I love reading Mysterious Universe reviews because they almost completely mirror the reviews that my pod gets by these childlike, easily-offended, ANTIFA-loving crybaby SJW snowflakes that demand their language be used and their ideology be adopted by the entire world. Oh, and if you don't, you're a racist, transphobic, misogynist, sexist, proud boy, "MAGAt", trump-loving, Nazi. These morons are cultural terrorists and I'm glad that MU has decided to ignore and mock them, which is exactly what they deserve.
I was a steadfast listener of this podcast all the way back in 2012 and 2013. They would tell spooky and weird stories about ghosts, aliens and the general paranormal, but always with a tinge of skepticism. It was fun! Then the desperation seemed to set in and they started pushing their paid premium podcast more and more. Over time, they stopped telling the fun, spooky, weird stories and started delving more in to generic pop culture news, where they were often childish, crude and annoying. Eventually I stopped listening in 2014 after one of the hosts went on a tirade about how people weren't giving them enough money, accosting the freeloaders who weren't paying for their "premium" stuff.Six years later, Mysterious Universe somehow still survives (as it turns out, podcasts don't actually cost much money to produce). And wondering if they ever recovered from their spate of crass pop-culture commentary, I unfortunately discovered the hosts have transitioned in to what is basically just bigotry, now disguised as "edgy comedy." They attack minority groups and spin wildly destructive conspiracies that aren't entertaining, they're just scary and sad. This podcast used to be one of my favorites, but now the mask is clearly off for Mysterious Universe. These guys are bad, bad news, and I advise you to stay far away, because they are clearly drinking from tainted wells.
Rude and nasty not cool
One of the first podcasts I listened to. I enjoyed it for about ten years, and the early iteration of MU would earn 4 or 5 stars. I was a plus member for a long time and canned it when the format morphed to a weekly book review, and the ‘spark’ that propelled the show all but disappeared. The nail in the coffin was the bizarre anti - science and conspiracy rants creeping into the podcast. In earlier days, Aaron was a great foil to Ben when he’d skate into conspiracy land, but at the end Aaron had donned a tin - foil hat big enough for both of them. I know their key audience is the US, and perhaps this style plays to that audience.
I have been with this podcast since episode 3, It's been a staple in my everyday listening, until now...This past year it has turned from the best podcast to one of the lamest and uninteresting podcasts to listen to. They have lost their fight. Update: I cannot believe how bad this podcast has gotten!I can't be the only one that thinks this. All these reviews of 5 stars. What? Are you people listing to the shows? It's just a book club of books that no one wants to read.
I recently was blocked from their Facebook group for making a critical comment about Nick Redfern`s article. In the article Redfern suggested that numerous well known UFO encounters such as Rendlesham... the Villas Boas case.. Betty and Barney Hill case and so on were all government experiments and that the UFO field has been duped!! Well I am sure many would agree with me that the evidence for goverment experiments is flimsy at best and I voiced my criticisms. The next day I discovered that my comment had been removed and I had been banned from commenting on their posts. So these guys are probably the fascists of the Australian paranormal world and have an incredibly thin skin. Anyone who has given them less than 2 stars you will probably be blocked. lol. If you are looking for a serious paranormal podcast or forum group where people can discuss, debate and critique on occasion then I would suggest to look elsewhere.
Love love love love how they take these topics completely seriously but tinged with a health dose of doubt.
I can't count the number of times I have skipped Aaron's segment completely. He just talks about the most outlandish bullshit. This show is perfect when Ben tells a good story and Aaron asks interesting questions. They are not good switching roles
In the year 4640, my name is Zyren Thalaxis, and I have been given a mission of unparalleled importance. Earth has been under the control of the Alien Hate League for 2300 years, a grim reality that began from an improbable source: a joke. Two individuals, the prophet Benjamin and the foolish Aaron, casually spoke of the League on a podcast. Little did they know that their words would be taken literally by the United Nations in 2133, leading to a galaxy-wide war, claiming hundreds of millions of lives. A joke turned into humanity's manifesto against all alien species, a catastrophe that spiraled out of control. My father was sent on a peace talks mission to quell the storm of hate, but the seeds of animosity had rooted too deeply. I was left with no choice but to travel back to the 21st century, to destroy the idea of the League at its inception. As I stare into the vortex of time, ready to embark on this perilous journey, I can't help but feel the weight of the entire galaxy on my shoulders. The fate of both human and alien civilizations rests in my hands, and I cannot fail. All I have to guide me are the echoes of that fateful podcast, a small spark that ignited an inferno of hatred. I must extinguish it, or the galaxy will never know peace again.
