The NFL Total Access is a production

0:02

of the NFL in partnership with iHeartRadio.

0:05

It's Friday, April twenty sixth, and you're

0:07

listening to NFL Total Access, the

0:09

podcast.

0:15

That is the voice of today's special

0:17

guest, the host of the NFL Total

0:20

Access post draft coverage

0:23

last night, tonight, and tomorrow. Stay

0:25

with NFL Network or flip over to

0:28

NFL Network get the conclusion of Draft

0:30

Day two to watch this man lead

0:32

the analysis, the context, the stories

0:35

behind the stories, and you have a little

0:37

judgment too of rounds two and three,

0:39

picks thirty three through one hundred. This

0:41

man is a lottery pick around here.

0:44

He's the sweet Potato Katies. Mikey and welcome

0:46

back to the pod, yammer.

0:47

You know, I had some days off leading into

0:49

our draft coverage. I was listening to

0:51

this podcast to get caught up on a lot

0:53

of stuff. Can I just throw this out here. I think the Mark

0:56

Ross episode might have been one of my more favorite

0:58

ones. And if you are a draft junkie,

1:00

I'm just telling you can actually listen to that podcast

1:03

because I know you guys dipped into

1:05

some of the players, so like that's that's fine. But

1:08

the strategy behind what's actually

1:10

happening in the draft rooms. I think is fascinating

1:13

stuff. So not every episode

1:15

to one and done, like there's some legs on that one.

1:17

I can thank you for listening and thank you for saying that

1:19

Mike will lead. Quarterback Chase Daniel

1:21

and running back Maurice Jones Drew on

1:24

tonight's NFL Total Access Our

1:26

nightly post draft recap

1:28

special. Chase was an absolute

1:31

machine of a college quarterback, record

1:33

setting numbers, impeccable rep went undrafted

1:36

and then wore an NFL uniform for fourteen

1:38

seasons from Maurice top ten talent,

1:40

but worries about his height conspired

1:43

against him. MJD fell to the sixtieth

1:45

pick of the second round, and then well

1:48

he was an NFL rushing champ.

1:50

So look.

1:51

MJD incidentally wore the number thirty

1:53

two in the NFL as a silent protest

1:56

that thirty two NFL teams passed on him

1:59

in that two thousand and six first

2:01

round. Okay, Mike, ham let's turn to this moment.

2:04

Thirty two teams passed on running backs

2:06

yesterday. They also passed on safeties and

2:09

on linebackers, and in some years

2:11

that might have been a story or even the

2:13

story, just not this year.

2:16

Six quarterbacks in the first dozen

2:18

picks. That's right.

2:19

The first round of the twenty twenty four NFL Draft

2:22

was a run on quarterbacks, three

2:24

straight to start the day.

2:26

Caleb william Jayden Daniel read

2:29

me, Mike, cam you saw it.

2:30

Caleb Williams at one, screaming, joyful,

2:33

enjoying the moment, A bit casual on

2:35

the phone for me when he got the word.

2:37

But we tend to look too closely for things

2:39

like that in days like these, and it's

2:41

probably unfair.

2:43

Mike.

2:43

You told me, specifically, you told

2:45

me two years ago that this is the best quarterback

2:47

prospect since Andrew Luck,

2:49

which probably pisses Joe Burrow off a little

2:52

bit. But all to say, the Bears have

2:54

their guy.

2:54

Then they got their guy.

2:56

A wide out in Rome Adunze at

2:58

nine. Have some saying

3:01

that this rounds out one of the better offensive

3:03

rosters in the NFL.

3:04

A lot of reasons for Bears fan to be excited today.

3:07

You should be thrilled if you are a Chicago Bears

3:09

fan, because not only do you have your quarterback of the future,

3:11

you have arguably the best wide

3:14

receiver in the class. Now, I think some people say, what

3:16

about Marvin Harrison, what about Molik Neighbors.

3:18

All I'm telling you is the people that we know, that

3:20

we're friends with, that have done the evaluations

3:23

all seem to think that those three guys it

3:25

almost doesn't matter. They all

3:28

are going to have a ton of success in the NFL, and

3:30

who knows system and fit and all those types of things are

3:32

going to matter. But along with Caleb and

3:35

Roman Donzay you made reference to it, we already got

3:37

DJ Moore in the fold, right, we already got keenan All in

3:39

the fold. We got DeAndre Swift, who showed he could

3:41

flash in a Philadelphia uniform, who's

3:43

now wearing a Chicago Bears uniform. You

3:46

have to feel supremely confident now

3:48

in your offense. And the biggest question is

3:51

their lag for Caleb Williams in

3:53

week one? How long will it

3:55

take for him to be the difference maker that a

3:57

lot of people think he can be?

4:00

Questions being asked potentially of Jaden Daniels

4:02

now in Washington. Jaden Daniels at two,

4:04

He looked joyful, He looked a bit relieved,

4:06

which Mike made me happy because he

4:09

didn't love the quarterback summit. Some

4:11

are calling it that the Commanders had not long

4:13

ago when they had team visits for

4:15

more than one quarterback prospect at

4:18

the same time. Apparently Jayden didn't love that.

4:20

And by the way, I totally get

4:22

that. Do you have any reason to

4:24

think that Adam Peters didn't

4:27

make the right pick?

4:29

I think Jaden Daniels was pushing

4:32

Caleb maybe more than some people think.

4:34

I think he's a supreme talent. It

4:36

makes sense to me that Jaden Daniels

4:39

was going to be the second quarterback taking off the board.

4:41

But that quarterback summit that you made a reference

4:44

to, I get

4:46

why you and Jaden Daniels and I'll

4:48

throw myself into the mix. Wouldn't love

4:50

it.

4:50

Wouldn't love that.

4:51

All I would say, though, is everything that

4:53

these guys do for I

4:55

don't know, the last couple years to get to

4:57

this point, which was last night, and being select

5:00

did as one of the top thirty two players

5:02

coming out of this class. You're

5:05

on display and that's a social

5:07

media post. That's how you treat people

5:10

in training table. Just

5:12

because the scouts and all they're doing

5:14

their homework, they're talking to everyone, and

5:16

I can't help but think that there's like a psychological

5:19

test.

5:19

It definitely smacked of a psychology experiment.

5:22

Let's see how you do when other

5:24

people who are vying for your job, your

5:27

pick, your shine are in the

5:29

room with you. I get it. That

5:31

makes sense in a corporate retreat,

5:34

right if we're going to go zip lining out in the

5:36

desert or some such thing. Mike, I

5:38

don't love it for this because I think that these

5:40

men have already been picked over. These young

5:42

men have already been picked over by that point. But

5:45

everybody has their thing. Josh Harris

5:46

has a history of making

5:49

very wise decisions on behalf of

5:51

his companies. This is his company

5:53

now, the Washington Commanders. So you

5:55

know, I'm not gonna I'm not gonna spit in the wind on this

5:57

one.

