What's up, SuperNinfrendos? This is

0:10

Nintendo Voice Chat, Episode 677. I

0:14

have returned from Germany safely,

0:16

healthfully, which isn't really a word. I

0:18

am joined here today by

0:20

the Sniffly industry legend, Cat Bailey.

0:23

Hello, everybody. Not Sniffly right

0:25

now, hanging in there. There's so much news

0:27

to cover. There's so much news. That's

0:30

why we have a news-heavy panel

0:32

this week. From the Northwest,

0:35

the man who shared the same breath

0:37

as Doug Bowser, Logan Plank. Wow. Hi,

0:40

Seth. That's a weird way to put it, but yeah, I guess it's true. Look,

0:42

I have to do this on the fly, right? Boom, boom, boom,

0:44

boom, boom. And then wearing a bomb-ass jacket,

0:47

Red Valentine. I mean, technically, we're

0:49

all breathing the same air as, I don't

0:52

know, dinosaurs? We're drinking

0:55

dinosaurs all the time.

0:58

Yep. We're going to duel our

1:00

cars. That is a bomb-ass jacket, I have to say. Thank

1:02

you so much. It's really diggin' it. Thrift

1:04

stores. San Francisco thrifting great. There

1:06

you go. Look at Rebs. Yeah, thank

1:08

you. Look at that, man. Got the early, rocking the

1:10

early 90s. I'm into it. Oh, yeah.

1:12

Bring it, bring in the heat. I love

1:14

it a lot. But you know what happened this week? Everything.

1:17

Everything happened three times between when

1:20

we planned the show and when the show happened.

1:22

So I actually did two different art requests,

1:24

which nobody cares about. That's

1:27

all insider baseball. But yeah, guess what?

1:29

I was at Gamescom in Germany, and apparently

1:32

I was breathing the same air as

1:34

the Nintendo Switch successor.

1:37

I don't think that breathes, but okay.

1:38

Didn't you read

1:40

the report? It's got like a new patented lung

1:42

system. The next

1:45

one's going to have gills. I have to say,

1:47

that would be a very Nintendo move. It

1:50

breathes. It's alive. It's just

1:52

a slow and steady heartbeat to sort

1:54

of like lowly. That's where the vitality sensor

1:56

went. It went into the Switch too. Oh,

1:59

it's like one of those. Baby dolls from

2:01

like the the 90s where they were trying to make them really

2:03

lifelike where they're like like some of them

2:05

are Warm or some of them like cry randomly

2:07

or like they eat and then they poo or whatever It's

2:11

gonna be like that. So

2:12

yeah, no, and that's what the Eurogamer Which

2:15

a successor poo exactly? Yeah But

2:18

no, I guess yeah Eurogamer reported

2:20

that the Swiss switch successor

2:22

was being shown behind closed doors

2:24

at Gamescom where I

2:26

was and I was not behind any of those

2:29

closed doors, obviously Apparently

2:31

this was sort of a like an industry thing like

2:33

let's show our partners this cool

2:36

new hardware They were supposedly playing

2:38

a souped-up version of Breath of the Wild whatever

2:40

that means And apparently

2:42

and this is where I'm a little bit I'm

2:45

a little skeptical that the the visuals

2:47

were comparable to the series X

2:50

and PS 5 now I just have

2:52

a hard time accepting that in a in a portable

2:55

form factor, but Nintendo

2:57

Nintendo does interesting things but

2:59

cat you're always on the news beat

3:02

like 24 hours a day No, you're all

3:04

on the news beat, but I'm just I just want to talk cat

3:07

There

3:10

are a lot of rumors that have been floating around

3:13

with the Nintendo switch we've heard a lot of things

3:15

to over at IGN com

3:19

I will say

3:21

Reading these reports by Eurogamer

3:23

and VGC the thing that stands

3:25

out to me Is that the Nintendo switch

3:28

to or successor or whatever they

3:30

end up calling it? stands to be

3:33

far more powerful than I expected Nintendo

3:36

has always been much more about Reasonable

3:41

price points being able to play

3:44

a wide variety of games But

3:46

explicitly not being

3:48

all that focused on power

3:51

so this raises to me a lot

3:53

of questions about things like battery

3:56

life and Screen fidelity

3:59

and things like that if Nintendo is

4:01

truly creating a premium handheld

4:03

experience, what does this say about Nintendo

4:05

going forward? What does this say about Nintendo's

4:08

evolution as a company? It does seem

4:11

very different from the Nintendo that

4:13

we knew in the era of

4:15

Iwata. If it's true that it

4:17

was indeed playing the Matrix,

4:20

oh,

4:21

the Matrix Unreal Engine 5 demo, that

4:24

is very impressive and very surprising.

4:26

Yeah. I think so.

4:30

It is surprising. I don't disagree with you.

4:32

I think it's maybe slightly less surprising

4:34

in the context of Nintendo

4:37

has

4:38

discovered over the last couple of generations

4:40

of hardware that they

4:42

really do need to make sure that

4:45

whatever they are making, however interesting or

4:47

inventive it is, it needs to be up

4:49

to developer expectations or they are

4:51

going to lose developers. We saw that in the

4:53

Wii U era, where a lot of

4:56

developers, third parties specifically, were not on board

4:58

because the Wii U was

5:00

just a pain in the butt to develop for. It

5:02

had that extra screen, it had lesser capabilities

5:04

than the other consoles on the market. All

5:08

developers have different opinions on the Switch. A lot of indies

5:10

I've spoken to really like it

5:12

as an indie machine, but also a lot of developers

5:14

I've spoken to are less enthused about the

5:17

Switch at this stage in its life cycle. It's

5:19

a great system. They like playing on it, but it's

5:21

butts to develop for because it's kind of behind

5:23

the other major consoles and

5:25

it's got kind of all these other weird twisty

5:28

turny bits to it. And again,

5:31

opinions vary based on developers, but I do

5:33

think it would make sense for there to

5:35

be a renewed focus in whatever the next generation

5:37

happens to be and making sure that technologically

5:40

it is roughly on par with

5:42

the series X and S and the

5:44

PS5 because developers are gonna

5:46

be developing for those things for a very, very, very

5:49

long time if the current trajectory of the

5:51

PS4 and the Xbox

5:55

One are any indication. Okay.

5:57

Yeah, I wouldn't expect like, I wouldn't expect

5:59

native. 4K, maybe something upscaled, and that's

6:01

where you're getting the visuals that look on par with the

6:03

modern consoles. But yeah, I don't think we're going

6:06

to see the beefy performance

6:08

of the Series X and PS5. But I

6:10

think a concern that I'll bring to the

6:12

table with this is that when Nintendo jumped

6:15

to HD with the Wii U, it took them

6:17

years to learn how to develop in HD and

6:19

the cadence of game releases just slowed

6:22

to a crawl for a long time. And then

6:24

they got into that rhythm at developing at 720 or

6:27

1080p on Switch. So now if we're jumping up

6:29

again, I think that's maybe why we're seeing

6:31

more ports and remakes right now, why we haven't

6:34

seen a new 3D Mario, maybe where Metroid

6:36

Prime 4 is at. I think they're probably working on this

6:38

new hardware. So hopefully they don't repeat that

6:40

same mistake again with this leap forward and hardware

6:43

if it's true.

6:44

Well, I mean, it's just adjust the sliders.

6:46

That's all it takes. Yeah, push the 4K button. Why aren't you

6:48

pushing the 4K button? No,

6:52

Reb, you mentioned how some indie developers

6:54

like it. Now, when we were at Gamescom,

6:56

we went into the indie section. I like

6:58

pair pointed it out like 90% of the games there

7:02

and there were like maybe a thousand

7:05

indie games

7:06

were running on Switch were developed on

7:08

Switch and the other 10% were on

7:11

Steam. So yeah, it's a massive,

7:13

wonderful indie machine. But I

7:16

don't know as we're talking about it, I'm

7:18

realizing now the Xbox

7:21

Series X and the PlayStation 5 came out

7:23

almost three years ago. So

7:26

maybe it's not too far outside the realm

7:28

of possibility. I mean, we've only been

7:30

able to get those consoles like easily

7:33

in the last like eight months. But

7:35

yeah, that's maybe not that

7:37

far fetched. And then you have the Asus

7:40

Raj ally, which is just a handheld

7:43

Windows computer, which is like $700. And you

7:46

get the Steam Deck, which saw its first

7:49

ever price drop, which is way more powerful

7:51

than the you

7:53

know, that thing that we were all talking about the Nintendo

7:55

Switch. Yeah, the handheld gaming is

7:58

coming out swinging.

7:59

So I've already changed my mind during

8:02

the

8:03

course of this conversation that maybe it

8:05

could be running.

8:08

I know. I think Xbox Series S

8:10

is a better marker than the Series

8:12

X. I agree. Yeah. The

8:15

PS5 with the Switch successor.

8:18

I think the thing that

8:20

I am worrying, not worrying, wondering

8:23

about now is price point battery

8:25

life mostly. No, that's

8:28

totally valid. This

8:31

is a minor concern. I wonder how

8:33

heavy it is because my big

8:37

disinterest in the Steam Deck right now

8:39

is that thing's too darn heavy. I've held it. I

8:41

don't want to keep holding it. I have

8:43

little hands and sensitive baby rider

8:46

wrists, and I don't want to pick it up. But

8:49

the Switch is so nice and light, and I don't play portable

8:51

very often. But when I do, I like something that's

8:53

a little more like a Game Boy. But if you try to cram

8:56

too much video game in there and maybe get

8:58

a little too heavy, too many graphics in there.

