Sex is often far from a postpartum mum’s mind, but did you know that your body could be gearing up to ovulate again just 21 days after birth?

In this episode I talk to Dr. Emma Kilgarriff a GP, who has worked in family medicine with qualifications in Obstetrics and Family Planning. She is in practice in the Claddagh Medical Centre in Galway city and particularly specialises in the area of Women’s reproductive and sexual health.

Formerly Clinical Lead in Obstetrics and Gynaecology for the Irish College of General Practitioners, she is a member of the Reproductive and Sexual Health Committee of the ICGP, and is a GP tutor in Long-Acting Reversible Contraception.

So you can see why she is the perfect person to talk to us about our fertility after birth, when it’s medically safe to return to sex, the best contraception options for women after having a baby and how every mum can be best supported by her GP at the six-week postnatal check up.
