Sadly, this self-perception is very subtle and comes in stages, it could be in how you define beauty regarding yourself and feeling inferior to your counterparts. This is why I am a strong believer in the art of finding beauty through the dirt and tears when life doesn't go our way, this is why loving  EXACTLY who God made you to be is the first start to truly loving every part of YOU!