I've been listening for a few years and somehow missed the white supremacist guest and altright vibe everyone is talking about. I will say they aren't as good as they used to be. It all started with the stupid green stone saga. They just got into retelling really boring books about psychics whereas in the past they were more diverse and had more short segments of strange news and interviews which I liked better. I still listen casually but apparently not enough to pick up the politics.
Great podcast!! Funny, informative and generally entertaining!
While they cover some interesting topics, this show has gone off the rails since the introduction of alt-right conspiracy theories (climate change denialism, anti-vaxx, bigotry, etc). They could also probably benefit from a healthy dose of skepticism like they used to. Unfortunately, I can't pay for bonus content if that's the kind of RWNJ garbage they choose to spew out.
Used to listen but something happened several years ago and now soooo BORING, unfunny and just ignorant. Like sitting with teenagers at lunchtime. Hard to listen to anymore.
Used to be great but I'm not here to support hosts with such trash beliefs.
My favorite podcast of all time, great content and very pleasant to listen to the hosts accents. Plus member, been listening for 3 years.
This is my go-to paranormal show when I want something entertaining and easy to listen to.
It's a real shame what's happened to this show. I used to enjoy it quite a bit, as the pair presented stories really well, with one foot firmly in reality. They weren't afraid to laugh at the truly absurd, whilst still remaining open minded. The humor has always been a bit blue which I never had a problem with, but gradually they seemed to slip into disrespecting some vulnerable groups, and pushing some backwards beliefs that really made your skin crawl. You'd often end an episode with a nasty taste in your mouth. I drew the line when they pushed some idiotic conspiracy around covid vaccines at the height of the pandemic, refusing to apply any of the analysis and skepticism they've used before on much more frivious topics. I've tried to listen to some newer episodes since then since I really did used to enjoy it, but I think I've been irreversibly soured on the pair. The show used to feel like sharing paranormal stories with a couple of mates over a beer - but those mates now seem like a pair of bitter, out of touch, dirty old men. I feel genuinely embarrassed that I used to recommend this podcast to people. It was good while it lasted, I suppose.
I used to LOVE this podcast but it's steadily gone down the drain. Used to recommend it to everyone but I'm now embarrassed I did. I would hope that last episode was a joke... I've previously read that people are upset about the far right, white supremacist, racist, conspiracy theory extremists but haven't thought much of it. Then came this last episode, the interview where Ben and Richard Dolan are, well let's say, pleasuring each other with their hands telepathically (maybe Aaron was in there too but I couldn't even finish the episode). And celebrating Fox news host Tucker Carlson (the guy's a moron. Even Fox news own people quit because of his dilirious rants) as well as hailing anti vaxxers and their protest. All to drive their own agenda, their belief in far right conspiracy theories. It's frustrating that they don't seem to see it themselves. Even the way their making the episodes now are worse. Ben is more often just an element of interruption with his sounds. I will not be giving anymore of my money to these people who apparently have gone mad, thinking that far right views is the way to go in talking to people who just wants to hear about mysterious phenomenon in the world.
This is by far my favourite podcast! Such well crafted story telling. I look forward to each new episode that comes out.
Mysterious Universe has definitely changed. I understand this podcast is not just about paranormal encounters, but it was the first podcast I found a couple years ago when searching under the paranormal genre. I remember having my attention grabbed, being so interested and wanting to listen to the next episode asap. They have definitely branched outside of paranormal, which is fine since they state their podcast is about more, but I have the worst time trying to stay interested now. Almost every other or every few podcasts are interviews and for me they have been flat and lacked the grab factor. I know for some this is more of what they're interested in so definitely give it a chance, the slower interview type style just isn't my taste.
