In 1963, Nic Wolpe was a sickly baby when his parents were arrested by the apartheid government . Hospitalised and thus unable to immediately join his on-the-run father and deported mother when they arrived in the UK, he was only well enough to follow them the following year.
Wolpe returned to the land of his birth in 1991, and as we hear in this extraordinary half hour, it was like he never left the country. Although exiled, his family dedicated their lives to The Struggle and never wavered in their belief that their cause would prevail.
In the years following his return, appreciating the critical role of Liliesleaf, Wolpe promoted the idea of repurchasing Liliesleaf Farm for national posterity, a dream that became reality in 2002. He serves as the CEO of Liliesleaf Trust, and is delighted to have the CEOSleepOut at the venue on 11th July, the 55th anniversary of the 1963 police raid when six of the 10 Rivonia Trialists were arrested.
