A full-cast urban fantasy story told through the format of a fictional investigative podcast of a man exploring conspiracies in his city, including a missing person's case and the secrets behind a megacorp's super soldier program, in an alternate universe where magic used to be commonplace but suddenly vanished. The story tackles ideas of wanting to improve the world despite feeling helpless, in-universe prejudice (somewhat akin to that against Marvel mutants), and self-discovery. The main character is a determined investigator and is given the runaround on several occassions, but through persistence manages to make connections including supersoldiers and the head of the bio-engineering at the megacorp. As the story progresses mysteries unfold and the main character becomes more able to use his investigations to help others. There are points where I run into one of my biggest problems with the mockumentary conceit and find myself asking 'why would someone ever publicly share something so personal and incriminating including proof of multiple crimes?', but it's mostly not too distracting, is sometimes addressed in the plot, and the reveals of information work otherwise.
binged all the episodes that are currently out and I LOVE ITamazing characters, interesting plot, great voice acting and so much queer rep (which I, as a fellow queer person, require lmao)not very constructive review but hey you can trust me and give it a listen - it won't dissapoint!
Truly the best way to describe this is "d*mmit, Seb". This podcast causes me so much stress, which I suppose is the best testament to it's writing, worldbuilding and overall vibe. I care about the characters so much that I have shouted no into the ether outside in public.
Amazing. I’m sitting at the edge of my seat for the next season.
Really great world building so far for a unique modern fantasy. It's kind of a mix of magic and superheroes. Cool mysteries and great representation with a full cast and pretty good production quality!
So happy to have found this podcast/ full cast AD. It took a full episode plus to totally get my buy in but I am totally hooked now. Audio quality is well above above average, the acting is believable for the genre. The world in this docudrama is reminiscent of a dark comic book with fantasy vibes. It doesn't overwhelm with too much info too soon, just enough so you don't feel lost. The mystery/intrigue is subtle. It has all of my favorite characteristics. It is definitely worth a listen!
Phenomenal audio work! A treat for your ears :) the world of the podcast is one almost like our own, but just a step or two to the left, making for highly entertaining listening as we (and Seb) learn the secrets of Echor City. I'm very excited to see where season two takes us!
I adore this podcast. A compelling story, a relatable main character, great voice acting, and hour long episodes. Loads of queer rep that isn't built around the story. It's just a part of the world. I wish ther was more like this one.