5:57

But the fact is, it did leak out that a lot of

6:00

guys.

6:00

Were a little perturbed to look around and

6:02

see other quarterback prospects in the room

6:04

with them. But they made it

6:06

good with Jayden Daniels, and hopefully Jayden

6:09

Daniels can make it good for the Washington Commanders.

6:11

Mike Robbs take on this was kind of interesting,

6:13

and he gave this take on this pod in

6:15

anticipation of Jaden Daniels

6:18

going second, he said, look, I know dan Quinn

6:20

quite well, and dan Quinn, in his first

6:22

opportunity as a head coach, was very likely

6:24

scarred by what he saw as limitations,

6:27

yes, even from an MVP quarterback

6:29

in Matt Ryan in that epic

6:32

twenty eight to three reversal in the Super

6:34

Bowl that it was his lack of mobility

6:36

on that key third and nine where he took

6:38

the sack. On a couple of other plays, his lack

6:40

of mobility may have been

6:43

the undoing of that offense and

6:45

that Falcons team in that Super Bowl.

6:47

Mike Robbs said, dan Quinn is not going to make the

6:49

same mistake again. Jaden Daniels has

6:51

mobility, has some range. He is, in

6:53

fact a dual threat quarterback. You suggested

6:56

that he was pushing Caleb Williams. Was Jaden

6:58

Daniels pushing Caleb Williams

7:02

more so and closer than Drake

7:04

May and the other guys were pushing Jaden? Is

7:06

the gap between two and three larger

7:09

than the gap between one and two.

7:11

I think it's a great question. I tend

7:14

to think, and look, we'll never know,

7:17

right because New England ended up taking Drake May.

7:19

Depending on who you talk to, some people like Michael

7:21

Pennix better than Jayden Daniels, like

7:24

Brian Baldinger, whose eyes I trust. I

7:26

don't trust anyone's eyes more than Baldy's. Right,

7:28

Baldy had Michael Penix's number two on

7:30

his quarterback when I think he didn't have

7:32

Jaden Daniels there. So that's the only

7:34

reason why I hedge, because I think it's in

7:37

the eye of the beholder, right, like who likes,

7:39

of course, what skills set. Here's

7:42

what I can tell you on the Michael penixs front, because I actually

7:45

like Mike and I he would have been three

7:47

for me. I actually think, yeah,

7:52

to me, it was those three guys, and then there was a

7:54

gap.

7:54

Okay, Mike expected picks. I think you

7:57

would say and agree at one and two.

7:59

The questions began at three

8:01

last night. A pick many thought would be

8:03

a movable pick, a pick that was for sale,

8:05

considering just how many roster needs the Patriots

8:08

currently have. But the Patriots

8:10

keep the pick. They make the pick, and that

8:12

pick is Drake May, who was quick to say,

8:14

you heard it. I don't want to be the next Tom

8:16

Brady. I just want to be the first Drake May.

8:19

Mike Yam is Drake May a

8:21

prospect, a project or.

8:23

A pro.

8:26

I think he's a prospect.

8:27

Okay.

8:28

I get concerned

8:30

on some of the accuracy issues that we saw

8:32

when we were watching some of the tape.

8:34

Look, the conversation a year ago at this time was

8:36

Caleb Williams, Drake May, Who's going to be the number one pick?

8:39

I think Caleb was in the pole position, never

8:41

lost that spot. Drake did

8:43

drop a touch now not far right because he

8:45

ends up being the third overall pick in the draft. But

8:48

I if it was me, I

8:50

think New England just has a lot of holes on their roster.

8:53

There's a reason why they're picking third overall. I

8:55

just don't know what the appetite was to

8:58

move up. Maybe maybe the Giant

9:01

were interested. I don't know. Maybe

9:03

there was not enough capital for Denver

9:05

to move up. Maybe there wasn't enough

9:07

capital.

9:09

Look, you were doing coverage.

9:10

You were sitting there on the set for the first three

9:12

picks as kind of a hot stand by in case things

9:14

went pair shaped out in Detroit, and

9:17

of course you boss the coverage

9:19

throughout the day and into the night with

9:21

total access. So we

9:25

heard that there were last minute calls. There

9:27

were probably a steady stream calls

9:30

for the last several days to the New England Patriots

9:32

about that third pick, but some obviously

9:35

nobody made an offer that was

9:37

impossible to refuse.

9:38

Yeah, and that's really what it comes down to, and

9:40

maybe that speaks more to the class than

9:42

anything. Although the counter argument is, Mike, we've

9:45

never seen twelve excuse me, six quarterbacks

9:47

going the first twelve picks. So this class

9:49

has got the potential to be there, But I don't I

9:51

would caution anyone. And look,

9:53

I'm telling you, I like Caleb, I like Jade, and I like Michael

9:55

Pennix. The reality is we're not going to know. So

9:58

if you are an NFL fan Tea went

10:00

and drafted bon Nicks, if you're in Denver

10:02

or JJ McCarthy in Minnesota,

10:05

we don't know because where you are

10:07

selected doesn't necessarily

10:10

translate into guaranteed success. And maybe

10:12

Caleb Williams isn't the best quarterback. He might

10:14

be the best prospect, but it might not deliver that

10:16

way. I will say this Caleb bill has

10:19

got is inarguably the best situation of

10:21

all the guys that were drafted in the first twelve.

10:22

Okay, interesting, I have a question about that. You've

10:25

already answered it, but we'll circle back on that. Marvin

10:27

Harrison was taken forth by the

10:29

Cardinals, Marvin Harrison Junor

10:31

Mike Am. I heard someone call this guy a can't

10:34

miss prospect.

10:34

You buy that?

10:36

I think that's fair.

10:37

There's no such thing. Yes, of course, there's no such

10:39

thing.

10:40

But we look for you know, we look

10:42

for strata, and it seems like the elite

10:44

guys, the guys that you can really count on. People

10:46

are saying yes, Caleb, people are saying yes,

10:49

Marvin Harrison Junior.

10:50

Look it's being what's your level of

10:52

risk? Right? And to me, Marvin Harrison is

10:54

less risky based off

10:57

of the evidence. The evidence is look

10:59

at what he's done in scorel well, look at the tape, look

11:01

at how he's matched up against big ten competition

11:04

in big games, and he's

11:06

delivered. So I think there's something to that.

11:08

Same for roma donsday, it's hard

11:10

to take your eyes off of Malik Neighbors

11:12

when he's got the football in his hands, and typically

11:15

no one can chase him down. So I think,

11:18

well, we're all making the best educated guesses

11:20

as possible.

11:21

First O Lineman was off the board at five

11:23

to the Chargers Joe Walt tackle.