9:00

All those graphics are really heavy.

9:02

And no, given the choice when

9:04

I'm traveling, I will pack the Switch because it's

9:07

just a little guy to deal with than the

9:09

Steam Deck. The Steam Deck's like a weapon.

9:11

You could just smash somebody over

9:14

the head with it. It's a monster.

9:17

Yeah, I'm waiting for someone to sue because they were laying

9:19

in bed playing it above their head and accidentally dropped

9:22

it and hit them in the head, and they got a bruise or something.

9:24

In a survival situation, you can attach a stick.

9:27

You can actually use it and hatch it. That's

9:29

what Link would do. That's what Link would do in Tears of

9:31

the Kingdom. Yeah, the brilliance

9:34

of Nintendo going back to the Wii and

9:36

the brilliance of Iwata was understanding

9:38

that they were catering to a mainstream audience.

9:41

They weren't necessarily catering to the hobbyists.

9:43

The hobbyists and the hardcore were

9:45

always a nice to have as

9:48

much as anything, but they were explicitly

9:50

going for people who may

9:53

have felt like they aged out of games, but wanted

9:55

to rediscover a sense of wonder when they were playing

9:57

Animal Crossing. Fair

10:00

or not, there is this sort

10:02

of feeling, I guess, among

10:05

mainstream people, normal

10:08

people, you might say, who

10:10

feel like gaming is a quote unquote identity

10:12

or a lifestyle and instinctively

10:15

seem to shy away from

10:17

hardcore gamer devices

10:19

like the Roche ally or

10:21

the Steam Deck and that kind of thing. And

10:23

the

10:24

cool thing about the Switch is that it's always been

10:26

kind of

10:27

friendly, approachable, something

10:30

that a person who doesn't normally

10:32

game might feel okay about

10:34

picking up and playing on and off. And

10:37

I think will

10:39

the Switch successor be able to harness

10:42

that or will it go in more

10:44

of a direction of a Steam Deck? If it

10:47

does go in more of a direction of a Steam

10:49

Deck, I think that's a mistake. Yeah,

10:52

I don't really will. I think that Nintendo's

10:54

very family first. I think that they have

10:56

doubled down on that in the Switch era. And I think

10:59

that to Reb's concerns about it being too heavy

11:01

or uncomfortable, I'm not personally worried about

11:03

that. I think that they care

11:05

about feel more than any of the other hardware

11:07

manufacturers. And I think that they're going to come out

11:10

with something that is a little more powered up

11:12

to satisfy people who have been unhappy

11:14

with the Switch's performance in the last few years. But I

11:16

think it'll still be. Oh, you mean babies who

11:19

cry all the time? Where?

11:20

I would add to that,

11:23

though. I think that we're I don't

11:25

know if Nintendo will do this or believes

11:28

this, but personally, I think that we

11:30

are reaching a point where those

11:34

two things don't have to be mutually exclusive, the

11:36

catering to more hardcore gamers and also

11:39

catering to the like a more mass market.

11:41

Gaming is becoming a more mainstream hobby

11:44

every single year. People who grew up with games

11:46

are now adults having children. Nintendo

11:48

knows this very well based on Pokemon Go

11:50

and many other things. So you

11:53

can almost wear in

11:56

the era of the Wii, you did want something that was a little

11:58

more approachable for people who had never touched.

11:59

a video game before and now we've got

12:02

Wii Sports and Nursing homes. I

12:04

think now you can actually be okay

12:07

being a little more gamer-y with

12:09

something and having it still reach the same

12:11

sizable mass market audience that Nintendo

12:14

consoles have always aimed

12:17

for. Just because more people are familiar with games,

12:19

more people are comfortable with them, maybe they're not hardcore

12:22

Steam Deck users, but

12:24

they're a little less terrified by

12:27

looking at numbers that suggest how

12:29

good

12:29

the graphics are or plugging certain

12:32

kinds of cables into other certain kinds of things.

12:34

Like, you know, people are a little more chill about that now

12:37

and they understand what it means. Yes,

12:39

but I know that when

12:41

Netflix was testing all of its gaming,

12:44

they

12:44

discovered that

12:47

the reason that they went in the direction

12:50

of using a smartphone device

12:52

is that people are actively scared

12:55

of controllers. They

12:57

saw them as signifiers

13:00

of a gamer lifestyle, whatever that means.

13:02

There is this weird sort

13:05

of stigma

13:06

still against quote unquote

13:09

hardcore gamers. I also want to point out that

13:11

Nintendo seems like

13:13

a very different company

13:15

in some ways than it was. No, I agree. Certainly

13:18

when the Nintendo Switch was being developed. And

13:21

I think that you only need to point to

13:23

what they did with the Super Mario Brothers movie

13:26

or the opening of the theme park to show that

13:29

Nintendo is becoming

13:31

maybe a little more conventional in

13:33

the way that it approaches its individual

13:36

brands and everything. And

13:38

so maybe that will also be the case

13:41

with the Switch successor, maybe it will be more

13:44

conventional, more of a gamer device.

13:47

And we would come to expect from Nintendo. I

13:49

don't think you're wrong. And I'm not going to argue that point,

13:51

because I do think the controller thing is spot on, especially

13:54

based on conversations I've had recently with people

13:56

who are like, I guess more non traditional gamers. But

13:59

I will say

14:00

I think just based on

14:02

anecdotes, I think more people

14:05

are playing and talking about something

14:07

like the Steam Deck than are playing and talking about

14:09

Netflix games. Wow. True

14:11

that. You can't even find

14:14

Netflix games. I don't know where they are. I don't

14:16

know. Where are they? Because of the

14:18

controller choice necessarily. I don't think it's on that.

14:21

Yeah. Well,

14:23

all right.

14:24

Here's my question then to

14:26

each and every one of you. Where

14:29

do you think the price is going to land

14:31

and where do you think it needs

14:33

to land to be a success? Cat, what do you

14:35

think? Oh, God. The

14:39

switch is like what, $350? For

14:42

the OLED. Yeah. That's

14:45

the OLED, right? I don't think you can go. Yeah, I don't

14:47

think you can go up. I think it'd be challenging

14:49

to go up to 400. Okay. But

14:53

inflation, that kind of thing. Yeah.

14:57

I think $350 is probably the sweet spot. Okay.

15:00

Logan, what about you? I'd like it to be $350. I

15:02

think it hits $400. I think that they'll

15:04

still come in under the PS5 and Series

15:07

X, but yeah, I don't know. They're still

15:09

probably going to be selling the OLED. They don't really price

15:11

drop their systems. So yeah, I think they

15:13

have $400. It's true. I mean, they might cut the price

15:15

of the OLED to like $300

15:17

and the original release of the switch

15:19

to like $250 and then put the new console

15:22

at $350. But yeah, I can see $400 as well. Yeah.

15:25

I think we hit 400, but

15:27

I think we hit 400 with an asterisk of some kind. I

15:32

don't know what that looks like. Maybe it's a price

15:34

drop on the OLED and a promise

15:36

that

15:37

you can play all the same games on both up

15:40

to a certain point. Like, I mean, maybe

15:42

brand new games won't be, but like

15:44

we still have like

15:47

the promise that like the OLED continues to be supported long

15:49

term or something like that. And then the price drops. Another

15:52

option I think would be for them to release

15:54

a system at 400 and then also reveal

15:58

or discuss or other

15:59

otherwise

16:01

show off a light version,

16:03

like a Switch Lite version of a Switch Lite 2 that

16:06

is cheaper. I'm

16:09

a little more skeptical that they would do something like

16:11

that just because it took them a little bit longer

16:13

to release the Switch Lite. But

16:15

I think whatever it is,

16:18

it's hard to get all the things that they are describing

16:21

into a system that is not more expensive, but

16:24

I don't think Nintendo can come out with a $400 system and

16:27

not have an option for budget people of

16:29

some kind.

16:29

That is exactly where

16:32

I am at. I think $400 is where the

16:34

new Switch is or

16:36

whatever the Nintendo console is gonna be.

16:39

And I also still think that

16:41

a lot of the graphical processing power is going

16:43

to be in the dock and they will offer a dockless

16:46

version

16:47

for like $299 or $349, like

16:51

you said, and offer two different skews so that everybody

16:54

gets a chance to play Metroid

16:56

Prime 4, which comes out on launch day.

16:59

I don't see them doing a bad at launch when they could just do it a

17:01

year later and people like us would buy it anyways

17:04

and have two. We're sickos. We're

17:06

total

17:06

sickos. Yeah, that

17:08

is true. And they are, yeah. They put Isabelle

17:11

Animal Crossing on it. I'll buy a new one, sure.

17:14

A Target exclusive, so there you go. That

17:16

one's coming out pretty soon, October 6th.

17:19

But this is actually a perfect

17:21

segue

17:22

into what the other

17:24

rumors are that we're

17:27

getting another Nintendo Direct.

17:31

We talked about price. Let's move on from that. Now I'm gonna go,

17:34

Cat, when do you think we're gonna get a Nintendo

17:36

Direct?

17:37

Next week. Ooh, Logan.

