dance as I walk down in

27:27

Inverleith park, but nobody's

27:27

there to judge me. Nobody's

27:31

there to see me doing it. Nobody

27:31

can hear me singing along to the

27:34

lyrics. And it just makes it one

27:34

of my favourite places in

27:39

Edinburgh. Because it's that

27:39

little slice of quiet in the

27:44

busy city. I hope you enjoyed this special

27:45

edition of Multi Story

27:54

Edinburgh. This is my final

27:54

episode as your student host. So

27:58

I really hope that you've

27:58

enjoyed the whole series and

28:00

you'll continue listening when

28:00

the next host takes over. Thank

28:04

you very much for listening to

28:04

season five of Multi Story

28:48

Edinburgh. All roads lead to

28:48

Edinburgh. Goodbye.