11:26

The second LSU Tiger was off the board

11:28

at six to your Giants.

11:31

Malik neighbors Mike and

11:33

Joe Shane. You trust you like this pick?

11:35

Malik neighbors Jersey being shipped as we

11:37

speak to the Yam household.

11:39

It's actually really good idea. I haven't had time to

11:42

place the order on NFL dot com. Look

11:44

I do. I also was in

11:46

the camp and we were debating this

11:49

in the green room while the draft was going on.

11:52

MGD Chase and all of us who were together.

11:54

I was comfortable with the Giants

11:57

not not taking a quarterback.

11:59

In fact, I would have been comfortable

12:02

for them to move down in the draft

12:04

as well. I think there's some holes that needed

12:06

to be filled. We talked about this, what two

12:08

weeks ago, last time I was on the pod with you, So, Hey, what

12:10

are the needs for the g man? I said, Hey, give me a playmaker,

12:12

give me a guy who can be a vertical

12:14

threat. Legitimately, Jalen Hyatt I like, but

12:16

it never really necessarily panned out.

12:18

I think part of the reason is three different quarterbacks

12:21

that the Giants threw out there, whether it was Daniel Jones

12:23

or Tyrod Taylor or Tommy Devido.

12:25

So there, you know, there was some names that

12:27

were that were out there and it

12:29

didn't get done. Malik Neighbors is

12:32

different than anything the Giants have

12:34

had on their roster since

12:36

OBJ. It's probably the closest

12:39

thing that we can point to.

12:40

At seven, the Tennessee Titans take offensive

12:42

Lineman JC Latham trench warfare

12:44

known to do well for the powder Blue

12:46

Boys of Davidson County. Mike we

12:48

said, questions began at three, Well, the crazy

12:51

began at eight. Michael Wow

12:53

Junior, Michael Pennix going eighth

12:56

to the Falcons after Atlanta

12:58

made such a financial commitment to Kirk

13:00

Cousins.

13:01

Now, this one caught many.

13:02

Of us by surprise. Was this a wow

13:05

moment in the green room.

13:07

Let's just say that there was some audible whoa

13:10

that had popped up while we were watching.

13:12

Okay, here's my real question, Mikey and Pennix

13:14

At eight, wise pick or

13:16

wasted pick?

13:17

You asked me this earlier today and I said,

13:19

I don't know where I net out on this, and

13:22

I really do see both sides

13:24

of the equation here.

13:26

Talk to me about the wisdom. What's the wisdom of the pick?

13:28

So I think number first and foremost.

13:30

And obvious, just depth at the position.

13:31

Yeah. So we had sixty eight quarterbacks right

13:33

that started a game last year games last year. Look,

13:36

I just gave you the giant scenario, three different

13:38

guys that were out there. We saw Minnesota trade

13:40

for Josh Dobbs in the middle of the season because

13:42

they were so desperate to get a guy played

13:45

twelve minutes later. Yeah, exactly.

13:47

So if sixty eight starting

13:49

quarterbacks last season doesn't raise a

13:51

red flag to the need for depth at that position,

13:54

I don't know what else would. I

13:57

also think that for Arthur

13:59

Blank and really that organization,

14:02

you're probably a little shell shocked from a transition

14:04

plan that never panned out following Matt

14:06

Ryan and a revolving door at that

14:08

spot. So you say, damn, I don't want to go through this again.

14:11

It's a gettable division. So Kirk

14:13

Cousins, I think for some might be seen as the missing

14:15

piece, and you feel like you could win that division and

14:18

you don't need that game changer at

14:20

eight because you're that confident in

14:22

a new head coach and Raheem Morris who might be able to

14:24

fix some of the defensive issues, and Kirk

14:26

Cousins just elevates what you've picked

14:29

in the top ten the last few years. You're

14:31

also, if you're as good as you think you're going to be,

14:34

you're not going to be picking in the top ten next

14:36

season, right, And.

14:38

Which is probably exactly what Raheem Morris

14:40

did. That was probably his pitch, like, guys,

14:43

we're going to be picking in the twenties and yes even

14:45

in the thirties in the years to come. This

14:47

is probably our last chance for a while at a top

14:49

ten pick. And who knows, maybe like

14:52

you, Mike m maybe

14:54

these guys, maybe Raheem Morris and the

14:56

boys in Atlanta. The people in Atlanta

14:59

had Michael penn as their third rated

15:01

quarterback like you did. And if that's the case

15:03

and he's still available for us at eight

15:06

man, that is hard to go off of. Now let's

15:08

talk about the flip side of the coin, which is that

15:11

they may experience pangs of regret

15:13

as we get closer to what the playoffs.

15:16

Number one Achilles injury for Kirk Cousins

15:19

wasn't exactly the most athletic guy to begin

15:21

with, right, So that becomes a little bit of an

15:23

issue, although you can make an argument not a mob.

15:26

More depth at the position a guy speeding toward forty

15:28

coming off of an acl I'm so glad

15:31

we have Michael Penix. What is the scenario

15:33

in which case the Falcons may look back on this and

15:36

think, maybe we should

15:38

have taken the best available, which wasn't Michael

15:40

Penix.

15:40

So I use it as a pro which

15:43

is the division is gettable,

15:45

yes, and Kirk Cousins can put you over the top.

15:47

Yes. I'll also say this, the

15:49

division is gettable, and the margins in the

15:51

NFL are thinner than we all thin, and

15:54

maybe a game changer at eight

15:57

could be the difference between winning

16:01

that.

16:01

Trying to be the potential hindsight

16:04

regret moment for the Falcons

16:06

if they realized that who they

16:08

could have taken sure might have taken,

16:10

would have taken in a different scenario at

16:12

eight could have been the difference between making

16:14

the playoffs, getting a playoff win, et

16:17

cetera, et cetera. This is all theoretical,

16:19

As you said right at the beginning, Mike m we are

16:21

making educated guesses here these are

16:23

informed opinions.

16:25

You saw the joy in that Falcons war

16:27

room.

16:28

Raheem Morris was They're happy.

16:30

He was stoked, bro that he was glad

16:32

about that pick.

16:32

So clearly they got what they

16:35

believe is a great value at a position of

16:37

great need and obviously no higher

16:39

interest than the position of quarterback in the NFL.

16:41

Can I use my analogy that I told you to do so?

16:44

A couple days ago, as we were getting ready for Total

16:46

Access, Drew Leavy, your esteemed

16:49

host of this podcast, announced

16:51

to the group that he wanted to buy a twenty six thousand

16:53

dollars Rolex. Okay,

16:55

he really didn't. We were just talking about watch people

16:58

and Drew and I don't really know much about watches,

17:00

right, so I have like an.

17:01

Enough a lot of watches.

17:02

We were doing a deep dive on watches, and we couldn't believe

17:04

how expensive some.