17:40

Wednesday, September 13th at 6 a.m. Pacific.

17:43

Wow, that's very specific. I love it. Who

17:46

are your sources? I don't, I just, yeah.

17:48

What did Doug Bowser tell you when you were

17:50

speaking? When you were breathing his hair. Are you the best friends with Doug now?

17:52

Yeah, you would DB or bros.

17:56

Definitely next week,

17:59

solely because next week. week is Tokyo

18:01

Game Show and they always do a director

18:03

on Tokyo Game Show so like yeah

18:05

it's probably true.

18:07

You know the rumors of a September direct

18:09

it has happened every year for the last decade. Yeah

18:12

because of TGS specifically like they always

18:14

show something before Tokyo Game Show. Yeah

18:16

yeah September is definitely one of

18:18

their big beats because they're sort

18:21

of setting the they're showing off what they've got

18:23

for whatever is coming out around November

18:26

and they're also sort of setting the agenda

18:30

for 2024 so it should be a fun direct whenever

18:32

it happens. I yeah

18:35

I think yeah probably next week and

18:38

I if you

18:39

know if they do some surprises they

18:41

show us a little more of some games or announce some

18:43

games I'll be so excited but if at the

18:45

end they just say and stay tuned for hardware

18:47

and you know hardware announcement in February I'll lose

18:49

my mind. They would never do this now. My soul

18:52

will leave my body. You don't think they'll do one more

18:54

thing? Oh no no I don't I don't

18:56

think they'll do a we are going to

18:58

announce hardware in February kind of thing.

19:00

They'll just

19:00

show it or they won't.

19:03

Okay they might say

19:05

a new uh we are working

19:08

on a new switch or something

19:10

like that or a new switch is coming

19:12

stay tuned for more information. It'll

19:14

be extremely understated they'll just

19:17

say also exciting news we're

19:19

working on a new piece of hardware and

19:21

we can't wait to share more about it with

19:23

you

19:24

in the future. That is a terrible business

19:26

idea. A bunch of games you don't care of. Really

19:28

I can't think of a single time

19:30

that they have shown off

19:32

a new piece of hardware in a direct

19:34

like the switch. They would not show it. They would just

19:37

say that it happened.

19:38

Yeah they also wouldn't do

19:40

what you're describing where they're like stay tuned we're going to

19:42

reveal some new hardware because they still have systems

19:44

to sell over Christmas so they're either going

19:46

to reveal this new thing or they're just going to wait. They're

19:48

going to sell those systems regardless

19:51

only people like us care about

19:53

a new the people who like grandma who's going

19:55

to target and sees the isabella animal

19:58

crossing limited edition

19:59

Switch light is gonna be like my little

20:02

grandchild would love this and buy it They've

20:05

got so many bundles come on This is another reason

20:07

why I think that we're very close because

20:09

they've got all these bundles. They're trying to kind of like blow

20:11

it out

20:12

You know, we've got the new Mario red OLED

20:15

We've got the the Black Friday

20:17

Mario Kart 8 bundle is live like

20:20

you can pre-order it now, which Classic

20:23

the Mario Kart 8 bundle. Yep The

20:25

the bane of my Black Friday

20:27

because every year like what are they gonna do

20:30

and it's the same thing but

20:32

Also, it works it works.

20:35

It's always one of our most popular Items

20:38

on Black Friday is that thing? So I don't know

20:41

I mean, but alright, we're definitely

20:43

not gonna get a new hardware announcement during

20:45

the drag But what do you think we

20:47

are? A lot

20:50

of quick to get I wouldn't put

20:52

it past Nintendo to tease something something

20:55

for hardware Something

20:58

for hardware. Maybe oh my gosh. I love

21:00

red Our producer

21:02

is currently showing footage of

21:05

Rhythm Heaven mega mix for the 3ds Every

21:08

time a Nintendo Direct comes around red gets extremely

21:11

excited Because he really wants

21:13

them to bring back Rhythm Heaven and frankly red's

21:16

correct. They should bring back Rhythm Heaven

21:18

Rhythm Heaven is a joy. I am now

21:21

you're probably right They'll probably say they'll

21:23

just

21:24

drop it as a random Twitter posts

21:27

on Like 4 p.m.

21:29

On a Friday. Yeah Everybody

21:32

will be set on fire trying to cover

21:34

it And then we'll get

21:36

more info later at

21:39

a special Nintendo Direct or something like that

21:41

probably early next year But yeah, I think you're

21:43

right as for this actual Nintendo Direct expect

21:45

a lot of Mario wonder. Yeah,

21:47

I would say yeah Maybe

21:49

and fine specs expect some

21:52

some ports Whoo

21:55

more footage in my RPG probably yeah,

21:58

I would be nice Be nice to

22:00

see a thousand year door, right?

22:02

We know nothing about 2024. We

22:04

don't have a date for anything that's coming out next year.

22:06

So they have to date their January game, their February

22:08

game. That's what this direct traditionally does. Like

22:10

Kirby and the Forgotten Land showed up here. Fire

22:13

Emblem and Gage showed up here last year. So I

22:15

think we're going to roll out the ports. I want to see a GameCube

22:17

port. I mean, I'm hoping for F-Zero GX, but

22:20

I think we'll see some sort of game. Maybe

22:21

they'll finally show that Fire Emblem remake

22:23

of a genealogy of the Holy War that's been

22:25

rumored forever. Give me a

22:28

Yoshi's Woolly World port. That's like one

22:30

of the few Wii U games that never

22:32

made it off the Wii U. I

22:34

mean, well, I guess it did in the sense that it's on the 3DS, but

22:37

it's not on the switch like all of basically every

22:39

other

22:40

Wii U console game. First

22:43

party. And I just I love Woolly World

22:45

so much. It's a very cute

22:47

little game. They'll definitely show more of

22:49

the Mario RPG. And

22:51

probably they'll announce some new

22:53

feature, whether it's a guest character

22:56

or it's an easy mode,

22:57

something like that. It'll be a little more of a deep dive,

22:59

I would expect. And of course, we'll also get the sword of

23:01

shield. Sorry, Scarvi,

23:04

Scarlet and Violet DLC to

23:06

release data, I would say. Seth, do you think it's

23:09

finally time for Donkey Kong 64 on

23:11

Nintendo Switch Online?

23:13

Oh, man. I want

23:15

it so bad. Donkey Kong 64. DK.

23:21

Donkey. We also need to see the this

23:24

platoon three side order DLC, I

23:26

think is going to show up. It's the second wave of their

23:28

expansion pass. It's the story based one.

23:31

We haven't seen anything from that since they announced it. So

23:33

I can use that to get Shadow Drop for like this

23:36

week, because yeah, we need to hear about that

23:38

one. Yeah, that's good. I think we'll

23:40

see some some amiibo support

23:42

for Super Mario RPG. And I think

23:44

they'll like put out some amiibo

23:46

specifically for that game that

23:49

does something useless, but we all don't

23:51

care. We just buy the dumb things anyway. How

23:55

is it to be a Nintendo fan? My question

23:57

now is what could they like?

23:59

realistically announced that

24:02

would just make you lose your

24:04

mind. I mean, Logan, what

24:07

what do you think is within the realm of possibility

24:09

that could be announced? It's going to just like, check

24:11

off your wish list of things that you've been hoping.

24:14

Well, for me personally, it's f zero g x

24:16

I think f zeros. You really think they're

24:18

gonna realistic I do. I think that's realistic.

24:21

I think that so many series have gotten

24:23

their shot on switch. And I think f

24:25

zero deserves it. I think that that

24:28

game still looks gorgeous. A HD

24:30

cleanup would do a lot of good for it. It

24:32

would look great with just a simple up res. Oh, all

24:35

right. It is amazing. Nice looking.

24:37

Yeah, I played it on Donkey Kong bongos

24:40

at PAX West and yeah,

24:42

I just I need this game back in my life. And

24:45

I think it's actually a good candidate. I think that

24:47

we're seeing series that have typically undersold

24:49

sell very well on Nintendo switch. And

24:52

I think as zero, it's never gonna fly off the shelves.

24:54

But I think a $40 remaster

24:57

with a physical release could do a nice job.

24:59

Okay, all right. I I'm skeptical,

25:01

but I won't crush your dreams. Yeah,

25:04

I'm skeptical too. Reb,

25:06

what about you? Oh, I mean, I kind of listed

25:08

some of the ones like I think a Yoshi's Wooly World port would

25:10

make me really happy. Donkey Kong 64 on switch online

25:12

to make me really happy. I know. I know the

25:15

two golden sun games are coming to switch online

25:17

at some point, they're not there yet. So

25:19

that is something they're going to have to announce eventually.

25:21

So I

25:23

forgot about that. That's

25:24

that'll make me very happy if that happens.

25:26

Yeah, I don't know. I'm

25:29

trying to think like what we're due for,

25:31

I guess. Like, I don't think we're gonna get another

25:33

Animal Crossing this generation. That would be ridiculous.

25:36

Like Splatoon is still going. Like, like

25:39

what what? Franscises.

25:40

Donkey Kong game. Donkey Kong has

25:42

been so underserved on switch.

