Our newest Myopic Medicine Radio episode is called “Black Boxes Surrounding the Existence of ADHD.” (You can subscribe to the podcast at iTunes, Spotify, or listen via the media player above.)

In the first episode of the first-ever series from Myopic Medicine, we look at the denial of mental illness and its consequences in terms of “black boxes”, a label created by Bruno Latour in his book Science in Action that explores how to analyze the fabrication of scientific facts. Latour defines a black box as an indisputable assertion or fact. These black boxes are created and guided by statements of evidence called modalities. Positive modalities lead a statement away from the fact’s conditions of production and render other consequences necessary. Negative modalities are the sentences that lead a statement in the other direction towards its conditions of production and that explain in detail why it is solid or weak.