17:05

People are watched people that we work with, So they threw

17:07

out some numbers. But think about this, right,

17:09

like I have an do you wear a watch? I don't, Okay,

17:12

I was just gonna say.

17:12

Gracie wishes that I did, because she bought

17:15

me the apple she was pregnant. She bought

17:17

me the Apple Watch Nora gift as

17:19

a corpulsory item. Get

17:21

this on your freaking risk, kid, because I

17:23

have to be able to get hold of you at all times and fair enough

17:25

during her pregnancy in the first year of enery,

17:28

I wore it.

17:29

Now it's off.

17:30

It is the funny thing because if people knew you,

17:32

like and they know you threw this podcast. But I

17:34

actually paused. I was like, Huxtually, I don't think you're

17:36

a watch person in general, like not even any

17:38

type of watch. So I had said to you, hey,

17:41

I have I wouldn't get insurance

17:43

for essentially my fitness watch, right like

17:45

I just I wouldn't.

17:46

It's two hundred bos the insurance cambit.

17:48

But if I had the

17:50

means, and trust me, I do not have the means

17:52

to have a twenty six thousand dollars roll less

17:54

watch, I would probably get insurance.

17:57

That insurance premium is probably

18:00

pretty high for a luxury item like that. Lutely

18:02

and Michael Pennix is insurance

18:05

for your one hundred and million dollar investment

18:07

in Kirk cousins. It is a high premium

18:09

to pay and if you have to cash it out, you're

18:12

gonna be happy that you actually invested

18:14

in that.

18:14

Michael Pennock's one of six quarterbacks taken

18:16

in the first twelve pick six in the first

18:18

round, by the way, ties the all time

18:20

first round draft numbers set back

18:23

in that legendary draft of nineteen eighty

18:25

three.

18:26

Kid On Elway, Oh yeah, that's good.

18:27

Todd Blackledge, Jim Kelly,

18:30

Tony Eason, Ken O'Brien, and

18:32

Dan Marino. Now say what you will about

18:34

the NFL careers of Blackledge,

18:36

Eason, and O'Brien, but

18:38

all three of those guys logged significant

18:42

hours on NFL pitches,

18:44

and of course John Elway and

18:46

Jim Kelly and Dan Marino, those

18:48

six guys all went in the eighty three draft.

18:50

Unbelievable.

18:51

Other records set on the quarterback side

18:53

of things last night. Four in eight that

18:55

was a first. Five quarterbacks and ten

18:57

picks. That was a first, and of course, yes, six

19:00

twelve that was a record.

19:01

Offense.

19:03

All ten of the top ten picks

19:05

were offensive players. In fact, fourteen offensive

19:08

players in a row to start the draft. That

19:10

was a record. Twenty three offensive players

19:12

in all, that was a record in the first

19:14

round. Nineteen was the previous high.

19:17

A pretty astonishing night

19:20

in terms of a real announcement,

19:22

a real declaration of intent from

19:24

NFL front office's quarterback.

19:27

This is a quarterback driven league. Yeah, let's

19:30

expand that definition. This is an offense

19:32

driven league.

19:33

Period.

19:33

Make your peace with it. This is what we love. This

19:36

is why we sit in the seats. This is why we

19:38

watch. We love offense.

19:39

Yeah, it was awesome. Eight offensive tackles,

19:42

by the way, in round number one, that ties a record. The

19:44

seven wide receivers ties a I mean, there's

19:46

the list goes on and on, by the way, I'm

19:48

gonna do this, and I don't mean to do this because this

19:50

is your show, but I'm going to take a hard right turn. I

19:52

am so mad at myself right now because

19:55

you told me earlier this week, you said, hey, can you

19:57

do the pod? And I was like, yeah, of course. And

19:59

I am so ma because my intention was

20:01

to start this podcast by saying Drew Lavy

20:04

happy birthday, oh a couple of days

20:06

ago. And so I'm thinking about the Rolex

20:08

watch and the whole thing. Did you get me a twenty

20:10

six watch from my bad job by

20:12

me? I told you I get you a six pack of Natty Ice as

20:15

a treat and I didn't even do that because of the draft stuff.

20:17

So sorry for the middle of the podcast.

20:19

Tangent here send your love

20:21

and your positive vibes to Drew Lavy.

20:23

Appreciate that very much, far brother.

20:24

After the break of all the big moves on Day one of the draft,

20:26

and there were quite a few in the end, who made.

20:28

The best move? Who won Day

20:30

one?

20:31

That and an angry question

20:33

or two on behalf of NFL fans who may

20:35

not have loved what they saw their team do

20:38

last night or not do last

20:40

night. That's next on NFL Total Access the

20:42

podcast. So you

20:44

are listening to NFL Total Access to podcast

20:47

Andrew LaVey with mikey Am and mikey after what

20:49

they saw or didn't see on Day

20:51

one of the Draft. Some NFL fans have

20:53

concerns, they have questions, You

20:56

have answers. So let's get started.

20:58

Bow next to the Bronco at twelve.

21:01

Desperation or design?

21:03

Oh god, that might be the hardest question

21:05

you asked me on this entire show. I

21:07

go back and forth. I think you know the pr

21:10

spin you know the day

21:12

after the draft is, hey, this is a guy that they wanted

21:14

the entire time. I turned

21:16

to MJD last night during

21:19

the show and I said,

21:21

are the Broncos are

21:23

they disappointed or are they happy right now

21:26

with the fact that they went twelve at Bonnix?

21:28

And he said they were happy because there was no other

21:30

choice for them to make. They needed a quarterback.

21:33

You know, before the Zach Wilson trade, they had five career

21:35

starts in that quarterback room. Jared's didn't have four.

21:37

Zack Wilson's not the answer. It

21:39

goes back to what we talked about with depth at

21:42

the quarterback room. Hell, that Jets team knows

21:44

exactly what I'm talking about.

21:47

You watched a lot of Bonicks. There's a lot of upside

21:49

here. He's twenty four years old. He has a thousand

21:51

starts at the collegiate level. I

21:54

saw a number, In fact, I think we broadcasted

21:57

that number just the.

21:58

Sixty way of all Power five.

22:01

School quarterbacks over the last

22:03

five years, he has the third

22:06

lowest depth of target over

22:08

that five year span amongst Power five quarterbacks.

22:11

So clearly, you know, it doesn't take a genius

22:13

to figure out he's thrown it short, he's thrown

22:15

it accurately, He's getting it out quickly, that's

22:18

something that Sean Payton can work with. We saw

22:20

that from Drew Brees his entire career.

22:22

Thirty percent of his passes at or

22:24

behind the line of scrimmage at Oregon. So

22:28

yeah, it does inflate your completion percentage,

22:30

which was terrific. I think it might have been one

22:32

or two in FBS play the guy.