25:45

It's kind of ridiculous. Yeah, you know what that

25:47

that actually I think is a realistic thing that would make me

25:49

lose my mind. Like Tropical Freeze was the last

25:51

big new Donkey Kong game. It was really

25:54

good. And as far as I remember

25:56

sold very well, like was very well received. Yeah,

25:58

I mean, they put it on switch

25:59

with Funky Mode, it was really, really fun. Yeah,

26:03

but we're due. Oops, all Funky Mode. That's the new game

26:05

that they're announcing. I mean, the problem is, it was

26:07

Retro, who did Tropical Freeze, right?

26:09

And they're clearly quite busy.

26:12

So they're not doing another Donkey Kong, surely.

26:15

So someone else would have to. Who, who

26:17

would make a Donkey Kong?

26:19

Whomps. But yes. You

26:22

hear me, Emoto, dust off, whoosh,

26:24

ancient tome of ideas that he had for

26:27

the original, for his Donkey Kong creation.

26:31

And then we just get another. Yeah. I

26:33

think, well, I think, yeah, I think another Donkey Kong Country game

26:35

though. Like, like we're, we're due. It's time. That

26:38

would rule. That would rule. I'm into it.

26:40

All right, Kat. My heart bleeds

26:43

for more Star Fox. I

26:45

should, I should would like a digital only release. Rev

26:48

showed me an indie game that's a Star

26:51

Fox rogue light. I'm so glad this is coming

26:53

up on this podcast because I haven't played

26:55

it. So I haven't been able to bring it up during Miiverse, but we

26:57

have to talk about this. What's it called? Whisker,

27:00

Whisker Squadron. Whisker Squadron.

27:02

Red, can we get footage of Whisker Squadron up?

27:04

I'm so sorry. It's like, it's like hyper,

27:07

oh, what was it? Hyperwave

27:09

or whatever you would call it. Yeah. Star

27:11

Fox sickos pay attention. This game

27:14

looks like a modern, incredible

27:16

Star Fox. I'm sorry

27:18

to say that it bored me a little bit. Oh,

27:21

you played it. It looks awesome, right?

27:23

Yeah.

27:25

It gets a little repetitive. Okay. A

27:29

little monotonous. However. Beautiful

27:31

though. Yeah. The idea of a Star Fox rogue

27:33

light was incredibly compelling to me

27:36

immediately. I love, love,

27:38

love, love, love, love the idea of trying

27:40

to play as many levels as I can through

27:43

the Lylat system without dying.

27:45

That would be so cool. So that

27:48

would make my tiny little

27:50

heart very happy. Also, I

27:53

know that everybody's sick of fire emblem, but

27:56

I'd be happy to see more fire emblem. So

27:58

let's make it happen. And

28:00

so yeah, those are the things

28:02

that stand out. I don't think that they're particularly

28:05

realistic. I think

28:07

that we're very much at the end of the Switch's

28:09

life cycle. And what we're probably

28:12

gonna get is a lot of, we'll

28:14

get another Kirby game. That's how

28:16

it works. They do like a Kirby game of some kind

28:18

every year and on the pacing cycle

28:20

of Kirby games, we're due for like another weird

28:24

lower price spin-off, right?

28:26

That's what's up next probably. So

28:28

yeah, some sort of weird Kirby mini game.

28:32

Renews his license. I

28:34

really liked the dessert one where he was like rolling through the

28:37

desserts and eating things. Dream Affay.

28:39

That was really, really surprising. Kirby Avalanche 2. Yeah.

28:42

Kirby Air Ride.

28:44

Yes, GameCube remaster. Just roll

28:46

them out. Yeah, this, I have one that I wanna

28:48

get on record here. I've been calling it for like two

28:50

years and it hasn't happened yet. I think that

28:53

they're going to partner with the

28:55

Dynasty Warriors crew to make a Xenoblade

28:57

Warriors game. I think that

28:59

they'll bring together the rosters from three Xenoblade Chronicles

29:01

games to the Dynasty

29:03

Warriors. Like that would be cool. Yeah.

29:06

Then there would be like two different fan

29:09

groups that could complain at us. That

29:11

would be a fun one. Yeah. I

29:13

love the Nintendo Warriors games. I think they're great.

29:15

Do you like Xenoblade though? I

29:18

like Xenoblade 3. Okay. Okay.

29:20

So we'll call you next time there's any Xenoblade in this.

29:23

Get you on here. I think Xenoblade fans would

29:25

be very lit, very hype. Or

29:28

a Warriors game. And actually

29:31

it probably makes way too much sense. Except

29:33

that you would have 20

29:34

different variations of those little fur

29:36

guys. Little fur ball guys. Oh

29:38

yeah.

29:43

I just think, yeah, they've been growing up. What are we looking

29:46

at? Why are we watching a unicycle? Un eraser.

29:49

What? This is a great game actually

29:51

for Super Nintendo. It used to be pretty

29:54

expensive to buy on the secondary market. But I don't

29:56

know if that's true. Red's just gone rogue and is showing

29:58

just like stuff that he likes. Well,

30:01

I am surprised that nobody said what

30:03

I thought I was for sure somebody

30:05

was going to say because this I think is realistic

30:08

and something that'll make me lose my mind. And I think they'll

30:10

find

30:10

a boy. Yeah, there it is. I

30:12

knew someone was going to say

30:15

when Waker toilet Princess said

30:18

those that collection at HD collection

30:21

has been rumored forever. Supposedly

30:23

it's just sitting in a warehouse somewhere next to the

30:25

fire emblem remake. So

30:28

maybe Nintendo just goes, yeah, here it is. Holiday

30:30

release. Let's go. I would

30:32

love it if they were just like, and you can download it after

30:35

the show. Yeah. Which they

30:37

sometimes

30:37

do. Shadow drop would be fun. I'm

30:39

just imagining like a video game industry

30:42

that works in such a way where game developers finish

30:44

games and they mass produce tons

30:46

of physical copies of them and then they just stack

30:48

them in boxes in a warehouse somewhere and

30:51

then just leave them there for like years at

30:53

a time and nobody notices

30:55

until finally they go, oh yeah, we need to release something

30:57

for the holiday. Well, we got that Twilight Princess

31:00

Wind Waker collection. I guess let's just toss

31:02

that out there for 70 bucks

31:04

and see who bites on that.

31:06

It's like whiskey. They

31:09

have to age it. Right.

31:11

What's wild to me is the number of time I've had

31:14

developers go. I worked on

31:16

a game that is all done. That would

31:18

blow everybody's mind if it actually got

31:20

announced, but it's just got shelved. It's

31:22

never coming out. Yeah.

31:23

See the light of day. That's

31:25

like, that's I guess the joke, right? Like that it

31:28

is both kind of in

31:30

most cases, it's kind of nuts that that would ever happen

31:32

because the majority of time if something isn't coming out

31:34

when you expect it to, it's because some

31:37

development or production nonsense

31:39

has happened and everybody is trying to figure it

31:41

out and game development is hard. But

31:44

there are absolutely stories of games

31:46

sitting on like everybody's one to switch

31:49

was in that situation. Because Nintendo didn't know what to do

31:51

with it. And so like it's both

31:53

real and also fundamentally absurd.

31:56

It is because I used to work in construction

31:58

and the idea that you would build. a building

32:01

and then just lock the door, no one can go in. Like

32:03

that's maybe like North Korea, they

32:05

do that, but like, no, it's just, so

32:08

it's North Korea construction and video

32:10

games where you work for years on a project and spend

32:12

millions and millions of dollars and then be like, oh,

32:15

well, forget about it. Nobody can ever.

32:17

I mean, that's San Francisco. There

32:20

are buildings that open here, or there

32:22

are apartment complexes that were completed, but they

32:24

weren't able to sell any units. So they just sit

32:26

empty. Yep.

32:27

The city buys them back. They're trying to turn them into

32:29

office space, but I digress. San

32:32

Francisco needs is more office, more

32:34

empty offices. Yep. Sorry.

32:36

They're trying to turn them into, never

32:38

mind, affordable housing. They're trying

32:40

to turn them into places to store all the

32:42

games that never came out. So

32:45

it's a win-win situation. Wow, Nintendo

32:47

just bought this apartment complex to

32:49

store all of the unreleased copies of Wind Waker

32:52

and Toilet

32:52

Princess. That they'll never release. Knock on the door. Who lives

32:54

here? Oh, it's an unreleased video game. Oh

32:56

my god, did she get on the amount? What

32:59

are you doing here? She's

33:02

just like washing a copy of Wind

33:04

Waker, the dish right. Oh, sorry. Charles

33:06

Martinet

33:06

opens the door. When we need him. Charles

33:09

Martinet opens the door. It's a me, an

33:11

unreleased Mario game. I

33:13

am the new

33:14

Mario ambassador. This is where they

33:16

keep me. It's

33:20

too bad. I think it's

33:22

what I want to see, and I think it's realistic, but I also don't.

33:25

I've given up hope.

33:26

I don't think we're ever going to get Wind Waker. I'm never

33:29

going to play Wind Waker again without digging up

33:31

my GameCube and going and buying a new copy of

33:33

it. What about your Wii U set? Seth, I have a copy. You want

33:35

me to mail it to you, man? Don't talk

33:37

about my Wii U, because that was my plan.

33:39

I was like, I'm sick of Nintendo dragging their feet.

33:42

I'm going to play it on my Wii U, like God

33:44

intended. And then my Wii U is bricks.

