John Mitchell Jr. was the "Fighting Editor" that devoted his professional career to attacking and challenging racial violence and prejudice. He grew up in Reconstruction Era Virginia. It was a time of conflict as everyone adjusted to life post-civil war, and most importantly post-slavery.

John Mitchell Jr. walked into the jaws of death in Reconstruction-era Virginia to spite white supremacists. Very few people know of his legacy today despite his incredible influence during his time. This is his story.