22:35

The guy's been able to handle two

22:39

different environments in the SECN and PAC

22:41

twelve at Auburn at Oregon,

22:43

he's won games. I

22:47

just hedged just.

22:48

Because, Wow, this is really not a convincing answer,

22:50

Broncos fan. So the question was desperation

22:53

or design, and maybe we can here's

22:55

maybe we can net out here. Tell me if you agree

22:58

that, yes, a little bit of inspiration

23:00

in terms of we desperately need a quarterback.

23:03

The first five guys are off the board. Here

23:05

we are at twelve. Let's take the guy

23:07

that we have as a first round or or

23:10

arguably first round rated guy, and

23:12

we know that Sean Payton's design is

23:14

such that he's going to be able to get the

23:16

best out of Bonis. We have the right quarterback,

23:19

we have the right coach. Rather for any

23:21

quarterback, let's make the move.

23:23

What's the gap between Bonnicks and Spencer

23:25

Ratler Don't I honestly don't like

23:27

to answer.

23:28

That is a very interesting question that we should follow

23:30

up on in the days to come when we get

23:32

some sample size from both of them on

23:34

an NFL field. Let's turn to the next question.

23:37

The QB covetous Raiders were

23:39

unable to move up first round quarterbacks

23:41

were gone by the time they were on the clock. They walk

23:44

away with the highest rated tight end

23:46

in the draft, brock Bowers at

23:48

thirteen. Mike em No QB for Vegas

23:51

on Day one. Missed opportunity or

23:53

accidental genius.

23:55

I love brock Bowers, I really do

23:57

you know. I look at what he was. I

24:00

pointed this out last night on the broadcast. Last

24:03

year's class, according to Daniel Jeremiah, was

24:06

as good of a tight end class as we have ever seen

24:08

before. Brock Bowers would have been the first

24:10

tight end taken off the board in last year's draft.

24:12

He is a ridiculous playmaker

24:15

and I think what's special about him is

24:17

Gardner Minshaw now comes into an offense where

24:19

they needed a little bit of help on the offensive

24:22

side. Bowers. Check

24:24

this out. Do we like Xavier Worthy. Yes,

24:26

okay, do we like Marvin Harrison, Yes, brock

24:29

Bowers one of three.

24:30

Pounds exactly, like for like one guy

24:32

is like, you know, one hundred and thirteen pounds,

24:34

soaking wet. That's that's Xavier Worthy.

24:36

That's my concern about Worthy is that he seems

24:38

little to me.

24:39

Super fill catch up. But yeah, go catch

24:42

him exactly.

24:42

It's a perfect fit.

24:43

Yeah, fair enough.

24:44

So. Brock Bowers is one of three players

24:46

in the Power five to have at least twenty five

24:49

hundred receiving yards and at least twenty

24:51

five receiving touchdowns since twenty

24:53

twenty one. Harrison and Worthy the

24:55

other guys. It's ridiculously good company.

24:57

He is as dynamic a pass catcher

25:00

as there is in this class, and the Raiders

25:02

have been looking for the replacement for Darren

25:04

Waller. I think Gardner Minshew might be the

25:07

happiest guy after round one.

25:08

Translation accidental genius mikey

25:11

Have, the first defensive player doesn't come off the board

25:13

until Laatu Latu is taken at fifteen

25:15

by the Colts. He's such a cult story. He's

25:17

such a cults player. I think he's going to do so

25:20

well in Indianapolis. But let's talk macro.

25:23

Is this an indication of an

25:25

offensive draft or.

25:27

An offensive draft?

25:29

Have we oversteered here on behalf

25:32

of offense?

25:34

It shouldn't have been fifteen picks to get to a defensive

25:36

player. That's that's

25:39

a little real.

25:40

Does that turn the whole second half of Round

25:42

one and a lot of what we're about to see today

25:44

on Day two? Yeah, potential steals

25:46

of the draft because these guys are going lower than

25:48

they should.

25:49

I think they're going to see a run early Round two

25:51

of some really talented defensive guys like kool

25:53

Aid certainly comes to mind as.

25:54

A guy that Rulaide McKinstry, who's.

25:56

Going to have his name called off the board. Here's

25:59

what's really interesting about this. So there's two things

26:01

that that stand out to me about

26:03

what we saw in the first fifteen picks. Michael

26:06

Penix had eight. Tell me the guy

26:09

who did not

26:11

finish seasons four consecutive years

26:14

and was one of the first quarterbacks taken off the

26:16

board top ten pick, that's Michael Pennock. Now he was healthy

26:18

the last two years and he's an aggressive fit.

26:20

Is Mike's absolutely right?

26:21

In twenty eighteen, nineteen twenty

26:23

and twenty one. Those seasons were cut

26:25

short by injury. For Michael

26:28

Pennix. Now he has famously,

26:30

maybe not talked about enough, been injury

26:33

free for the last two seasons,

26:35

but his past does haunt him, at

26:37

least in the in the nerves, the concern

26:39

of anybody who considered drafting him,

26:41

and now of course that is the concern or

26:44

at least something that they will say is not a concern of

26:46

the Atlanta Falcons.

26:47

So he goes eighth overall. Latu

26:49

Latu was medically

26:52

retired, correct told not going

26:54

to play anymore neck injury, worked

26:56

himself back in and he is the first

26:59

defensive player off the board. Now, depending

27:01

on how you talk to he was the best guy. Right.

27:04

I don't want to put words because I've seen so many damn mocks on

27:06

NFL dot Com. I don't remember who's mock is, got

27:08

what, and they all change. But the point is lot

27:11

too on some of them was the first

27:13

or the second player on defense taking

27:15

off the board, and the Colts obviously

27:17

didn't have a problem with it. So to me, it's

27:19

just a little bit of a trend here. Not only is it weird

27:21

with the first fourteen picks being offensive guys,

27:24

but with Lot two on the defensive side

27:26

being a guy coming off of at least you gotta

27:28

be comfortable with the medicals. Got to be comfortable with Pennix's

27:31

medicals, and both those guys top fifteen

27:33

picks.

27:34

Okay, Mike em who gets higher marks for discipline

27:36

on Day one? The Jets or the Cowboys?

27:39

The Jets traded back and chose

27:42

protecting their quarterback over

27:44

arming their quarterback. Or would

27:46

you give this award the discipline

27:48

award for Day one to the Cowboys

27:50

who traded back and chose what

27:52

they needed on offensive lineman

27:54

over what they may have wanted.

27:56

I think the Cowboys get the nod

27:59

because they still get a position of need

28:01

and they just picked up a third round pick, which is seventy

28:04

third overall. You and I had speculated about

28:06

this yesterday. We talked about it again this morning

28:08

before we started recording. You and I same

28:10

wave length. We think running back in that third round?