33:46

Seth, I'll lend

33:48

you my GameCube copy. You'll be OK. I

33:51

don't think I have a GameCube anymore. I will lend you

33:53

my GameCube. Come with San Francisco. Wait, you have every

33:55

other retro thing. How do you not have a GameCube? Because

33:58

I had two GameCubes. And

34:01

I had in the process of moving

34:03

them, I had put them on the floor of my old office,

34:05

which was upstairs. If you go back and watch old episodes

34:07

of NBC, you could see a beam of sunlight

34:09

hit my face about halfway through

34:12

every episode. I left

34:14

them on the floor. And then when I went

34:16

to get them again, my little dogs, my dumb

34:18

little jerk dogs had

34:20

peed on. Oh,

34:22

are we looking at Seth

34:24

Macey? I don't even

34:26

remember this. Is that you? This is me streaming.

34:29

Yeah, that's me. What's the horse behind you? What's

34:31

going on? Well, I

34:33

love horses. Okay,

34:35

sure. They're

34:38

God's most perfect creature. You

34:40

can run. And there's my son. Oh, my God.

34:44

He started 10th grade yesterday. What

34:49

I learned today is that Seth is secretly Tina

34:51

Belcher. He

34:53

is. I'm

34:55

not secretly anybody. I'm publicly

34:58

me. I read. I

35:00

don't know where you found that. And I think that is exciting

35:02

and awesome.

35:02

So good at this job. Yeah,

35:05

but I'm bad at it. So I have

35:08

no segue. No, I've got one for

35:10

you, Seth. Let me help you. You know

35:12

what thing that a couple of weeks ago, I

35:14

would have told you I thought we would see it this

35:16

direct and now we're not going to see it

35:18

this direct.

35:19

Yes. What is that? Here's

35:22

the kingdom DLC. That's right. We're

35:24

not getting tears of the kingdom DLC. They're just going

35:26

to go and make a whole nother game in six

35:28

years for that'll be released

35:31

on the switch

35:31

three. So, yeah, I

35:34

do game like what even

35:36

at this point, I can't even

35:38

imagine what they're going to do with

35:41

the Zelda franchise after just

35:44

here's your answer. Oh, I will pray a

35:46

pro skater. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.

35:50

This is me. This is my link on the screen right now. I

35:52

captured this. Oh, nice.

35:53

Yeah. I can I just say

35:56

for what a bunch of jerks to

35:58

me personally.

35:59

personally or fronted by the lack of

36:02

years of the kingdom dlc because the

36:04

big rumor that thing that everybody speculated

36:07

the dlc was going to be was cast

36:09

deals the cause you're my

36:11

my bird friend my body

36:14

my music all eyes

36:16

on mushroom and or companion

36:19

was not in tears of the kingdom in

36:21

any capacity except for like

36:24

a small reference if you completed a side

36:26

quest were a character implied

36:29

that we might see

36:29

cast later and so i thought surely

36:32

because cast with center to the brothel a while

36:34

deals the they're going to do tears the kingdom dlc

36:36

where he comes back and there's a plot and

36:38

this other guy i'm pregnant as well things are people

36:41

it's been out for a while though play the game there's

36:44

other character like talks about him and i'm gonna get to

36:46

the have my two buddies with me and do cool

36:48

deal see what a bunch of

36:50

a jerk was for not

36:53

giving me this desirable

36:55

wonderful experience that i could have been having over

36:57

my christmas break horrible

36:59

you're from sort of humor i'm

37:02

offended mister nintendo were

37:04

less likely it's disappointing that

37:07

we're not even getting like what a mass request or

37:09

anything like that really nothing yeah

37:11

that's a okay to

37:13

the team them as an enormous game a

37:16

more than one hundred hours at

37:18

least and there's so much define

37:21

and to do so whatever

37:23

are just go and enjoy your one fifty

37:25

our game

37:26

and nintendo took five hour five years

37:28

to make that said i

37:31

was really looking forward to tears

37:33

of the king new dlc and i'm frankly

37:35

pretty surprised that they're not making it will

37:37

will be voter what i've heard them say

37:40

we have no plans i'm in a week later

37:42

there's the thing they said they had no plans about

37:44

but i think i believe i'm in this case i think

37:46

we've he said we've done all we can with this

37:48

world yeah which is fair it's been two four

37:51

games to dlc is a warrior spinoff

37:53

like i think i've seen enough of this high rule

37:55

i love how tears licking them ended so i'm

37:57

disappointed that we're not going to be going back but

37:59

Honestly, if it means we get

38:02

the next Zelda a year faster, then I'm kind

38:04

of for it, I think.

38:05

Yeah. I do

38:07

think that this sort of confirms in

38:09

my mind, in my

38:11

hypothetical speculative mind, that

38:14

the future of the Zelda franchise,

38:17

their next game, they're going to pull back somewhat.

38:22

Because Tears of the Kingdom was enormous. This

38:24

three-tiered world, absolutely massive,

38:27

so much full, so packed. I don't

38:29

know that you make a new game of some

38:31

kind that's bigger than that somehow. That

38:33

just seems that that's too much.

38:35

I don't know. I

38:37

don't think that I want that. I think zoning

38:41

in and pulling

38:43

back a little bit and having something very

38:46

self-contained and specific and detailed

38:50

is probably a wise direction

38:52

that they go next. I think whatever it is, it's

38:54

not going to be like Tears of the Kingdom, but

38:56

also it will be immediately identifiable as something

38:59

that learned lessons from Tears of the Kingdom. Yeah,

39:01

it'll be Tears of the Kingdom on the water.

39:03

I hope so. That's my dream. Yeah,

39:05

do Wind Waker next. Keep this Link in Zelda and have

39:07

him just sail away from the coast of Lurly Mill. I

39:09

want something kind of like Majora's Mask

39:12

was to Ocarina. There we go.

39:14

All of that. Or this. Yeah,

39:18

sure. Excuse me, princess.

39:21

I mean, I think the actual answer, I

39:23

think, is that we do get a top-down Zelda,

39:26

more traditional Zelda, before we get

39:28

whatever the next step in the franchise is. I don't know

39:30

if that's it. We've talked about this on the show before, but we've

39:33

talked about them potentially doing a remake of

39:35

Link to the Past or something like that. And

39:38

I do think something like that is probably in the cards next,

39:40

because they tend to go back and forth. They tend to do

39:42

a top-down Zelda and then a 3D one and go back and

39:44

forth.

39:46

I don't think they will ever make another top-down Zelda

39:49

ever again. Whoa, you heard him. Really? Why

39:51

do you think that? Well,

39:53

first of all, they were going

39:55

to remake the Link to the Past, and then that

39:58

became a link between worlds. On

40:00

the three years. You just better ventilate to the past. I

40:02

don't agree, but I do really love A Link Between

40:05

Worlds. It's probably my secret

40:07

favorite Zelda. I

40:09

just don't see the point unless

40:12

they're really going for a nostalgia play.

40:14

I think that Nintendo sees Zelda differently

40:16

now than they used

40:18

to. And I think Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom

40:21

changed their outlook on it. They

40:23

see dollar signs. Fundamentally

40:25

disagree with that. I think the

40:28

series has been sort

40:30

of irrevocably split into these two

40:32

types of video game. And I think

40:34

the top-down Zeldas are a

40:37

different level of scope and budget and

40:40

a different type of design that they enjoy doing.

40:42

Link's Awakening was great, frankly,

40:45

the remake, I thought. And I

40:47

think even if they're not necessarily making brand

40:49

new entries in that, I think they'll at

40:51

least keep that spirit alive in some way. I

40:55

don't think there's any way they abandon that formula entirely.

40:59

And if they did, I would be double mad.

41:04

Reb is smarter than me, so listen to her. That's

41:06

not true at all. I'm going to listen to both of you because

41:08

you both make valid points. I

41:11

am at a complete loss as to

41:13

what they can do

41:14

going forward with the Zelda franchise. And that

41:17

is my favorite thing when

41:19

a Nintendo game or series I just I can't

41:21

imagine because it always surprises me. Breath

41:24

of the Wild, I had no... I thought

41:26

it was just going to be like an Ocarina of Time. Instead

41:29

it was the greatest game that I had ever played until

41:31

it's follow up, which I thought,

41:33

well, there's no way they're going to top

41:36

my favorite game of all time. And then they did.

41:38

Then they made the best game ever made and no games

41:40

are going to come close for a long, long time. And

41:43

now

41:43

Breath of the Wild is the best Zelda because

41:45

it has the Champions Ballad DLC. Where's

41:49

your champions ballad DLC tiers of the kingdom?

41:51

Check and mate. Damn.

41:53

Well, my opinion on the

41:55

DLC is like I'm bummed, but

41:57

realistically, I would have bought it and then I wouldn't

41:59

have... Is that's just the kind of jerk

42:01

saying Here's to the kingdom

42:04

and then that's it for me Aren't you the guy

42:06

who like specifically refused to finish

42:08

tears of the kingdom because you were having so much fun

42:10

in that world I haven't finished. What do you mean?

