In this episode, Don interviews Melinda Hwang! She is the Founder of Happy Masks. Happy Masks is an innovative mask company birthed in the pandemic, and has always been a family affair. 20 years ago in Taiwan, Melinda’s father partnered with a scientist to develop a powerful nanofiber membrane filter to protect against the airborne SARs epidemic in 2003. Fast forward to March 2020, and Melinda’s mom was worried about the family’s safety as COVID spread in the U.S., so she sent them a box of these masks. As Melinda and her kids started wearing them around the neighborhood, friends and neighbors started noticing the advantages of these unique “parrot beak” shaped masks. Soon friends of friends, and friends-of-friends-of-friends, started asking for them.

Melinda was able to combine her past in marketing with her future as a business owner, and used her father’s technology to meet demand with supply. Hence, Happy Masks was formed. Happy Masks was created because they wanted to make these masks available for all families. Whether it’s going to the grocery store or visiting a grandparent, their mission is to make it possible for you to do the things you love with the people you love.