28:12

Yes, did the Vikings

28:15

overdraft JJ McCarthy at

28:17

ten Or is JJ McCarthy

28:19

the quarterback prospect in the best position

28:21

to succeed considering wide

28:24

receivers? Justin Jefferson Jordan

28:26

Addison and the so called quarterback

28:28

whisperer at head coach Kevin O'Connell.

28:31

The latter, well, maybe about sex.

28:32

I mean you said before, and I think that this is

28:35

what triggered my memory of this question. You

28:37

said before that you think Caleb Williams, based

28:39

on what the Bears have done with that offense, is probably

28:41

in the best position to succeed right away.

28:44

Would you look at this Viking situation

28:47

and call it equally enviable?

28:49

It's kind of a push. Jordan Addison is spectacular,

28:52

justin Jefferson, I would make an argument as the

28:54

best best wide receiver one for me. So

28:57

McCarthy's good in a good spot. Hey,

28:59

we had McCarthy on Total Access. Yes you

29:01

did on Wednesday. Yeah it was Wednesday. I don't

29:04

even know the days of the week. Today's Friday, So Wednesday

29:06

we had him on the show. I went from

29:08

going I don't really know to legitimately happy

29:10

for him, thrilled for you.

29:11

Did you like the kid? Yeah, he loved you, went well, love

29:13

the kid.

29:14

I was like, I really hope he has success. He comes

29:16

off like that. He

29:19

made a comment and it wasn't to us,

29:21

But when I was prepping the interview. I saw we just didn't

29:23

have time to ask him about it. He said he would

29:25

run through a wall for Kevin O'Connell.

29:27

Interesting, hello, I said that. I'm

29:29

like, damn, this dude wants to be there. Joel Klatt

29:32

on our coverage on NFL Network. Now, Joel

29:34

obviously does a ton with Fox on the

29:36

college side. He did a great job last night on

29:38

the desk. Joel said he talked to JJ McCarthy

29:41

a couple days ago and said,

29:43

Hey, to a man, where do you want to go?

29:46

What prospect is going to give you an answer to?

29:48

Yeah, seriously, nobody, nobody since I've worked

29:50

here, has ever given you an answer.

29:52

JJ did.

29:52

He did?

29:53

Look at that, he told Joel power of intention.

29:55

He manifested that man, well

29:57

done, JJ McCarthy. He said, min okay,

30:00

let's talk about the second move that Minnesota

30:03

Vikings made in round one, because, of course, they

30:05

moved from eleven to ten with the Jets to get

30:07

JJ McCarthy at ten. Then

30:09

they made a move from twenty three all the way

30:11

to eighteen to get themselves

30:14

Dallas Turner at eighteen, but rather

30:17

costly a third rounder, a fourth rounder,

30:19

and a fifth rounder. As it stands right now,

30:21

the Vikings only have three picks next year.

30:24

They didn't get any d back help in

30:26

the first round, and this is a secondary

30:28

that claims thirty five year old Harrison Smith.

30:31

So they clearly need to address

30:33

the secondary, which I'm certain that they will do

30:35

today. But the question is did they give up too

30:37

much for Dallas Turner.

30:39

This goes back to something

30:41

that I've talked about with you on and off

30:44

air for a few years. Thirty two

30:46

picks in the first round. Not every

30:48

team has thirty two first round grades

30:51

for players. Yes, so like Minnesota,

30:53

I'm just speculating. I have no idea, obviously,

30:55

I'm just throwing this out there. Minnesota

30:58

might have had let's just call, because

31:00

they picked seventeen, might have had seventeen

31:02

guys available in this draft that were had

31:05

a first round grade. Dallas Turner might

31:07

have been one of those guys. I can't help it likely

31:09

he would have been.

31:10

Right when you look at edge rushers, when you look

31:12

at the defensive guys who are capable of changing

31:14

the game, we talked about Layatu Latu,

31:16

you're probably throwing somebody like a Jared Verse

31:19

on that list. And I think you're throwing Dallas

31:21

Turner on that list as well. Those are probably your top three

31:23

edge rushers.

31:24

Yeah, so what happens here? Colts

31:26

at fifteen, take Lat two, Seattle

31:28

at sixteen, who, by the way, rumber to move up

31:30

to try to get Michael Pennix for whatever that's

31:32

worth, goes defensive tackle Byron

31:34

Murphy. All of a sudden, we get

31:37

the little lower third on NFL Network.

31:39

Oh little trade here, trade. I

31:41

bet Minnesota said, damn, the

31:43

best defensive guy in the draft,

31:46

number one defensive player on our board

31:48

is available at seventeen. We got

31:50

to move up to go and get them. They do, and

31:53

it's the only reason why. Here's why I

31:55

think he was the top defensive guy for them,

31:57

because the cost wasn't cheap.

32:00

It wasn't just swapping. It's

32:02

a third and a fourth round like that third rounder could be

32:04

valuable next year. So I think there was an

32:07

actual decent cost to move up a

32:09

few spots to get Dallas Turner. But I think they

32:11

had Turner arguably as the only

32:14

first round grade graded

32:16

player on their board that was still available.

32:18

I think Mike em illuminates something that's very important

32:21

for us to recognize the listener that if you feel

32:23

like your team has sort of overdone it,

32:25

given up too much for the pick, consider

32:28

what they are saying by the

32:30

deal.

32:31

That they made.

32:32

And I think Mike is absolutely right.

32:34

The Vikings are telling us with

32:36

the hall that they gave for

32:38

Dallas Turner at eighteen, that Dallas

32:41

Turner was the highest or one

32:43

of the highest rated defensive players

32:45

they had on their board. And as we've

32:47

heard for years in this business, if your guys

32:49

available, do whatever.

32:51

You have to do to get him.

32:53

Bengals fans Mike em are nervous that their

32:55

first round pick, offensive tackle A Marius

32:57

Mims, had fewer than ten college starts,

33:00

only eight.

33:00

I believe Mims is a big boy,

33:03

but was this too much of a big risk?

33:07

Largest hands of any player at the Combine this

33:09

year?

33:09

Is that true?

33:10

Yeah? It is.

33:10

He's got like catchers Mitz.

33:12

Yeah, eleven in a quarter. Jesus,

33:14

what what? Like?

33:16

What is that? He's six seven

33:19

and three quarters three hundred and forty pounds?

33:21

Let's round up, he's six eight six.

33:23

' eight three forty. MJD says he's

33:25

bigger than three forty third player

33:27

at the Combine since two thousand and three to

33:29

be at least six seven and

33:31

three and at least three hundred and forty pounds

33:33

with larger than eleven inch hands.

33:35

He's enormous.

33:36

The other yeah, the other guy, Dwan Jones

33:38

and then Herman Johnson.