42:12

You wouldn't play the DLC you haven't

42:14

even beaten the game yet You'd be playing tears the kingdom

42:17

and it's difficult It's difficult

42:19

for

42:19

me to explain but a

42:21

lot of DLC in games. It's

42:23

like story it Makes

42:26

it pulls me it it doesn't

42:29

actually but it feels to me like it

42:31

gives me anxiety that I'm being pulled out of the world

42:33

that I like and then put into a Slightly

42:35

different version of that world if that makes

42:37

any sense. So

42:39

yeah, I I know I love tears

42:41

of the kingdom It's my favorite game of all time. I think

42:43

that it's fine the way that it is and if

42:45

I want more I'll just

42:47

delete my save file and start

42:48

it. Well, your opinions wrong, but that's fine My

42:55

energy now, this is great. I've

42:57

taught you well young Padawan. It's

42:59

fine Wrong before

43:02

it's been known to happen. So Well,

43:06

hey, hey Logan. Yes.

43:08

Yes It's a Doug Bowser tell you specifically

43:10

there wasn't gonna be any tears of the kingdom He

43:13

did not see you talk to Bowser the

43:15

Bowser Bowser

43:16

I did talk to the

43:18

the king of the Koopas Doug Bowser. Yeah, you

43:20

were at Nintendo live in Seattle Yes,

43:23

I went to Nintendo live and PAX West last weekend

43:25

and that included I got to go hands-on with Detective

43:28

Pikachu returns There's impressions of that up on

43:30

IGN right now and I talked with no

43:32

a president Doug Bowser He told

43:34

me all about those new Animal Crossing

43:36

switch light bundles that are coming out October 6th and

43:39

really my main takeaway from the interview

43:41

with Doug was that Nintendo is just they

43:44

have succeeded in their mission

43:46

to transform into an entertainment company

43:48

Not just a game company and this started and

43:51

what it was 2015 I think that we heard about their

43:53

partnership with Universal and you fast forward almost

43:55

a decade now and we've got The theme

43:57

park in Japan and in California. We've

43:59

got a and we've got

44:01

Nintendo Live, I think, is another facet of that as well. So

44:04

to see this transformation that started under Iwata

44:07

kind of coming complete

44:09

was cool to see. Be it

44:11

by land, air,

44:13

sea, or

44:15

an ever-changing digital landscape, our

44:18

nation is threatened by the unexpected and

44:20

unrelenting. But as our enemies shift and evolve with

44:24

every passing moment, Marines

44:27

will adapt to defeat any threat. Because

44:30

in the battles for America's future, there

44:32

is only one constant. Marines

44:35

who will win them. The few, the

44:38

proud, the Marines.

44:43

Hey, everybody. Fall is in the air, and

44:45

that just means you're about to get even

44:48

busier. The holidays are around

44:50

the corner, so you've got to think about shopping. The leaves

44:52

are going to fall off your trees, you've got to think about raking

44:54

them up. So instead of wasting time making

44:56

meals, why not get Factor,

44:59

which is America's number one, Ready to Eat Meal

45:01

Kit. It'll help you feel up fast with Chef Prepared, Dietitian

45:04

45:09

eat well, you will stay on track with your

45:11

healthy lifestyle. I won't lie.

45:14

It's not that I'm too busy. It's just

45:16

that I'm super lazy, and these things are amazing.

45:19

You just throw them in the microwave for like two minutes, wait

45:22

another two minutes, and then eat them. If you're lazy

45:24

like me, it's a godsend. If you're

45:26

busy, also pretty awesome.

46:51

Yeah, what else did he say regarding

46:54

the switch that was of

46:56

note?

46:57

He said very little regarding the

46:59

switch when I asked about its life cycle. I said,

47:03

where are we in the switch's life cycle? He said, we are

47:06

where you said we are. Because in the previous

47:08

question, I said it was almost seven years old.

47:10

That's all he would say about it. He said

47:13

that every year there's kids turning

47:15

six or seven or eight, and those are new

47:17

households that are considering Nintendo.

47:20

That's where they view their place in the market, which

47:22

I thought was a fair answer because it's definitely true.

47:24

I walked around Nintendo Live. It was a very

47:26

family-focused event. Take photos with

47:28

mascots, go hands-on with some

47:30

Nintendo games that are mostly already out.

47:33

Mario Wonder was there, which was a nice surprise.

47:35

It was a very cool event for families

47:37

to come to. Did you go hands-on with

47:40

Mario Wonder?

47:41

I did, and I think it's going to be the best

47:43

2D Mario since Mario World.

47:45

I thought it was outstanding. Wow.

47:48

Heck yeah.

47:48

That's good, huh? All we've gotten are the new

47:50

Super Mario Bros. games since then. I

47:54

thought it was excellent. Wow.

47:56

Does it feel good? Yes.

47:57

Honestly, it feels like

48:00

it is fast. The

48:02

speed is really good. There's

48:05

so much charm now. You've seen it in the trailer, but

48:07

like just Mario, like running

48:09

into a warp pipe, reaching out, grabbing his hat that falls

48:11

off and pulling it into the warp pipe with them. Just little touches

48:13

like that that are just awesome. The drill

48:16

power up feels right at home in a Super Mario

48:18

game. When you're playing multiplayer,

48:20

you no longer bump into each other like you did

48:22

in New Super Mario Brothers U. It is

48:25

an incredible change that needs to be highlighted. Like

48:27

everything about it, it checked every box for me. I'm

48:29

really

48:29

excited about it. That's great. And I will

48:32

say that Mario World feels great. It

48:34

is one of my, I love

48:36

Mario 3, but I think Mario World might be the best

48:39

feeling Mario game. I agree.

48:41

That could change. That could change in October, I think. I

48:43

think Mario World feels amazing. I

48:46

wasn't

48:46

sure because the videos, it looked

48:48

a little, I don't know, floaty, a little slow,

48:50

but to hear that is

48:52

great. How's the verticality? Was

48:55

there a good chance to kind of explore

48:57

more in the worlds where they

48:58

more confined? Yeah, I

49:00

think that, yeah, there was good verticality.

49:03

There were some secret blocks we found that

49:05

popped out the classic vines that you climb up and then

49:07

you're in a totally different area above the cloud. So

49:09

that sense of exploration was entirely there.

49:12

The wonder seeds totally change everything

49:14

up and make the level into like a fever

49:16

dream that are super fun to run through. The

49:19

levels are ranked on a five star challenge system

49:21

now. And the hardest one in the demo was three stars.

49:24

And it was fairly challenging to collect

49:26

everything and get to the end of that one. So

49:28

I want

49:28

to see Nintendo go full Kaizo here.

49:31

Yeah, yeah. That'd be fun. I

49:34

just had a vision in my head of a thing that Nintendo

49:36

will not do because it's a great idea. Super

49:40

Mario Maker with wonder seeds.

49:43

That would be amazing. Can

49:45

you imagine? Wonderful, get like a Super Mario

49:48

Maker 2 DLC or like an update

49:50

for that? Because that's a deal. On the extra styles

49:53

of that one, there's still that empty slot.

49:55

Like there's the four main art styles and there's an

49:57

extra styles area.

49:59

world and then a blank slot. I'm just. But

50:02

I don't do it. There's no

50:04

way. Mario Maker 2 is the biggest

50:06

disappointment of this generation. It's such a bummer.

50:09

She's not wrong. It's

50:13

it's worse than the original Mario Maker and it's sold

50:15

worse. Yeah. Well, and then Nintendo drops

50:17

support for it like like a hot potato.

50:20

It's added like a huge disappointment.

50:22

All right. I mean, I would know if I would

50:25

go so far as to say it's the biggest disappointment

50:27

of this generation. Once a bit. I

50:29

mean, the biggest disappointment from Nintendo of

50:31

this particular generation for the Nintendo

50:33

switch, I want to be clear, which

50:35

by the way, Nintendo sets a high bar. What?

50:39

What? What? What? Which is up there, I think.

50:41

I was going to say everyone's one to switch can't be

50:43

a disappointment because it had no expectation. The original

50:46

one to switch the original one to switch is up there. Yeah.

50:49

Nintendo just can't capture that. No

50:51

magic of Wii Sports. No

50:53

Nintendo Land, baby. I'll bring it up every

50:55

episode of my back to. I'm sorry.

50:58

They should launch the new switch, the

51:00

switch successor with the new

51:02

Wii Sports. Yeah, they should. Why

51:04

don't they do that? You're right. Yeah. Just call it

51:06

Wii Sports. Just call it Wii Sports.

51:10

It's called brand. Ring Fit Adventure was really good.

51:13

That'll be $8,500. I play Ring Fit

51:15

Adventure. I love it. But in all seriousness,

51:17

Mario Maker 3 would be lit. Yeah. Super

51:20

lit.

51:20

Nintendo, you heard us. This

51:22

new Nintendo console you're making. Give

51:24

us Ring Fit 2. Give us Wii Sports.

51:27

Give us Nintendo Land and give us Mario

51:30

and a Star Fox 64. Star Fox 64,

51:32

Mario Maker 3, Blammo. You just

51:34

sold so many games just to this podcast

51:36

alone.

51:37

Yeah. Yep. And Donkey Kong.

51:40

You've got my list, Doug. Yeah. Logan, I

51:42

need you to take my list to my

51:44

good friends. Let them know. Yeah. Next

51:46

time you guys are out for a slice of pizza.

51:49

For a slice. I'll have your best friends.

51:52

Slide over. Logan lives in the PNW.

51:55

He can go to Nintendo. You just

51:57

knock on their door. The stones throw away. Excuse me,

51:59

Mr. Koopa.