33:40

Does he pair that monolithic

33:42

size with NFL

33:45

skill set in terms of fast feet,

33:47

in terms of speed to power. I realize

33:49

that's a defensive end kind of thing, but he needs

33:51

it at the offensive tackle position because that's

33:54

who he's facing. Is he a nimble enough

33:56

guy to make this worth it? At six

33:58

eight three.

33:58

Forty here's my guess. This is just a guess.

34:01

Your guess is yes, The guess is yes. My

34:03

guest too, though, is the scouts

34:05

were like, hey, this is pretty unique

34:08

the coat, but but some

34:11

concerns just about reps and can

34:13

you do it. The coaches looked

34:15

at that and said, well, damn, I can't teach

34:18

that. We're drafting them. We'll fix

34:20

the other stuffs. That's just my guest here,

34:22

and I think he's going to be a stuff.

34:23

Somebody probably said, look, this guy has Trent

34:26

Williams upside, and that probably sealed

34:28

the deal.

34:28

Bills Lose gave.

34:30

Davis and Stefan Diggs in the offseason,

34:32

and then they trade back twice

34:34

instead of grabbing a replacement target.

34:36

In round one, they allowed their arch

34:39

nemesis Chiefs to take a wide

34:41

receiver at twenty eight, Xavier Worthy,

34:43

and then they allow the Panthers to take yet another

34:45

wide receiver off the board at thirty

34:47

two Xavier Leget beyond

34:50

having a team rule against Xaviers

34:53

on their roster. Does this make sense

34:55

to you?

34:56

Yes and no. If it was anyone but

34:58

Kansas City they were trading with, that'd be like, Yeah,

35:00

sure. I was joking with

35:02

Chasing MJD last night. I said, Man, if

35:04

I'm Buffalo, I put out on my social media

35:06

account when I get the call from Kansas City. Hey,

35:08

guys, just got a call from the Chiefs.

35:11

Anyone else want this pick because we're about to do it?

35:14

Like what? There should be a rule

35:16

you should never like, No one should trade

35:18

with the Chiefs in the first round.

35:20

Certainly, not the Bangals, certainly, not the Bills, certainly

35:22

not anybody in that AFC, the Ravens,

35:24

none.

35:25

Of you are allowed to trade with the Chiefs, and the Bills did

35:27

bro.

35:27

This dude is gonna be sprinting past your defense.

35:30

The fastest dude ever at the

35:32

combine, He's he's Tyreek

35:34

Lights. This is the perfect fit. I

35:37

honestly damn like

35:40

if you would have said to me.

35:41

So, if you're a Bills fan and you're pissed off

35:43

today, you're saying, I get

35:45

it, I feel your pain.

35:47

I'm more pissed. If I'm a Bills fan, I'm

35:49

more I'm not pissed off about moving

35:51

back, Like you're still gonna you're probably gonna

35:53

get like n and I Mitchell first pick a round

35:56

two. It's probably you're gonna get your wide receiver

35:58

and you got some assets for it. Fine, I

36:00

don't have a problem if I'm a Bills fan moving back.

36:02

I just don't want to do business with

36:05

Kansas City and you literally

36:07

they literally have the fastest dude in

36:09

the NFL on their well, Damn, I don't

36:11

know. Tyree's pretty damn fast. Look forty times

36:13

aside, and that's what we're gonna go off of you.

36:15

The guy ran the fastest forty time and

36:18

he's playing with Patrick Mahomes. That

36:20

would scare the Bejesus out of me.

36:22

Did the Niners acquisition of Ricky pearsol

36:24

at thirty one signal a potential

36:27

move long rumored for Brandon

36:29

Ayuk.

36:30

Niners fans on the whole want to keep

36:32

Ayuk.

36:33

Did the Rickey Pearsall move at thirty

36:35

one signal that we may see Brandon

36:37

Ayuk on the move today?

36:39

Two days ago, I was a guest on a San Francisco

36:41

radio station and I was like, yeah, they ain't trading him.

36:44

They have a track record of drafting guys,

36:46

developing guys, paying guys. They always pay

36:48

them pretty close to the start of the season, but

36:50

the damn del always gets done. I

36:52

am now thinking when they drafted

36:55

Piersaw, I'm like, ooh, that ain't

36:57

a good sign. And look, at some

36:59

point you can't pay everyone right, Like there's

37:01

restrictions on some of the stuffs. And I can't

37:04

help but think they're thinking, Hey, Brandon Ayuk, sorry

37:06

dude, love you, we just can't

37:09

pay you with what you're worth and

37:11

for what it's worth. He got drafted

37:13

in the first round in twenty twenty with the

37:16

twenty fifth overall pick. Peirsfell

37:18

goals thirty one. Maybe they strike

37:20

gold again.

37:21

Our tech in the room today. Sam is a Patriots

37:23

fan. He likes Drake May at three

37:25

he wants Brandon Ayuk. The Commander's

37:28

fan on the mic also wants Brandon Ayuk.

37:30

So if this kid is on the move, I'll

37:33

be very interested to know where he lands.

37:35

Sam, I'm sorry, I actually don't think he's going to New England.

37:37

I think the leader in the clubhouse to me is

37:40

we'll see how much power Jaden Daniels has

37:42

and can wield. But those two dudes

37:44

are boys. They played together at ASU.

37:47

Wasn't a long time. I think it was one season, Yeah, crossover.

37:49

But the point is, like they're legitimately

37:52

tight and friends. I

37:54

can't help but think Jayden's in that front

37:57

office going, Yo, get my guy, get my guy.

37:59

Who did the best business on Day one,

38:01

Mike after the final name was called,

38:03

who sat back and said like fat Amy

38:06

and pitch Perfect crushed it.

38:09

Happiest, happiest front office is

38:11

Chicago, and only

38:13

because of who they got and didn't have to make any moves.

38:16

But I think, for in the spirit

38:18

of draft day, which is Yo, it's

38:20

like a fantasy draft, let's make some moves here Minnesota.

38:23

I give them a ton of credit to trades, move

38:25

up, do it with purpose. Pay

38:27

some purpose is a phrase we use around here. They

38:30

look they moved up the one spot. Daniel

38:34

Jeremiah said it during the draft

38:36

when Pennix goes off the board. He said, when

38:39

the Jets started being on the clock, he goes,

38:41

if I'm Minnesota, I'm picking up the phone.

38:43

It's not going to cost you much just to flip flop.

38:45

You're going to take a quarterback. We knew the Jets weren't going

38:47

to take one move up. They got their guy. I give them

38:50

a lot of respect they get JJ. But the

38:52

shrewd move to me is the Dallas Turner.

38:54

You got arguably the best defensive

38:57

player in this draft, moving

38:59

up a couple and get him at seventeen. You

39:01

saw your guy, you wanted the guy, You

39:03

got your guy.