52:00

Hello. Hello, Mr. Koopa. You know what you

52:02

do? And this will work every time. Get yourself a

52:05

high visibility vest, get

52:07

yourself a hard hat,

52:08

get yourself a clipboard, and you can go into anywhere

52:10

in America. You just be like, I got

52:12

to, and they'll be like, oh yeah, yeah, we'll buzz you in.

52:14

He walks into Nintendo headquarters

52:17

and it's just a bunch of stacks of Twilight Princess

52:19

Wind Waker. You weren't supposed to see this. Oh

52:21

God. We were saving this. Just

52:24

me and Moe, we were just eating this piece of pizza.

52:26

Yeah. Ooh, all right. Oh,

52:28

Logan, real quick.

52:29

Yeah. Detective Pikachu. Detective

52:32

Pikachu. I want to hear what are your impressions on that? How's

52:34

it feel? How is it?

52:41

a fun game to play. It's a fun game to play with your friends. So

52:43

it's a fun game. It's a fun game. It's a fun

52:45

game. It's a fun game. and

52:48

I love the writing. Detective Pikachu is hilarious,

52:51

but it's

52:53

very simple. It's aimed as a mystery

52:55

game for kids or for families to play

52:57

with their kids, and that's seeming the same

53:00

here, which is why the first game

53:02

and this one, I just have questions about the

53:04

target audience, because it's a lot of reading

53:06

and just clicking through dialogue where not much

53:09

is happening. Like, a lot of reading

53:11

for, I think, younger children, but then it's

53:13

so simple to solve that I don't really

53:15

know how adults will feel about it. So

53:17

if you're not a Poke-maniac, I'm

53:19

not sure this one's for you. That being

53:21

said, Detective Pikachu is still hilarious.

53:24

I like him more than Ash's Pikachu. I

53:26

just think he is so funny. And

53:30

yeah, there's some really clever writing, some fun

53:32

interactions with Pokemon around Rhyme City,

53:34

like him climbing up on this Growlithe right here

53:36

is really cute. But it seems

53:39

like the mystery is still going to be pretty simple. But if

53:41

you like the first one, you'll like this one. They

53:43

also have something really interesting called Story

53:46

Jump mode, where you can jump around

53:48

to any part of the game that you want,

53:50

even if you've never played it before. So you could

53:52

buy this game on October 6th, open

53:55

it up and see how it ends pretty

53:57

much instantly. And I asked the director, is

53:59

it? Like a book. Yeah, like flipping the

54:01

last chapter. And he said, yes, it's exactly

54:04

like that. That is that's what they were thinking. It's like

54:06

a detective novel. Yeah. Some people want

54:08

to play through it with the context of knowing

54:10

the twists at the end. So that's kind

54:12

of that's kind of what I thought. They come

54:15

up with the end and they work backwards.

54:17

Maybe so. They write. So maybe you should play it

54:19

that way. Every time this game is mentioned

54:21

somewhere, Miranda Sanchez gets just like an unexpected

54:24

jolt of serotonin. Yes.

54:27

I also wish it looked better. It

54:29

looks like an upper 3DS game. It really does.

54:31

I mean, it was announced a billion years ago, wasn't

54:33

it? Yes. Yeah. That's a bummer. It

54:36

was announced in 2019. It's

54:38

good for kids to learn reading. Yes,

54:40

exactly. I was thinking that. You

54:42

laugh, but my kids, they wanted,

54:44

when my oldest was like four, he

54:47

really wanted to learn, or he wanted to play

54:49

Pokemon. And his ability to

54:51

read just exploded because

54:54

he wanted so badly to know what was happening

54:56

in the game. And he just played it. And it's like, OK, now you're

54:58

ready for kindergarten. You're bored now. Because

55:00

you already know how to read.

55:01

A lot of people learn whole new languages

55:03

that way, like playing video games or watching shows.

55:06

That's a great idea. I never thought of that. I've been watching Sesame

55:08

Street in Spanish because I'm trying

55:10

to pick up on the Spanish. You

55:12

mean Estrada Sesame? I

55:15

wish I was watching the

55:17

actual Spanish version, but instead

55:19

I'm watching American

55:21

Sesame

55:23

Street with Spanish subtitles. They

55:26

don't subtitle the songs. This is a weird tangent.

55:29

I'm sorry. They don't subtitle the songs

55:32

because, I

55:33

don't know, they just don't. So

55:35

all the songs are in English, but then all the

55:37

dialogue is in Spanish. I don't know. They don't dub it. I

55:39

don't know what's going on with that. OK. All right. Oh,

55:42

Plaza Sesimo. This is what I wish we had. I wish I could

55:44

watch Plaza Sesimo in the States. But I

55:46

haven't. Hey, listeners, if you know a way

55:48

that I can watch Plaza Sesimo in the States

55:51

reliably, please comment and let me know

55:53

because I really want to watch it. At a VPN.

55:54

I was going to say ExpressVPN is

55:57

not a sponsor. Probably like that. No. Anyway,

55:59

sorry. for that tangent. If you want to learn Japanese

56:02

and you want to do it while playing a video game, I

56:04

recommend getting an older

56:07

copy of Pokemon maybe, say Pokemon

56:10

Emerald or something like that,

56:11

because the text is all in Hiragana

56:15

and it's very easy to understand because it's

56:17

intended for young readers and so

56:19

it's a great way. That was how I

56:22

was kind of working on my Japanese

56:24

while I was

56:24

living over there. So I played Japanese,

56:26

I played Pokemon basically exclusively in Japanese.

56:28

So there you go.

56:30

Yeah, we talked about it before, but I'm

56:32

pretty sure like 98% of Japanese speakers in

56:36

the United States learned because they wanted to play

56:38

Final Fantasy V

56:39

and that was the only way you used to be able to play.

56:41

That's a little harder. It's a little more complicated though.

56:44

A tactics RPG like Fire Emblem can

56:47

be surprisingly good because

56:49

once you understand the kanji for the different items and

56:51

everything, you're on your way. I

56:53

have no personal experience with this, but my wedded

56:56

life lover has been

56:58

saying that the top down Zelda games, especially

57:00

I think Link

57:01

Between

57:08

Worlds, I think he said maybe or Spirit

57:10

Tracks or one of those is really, really good for

57:12

learning Japanese because it has like, Kat

57:15

help me with this, it has like both katakana and hiragana

57:18

or something like a way that you could see like, something

57:20

like that. I don't understand how many that

57:24

works, but Zelda good is

57:26

the advice I'm getting. They put the little

57:28

characters

57:28

as the translation for the kanji at the

57:30

top, as Logan was saying, the offuri-gan.

57:33

Thank you, thank you. That's the information I was looking for.

57:35

I learned Japanese to play

57:37

Ace Attorney. That was expensive. Oh heck yeah.

57:40

So it was all not worth it.

57:42

And now I know it, so it's great. For me, it

57:44

was super robot wars. And

57:47

when I was leaving Japan, I was that

57:49

close. I was starting to understand I could

57:51

see the matrix and

57:55

then I left and I lost it all. Yeah,

57:57

actually. Okay, here's another audience call.

57:59

If anybody has any good games they

58:02

recommend for someone who is learning Spanish, like

58:04

who has a... I can read pretty basic

58:06

stuff at this point. So if you have any games that

58:08

are really good for developing

58:11

basic Spanish language skills, tell me in

58:13

the comments. I want to know. I want to play them.

58:14

Nice. Yeah. I

58:17

love linguistics. I watch like five different

58:19

linguistic YouTubers.

58:21

Not those fake ones that learn

58:23

like eight words and then pretend they can speak a whole language, but

58:25

like real ones. So I could talk about this forever. But

58:27

unfortunately, this is a Nintendo podcast. What? So

58:30

I can't talk about how much German

58:32

I surprised myself by knowing when I was over

58:34

there. So

58:35

I want to do a really quick shout

58:37

out because when I was in Germany,

58:40

we were walking by the Nintendo booth before it started

58:42

and this dude comes running out. He's like, I

58:44

thought I heard. I thought I recognized that voice. He's

58:47

like, you're Seth Macy. And it was his name was Nico.

58:50

He works for Nintendo Switzerland. And

58:52

he came over and he's like a huge fan of the show.

58:55

So I want to give a shout out

58:56

to Nico and Nintendo Switzerland. And if you're

58:58

not from Switzerland, I apologize.

59:01

But I'm pretty sure he said he was

59:03

from Switzerland because he speaks German

59:05

with a different accent than pair.

59:08

But so does everybody like the guys in Cologne

59:10

speak with a different accent than the guys in Düsseldorf.

59:13

Oh, no, I'm doing it again. Talking

59:15

about linguistics. I

59:17

say we're going to we're going to move on.

59:22

Does anybody else have any shout

59:24

outs they want to they want to highlight?

59:26

I mean, since we're doing that, shout out to

59:28

the person who recognized me from NBC

59:31

on the bar and said that they watched the

59:33

show every week. I was really I was

59:35

really nervous because no one ever calls

59:38

me out in public. It's weird,

59:40

right? I'm sorry if I was awkward. Thank

59:43

you for listening.

59:45

A shout out to Cup Noodle for

59:47

making gaming Cup Noodle. Oh, no,

59:50

no, no, don't shout that out.

59:51

No, no, right on. Yes.