39:04

Translation skull

39:06

and finally, looking ahead to Day two, which

39:08

is about to start right after we record this

39:11

recap of Day one, Mike,

39:13

as we said before, no running backs, no safeties,

39:15

no linebackers heard their names on Day one.

39:17

What position group maybe not one

39:19

of those three, maybe one of those three. What position

39:22

group is destined to dominate day two?

39:27

I still think there's a run of wide receivers still

39:29

to come. I mean, I really do. I think

39:32

there's like a second and.

39:33

It's that deep.

39:34

This wide receiver class really is that deep, Daniel

39:36

Jeremiah said. He said it rather

39:38

flippantly, and then it became kind of like a formalized

39:41

way of addressing the depth of this wide

39:43

receiver class. He said, Look under your chair, there

39:45

is a viable wide receiver available

39:47

to just about everybody. So a run

39:49

on wide receivers. I assume we're going to see

39:52

a few dbs off

39:54

the board. Look, we're going to see if few have everything off

39:56

the board, but wide receiver may actually

39:59

win the day. Ording to Mike m as

40:01

a Giants fan, what do you still

40:03

want? It will be as successful remaining

40:06

two days of the draft if your Giants do

40:08

what.

40:09

I can't help but think with the forty seventh pick,

40:11

there's something in my mind that says, hey, let's

40:14

double, we'll see what the offensive line players

40:16

look like. I don't know who would be available, that's

40:18

still something I would keep an eye out for. And

40:21

then who do you think the best running back is?

40:24

Because I think you start to get into

40:26

that range where you go, oh maybe

40:28

I think Johnathan. I think basically all at forty

40:31

seven, I think all the running backs are still going

40:33

to be available, so you have your pick at maybe

40:35

the best running back or maybe

40:40

they look if Lad McConkie's still available,

40:43

I don't think he is at that point because I'm

40:45

talking about all these wide receivers. I still think D tackles

40:47

could also go early in Day two, like

40:49

those would be D tackle and wide receivers

40:51

are the runs that I think we're going to see. But you

40:54

know, it's not necessarily a need right now for the g Men.

40:57

So if McConkie's available, I'd love that. Or

40:59

take your pick.

41:00

On the best running back, A double dip at wide

41:02

receiver for the Giants, that could be very very

41:04

interesting.

41:05

Listener, keep in mind that we have concluded.

41:08

We're about to conclude this record before

41:10

the first pick is made in day two,

41:13

but a couple things to keep in mind. The Packers have four

41:15

picks on day two, that's rounds two

41:17

and three. My commanders have five, more

41:20

than anybody else. No one else has

41:22

more than three picks at least currently

41:24

before the day begins on day two

41:26

rounds two or three. I want to

41:28

thank today's very special guest, Mike.

41:30

I am.

41:30

You have a lot of You got a lot of work to do today?

41:33

Do you love this time of year?

41:34

Dude? The best?

41:35

You know.

41:35

I was just about to tease you and say, work, Are you kidding

41:38

me that I got to check that clears every two weeks

41:40

to go and talk football and watch this stuff. This is honestly,

41:43

these are some of my favorite days of the year. The shows

41:46

are so much fun and so honestly to

41:48

do this with you, let's roll, man, this is great.

41:50

I think the layers of experience

41:52

that we hear about and that we watch very

41:54

closely from this really cool, this very advantageous

41:57

position that we have of NFL roster

41:59

building, of NFL team building.

42:01

It's really taken on a life of its

42:03

own in my eyes, because

42:06

it used to just be a player here, a player

42:08

there.

42:09

No Now, I realize that you've got to take into

42:11

account the past, the present, the

42:13

future, the cap all

42:15

of these things, all of the things that everybody

42:17

is worried about in these NFL front offices. Listener,

42:20

And it's easy to judge. It is so easy

42:22

to say I don't love that position, I

42:25

didn't like that player. And yet I

42:27

think we do ultimately have to trust

42:29

in these days that our

42:32

people in our front offices, our coaches,

42:34

our gms, our owners, they're

42:36

leaning against the same wheel. They have

42:39

hopefully an agenda that has agreed upon.

42:42

They have a draft board of players that they

42:44

like and trust, and they're going to make informed

42:46

decisions as you told us at the very beginning of

42:48

this, and if that goes as planned, then

42:50

we're going to hopefully be better than we were yesterday.

42:53

No question. Look at look this is fun, right,

42:55

Like I think anyone who's listening to this podcast, like

42:57

you love the draft too, and you maybe have your

42:59

own mox. The only other thing that I would add to

43:01

this conversation, we are really lucky

43:03

because we got Daniel Jeremiah

43:05

Lancer. Aligned certainly comes to mind because the

43:08

two dudes a Chad Bucky. Look,

43:10

there's a did a seven round

43:12

mock the other day. I got to tell you, like, we

43:14

to be around these dudes. Lance

43:17

came into our green room yesterday and he just

43:19

starts name checking. I mean, our guys were

43:21

like, like, the amount of homework and research

43:24

I'm telling you, like, we get access to DJ's

43:26

stuff before it even hits It

43:28

really is impressive. I'm in truly

43:30

in awe of the minds that

43:33

these guys have to be able to retain

43:35

three hundred, close to three hundred names right

43:37

that are out there. We get a research

43:39

backet that's about three hundred names thick.

43:42

You know this year, I'm doing TA the last couple of years on

43:44

our fast channels. I've done every single pick

43:46

of the draft the last two years, and

43:48

there's been times and it doesn't happen often because our research

43:51

team is phenomenal. Two or three names aren't

43:53

even in the packet. Lance just

43:56

knows the dude starts going through it. I'm like, Holy

43:58

mother, are you kidding? Honestly,

44:01

it's if you're a draft fan our

44:04

crew, man, I can't say enough good things about the work

44:06

that they do.

44:06

With the first pick.

44:07

In the twenty twenty four NFL Total

44:09

Access Podcasts Guest Draft,

44:12

I select Mike Yam.

44:14

Thank you so much for your time today, Michael.

44:15

Jam Oh, so much fun. Enjoy

44:18

the draft, and.

44:21

I want to invite the listener to join us next time for a

44:23

complete recap of the entire three

44:26

days, the two hundred and fifty seven picks, the

44:28

seven rounds over three days, Oh

44:31

my goodness, gracious, thirty two teams. One

44:33

question, who won the twenty

44:35

twenty four NFL Draft. You know what, we can't

44:37

just keep it as one question. We're going to ask a bunch

44:39

of questions about the best picks, the bust picks,

44:41

who drafted themselves into contention, who

44:43

drafted themselves into greater confusion,

44:46

and yes, who did win the twenty twenty four

44:48

NFL Draft other than us, the

44:51

viewers. Thank you so much for listening today.

44:53

Till next time, show fan now. NFL