59:54

A new caffeinated version

59:57

of Cup Noodle that's currently available

59:59

in Japan. Red, please find the graphic

1:00:01

for this. Does

1:00:04

not have a soup base. It's

1:00:06

more saucy so that you don't have to worry about

1:00:08

spilling it all over your precious peripherals.

1:00:11

Japanese social media is very excited about

1:00:13

this. Is there any

1:00:15

way we can get some of this for

1:00:17

American social media? It is the true

1:00:20

gamer fuel. Gaming

1:00:21

cup noodle. Something, something spent

1:00:23

all this time wondering if we could. Didn't spend enough time

1:00:26

wondering if we should. Something,

1:00:28

something.

1:00:28

Why would you wonder if it's like it's cup of

1:00:30

noodles and caffeine in

1:00:33

an electric case

1:00:35

that looks like fantastic. It's a dynamically

1:00:38

designed packaging. There it is. Look

1:00:40

at that.

1:00:41

Look at that rainbow and everything. No,

1:00:43

no. Crackling

1:00:45

energy crystals. No, please,

1:00:48

please eat a vegetable. Please eat a green

1:00:50

vegetable. Noodles are a vegetable. Yes,

1:00:53

vegetables. Shout out to vegetables. It

1:00:55

has freeze dried vegetables. No, no, no. You

1:00:57

go eat a fresh leafy green vegetable everyone

1:00:59

right now. The worst kind

1:01:01

of that's not good for your all night gaming

1:01:03

sessions. Yeah. Oh, yeah.

1:01:06

Do I am I going to find caffeine

1:01:09

and kale? I don't think so. Gamers

1:01:11

eat a vegetable challenge. Sadness and kale.

1:01:14

It's the worst. Kale's delicious. No,

1:01:16

it's not. I refuse to believe you've

1:01:18

been. They got to you. Big kale. You

1:01:21

too. Big kale. Not sponsored

1:01:23

by Big Kale. This episode is brought to you

1:01:25

by Big Kale.

1:01:28

Logan, do you have any leafy green vegetables or otherwise

1:01:30

you would like to give a shout out to? Yeah, I'll give a shout

1:01:33

out to a game. I saw a Pax West. It's

1:01:35

something relevant. Yeah, yeah.

1:01:37

Back on the rails. It's called it's

1:01:39

called Big Boy boxing and it's coming to switch

1:01:42

and it is punch out. It

1:01:44

is literally all

1:01:45

so

1:01:47

another. Yeah, another classic Nintendo

1:01:49

series that they've abandoned that other people

1:01:52

are bringing back. I played it and

1:01:54

yes, this is outstanding.

1:01:56

Unbelievably punch out.

1:01:59

me design and it is maybe

1:02:02

harder than punch out. Like it

1:02:04

is tough and it's, it was a

1:02:06

lot of fun to play. I did not beat the boss that

1:02:09

I was fighting in the demo. I got it down to a sliver left

1:02:11

and then lost, but my buddy I was with

1:02:13

did manage to beat it super cool and it has

1:02:15

come to switch and I think there's a

1:02:17

demo on steam right now, okay. Check out.

1:02:20

And do you know offhand when this comes out

1:02:22

or no, I think next year, but

1:02:24

I'm not entirely sure on that big

1:02:27

boy.

1:02:27

Big boy. Big boy. Box. Box. What a great name.

1:02:29

This is great. Yeah,

1:02:31

no, I love the animation and it. Yeah,

1:02:35

no, this is great. Is a super

1:02:37

punch out on NSO. I can't remember.

1:02:40

It is. Okay. That's also a very good game. The

1:02:42

we won is fantastic. And I held

1:02:44

off on that until kind

1:02:47

of recently, actually, I think five years ago, I just

1:02:49

bought it used on a whim and I was like, why

1:02:51

did I not buy this game? This game

1:02:53

is wonderful. It's so good. Oh

1:02:55

yeah. Come on. Uh,

1:02:58

the, the we version on Nintendo,

1:03:00

the original we version of punch out was quite good

1:03:02

and included donkey Kong, everybody's

1:03:05

favorite

1:03:06

as a secret boss. I

1:03:08

did not know that. Well, now I

1:03:10

have to. Hook it up to the old

1:03:13

CRT. And we, we learned a lot about

1:03:15

a little max background. There

1:03:18

was character development for glass. Joe,

1:03:21

we punch out as a lost treasure. Yeah.

1:03:24

No, it's a wonderful, wonderful game. Look at, there he

1:03:26

is. Wow. No, I can't. You

1:03:29

could, he's hard too. Like he, yeah,

1:03:31

they're seven times stronger than a human. Um,

1:03:34

and I just watched, I just watched this show chimp

1:03:36

empire on Netflix. It talks about it's really

1:03:39

great. You should check that. So low key,

1:03:41

one of the best uses of the, uh,

1:03:43

the we remote. I am. Yeah.

1:03:46

It's

1:03:46

a great game. Go, go play that one. So,

1:03:49

um, let's get to some questions. It's question

1:03:51

block time and people love it when we ask, they love

1:03:53

it. Questions and Logan,

1:03:55

I'm going to ask this one first because you said you had an

1:03:57

answer for this. This one comes from Travis Crawford.

1:03:59

Travis asks, what game do you own

1:04:02

the most of? He says, I was

1:04:04

going through my stuff the other day and noticed I had four

1:04:07

copies of Halo for the

1:04:09

original Xbox, thinking he must

1:04:11

have just acquired them through LAN parties over

1:04:13

the years. Logan, what game

1:04:15

do you own the most

1:04:18

copies of? I own nine copies

1:04:21

of the Wii U classic Star Fox

1:04:23

guard. Yes. That is

1:04:25

my answer to this question. Please say more about why,

1:04:27

how. Why not?

1:04:29

No, just kidding. So I collect Wii

1:04:31

U games, because it's one of my favorite consoles.

1:04:34

And I decided to go for all of the

1:04:37

Nintendo published Wii U games.

1:04:39

And I'd found a couple that were in like those crappy

1:04:42

GameStop black boxes that aren't official.

1:04:45

So I needed some, it had the manual, it had the right slip

1:04:47

cover and everything. So I just needed a blue box and

1:04:50

GameStop was selling Star Fox guard for 99 cents.

1:04:53

So I went in and they, I said,

1:04:55

I'll buy Star Fox guard. And

1:04:57

I said, can I buy every copy you have? And

1:04:59

they said, no, we can only sell you three. And I

1:05:01

said, well, that's random, but okay. I'm trying to give

1:05:04

you money. So I

1:05:06

spent $3 there. And then I went to the other two

1:05:08

GameStops in town and bought up the stocks

1:05:10

of Star Fox guards to have spare Wii

1:05:13

U cases for a dollar each. And

1:05:16

then I did replace a couple

1:05:18

of them with some Wii U games I collected over the years, but

1:05:20

I still have like

1:05:21

five fully intact Star Fox guards

1:05:23

in their original case. And I've never played it. I've

1:05:25

never played it. That is a great story.

1:05:29

Thank you. It's the best Star

1:05:31

Fox ever because I don't like Star Fox right now.

1:05:34

Wow. Wow,

1:05:37

my heart's broken, jeez. Sorry. How

1:05:39

many copies of a

1:05:41

game do you have? I don't

1:05:43

know why I'm phrasing it like that. What game have you bought

1:05:45

the most? Me? You

1:05:47

own the most of, yes.

1:05:49

It's probably either Star New Valley

1:05:51

or Undertale and it's all digital copies.

1:05:55

Undertale, I definitely have on Switch,

1:05:59

PlayStation. and PC.

1:06:03

Maybe that one I just have three of. I think

1:06:05

Stardew Valley I have on Switch, PC,

1:06:09

mobile,

1:06:11

and maybe Xbox?

1:06:15

I don't know. It's one of those. I

1:06:17

have at least three of both and

1:06:21

potentially four of one of them,

1:06:23

just because I kept buying it on more platforms

1:06:25

because I wanted to play on other things. It's

1:06:29

a good game. There's nothing wrong. It's the complete

1:06:31

opposite of Logan's story. It is the opposite. Yeah.

1:06:34

Again, you actually want to play. Yeah.

1:06:37

Kat, what about you? I think

1:06:40

I've purchased Super Mario Brothers 3 on

1:06:42

every Nintendo platform I've ever owned. I

1:06:44

had it on NES. I bought it on

1:06:47

GBA. I bought it

1:06:49

on the Nintendo Wii and the Wii U and

1:06:52

the 3DS. I own a Famicom

1:06:55

copy that's sitting

1:06:56

right over there. It's

1:06:59

available on my Switch via NSO.

1:07:02

I don't know how much money

1:07:05

I've spent on Super

1:07:07

Mario Brothers 3 over

1:07:09

the years, but it must be a lot.

1:07:12

Also, shout out to Castlevania

1:07:15

Symphony of the Night, a game

1:07:17

that I purchased on the PS4,

1:07:20

the

1:07:21

original PlayStation, and also

1:07:24

I have the Japanese version

1:07:26

as well. I have because

1:07:28

the case was really cool. That is

1:07:31

a good reason. That's a great reason. There are

1:07:33

handful of games that I have a number of

1:07:35

copies of. Okay. Yeah.

1:07:38

I have a hard time thinking

1:07:40

for sure. I would say probably it's

1:07:43

like the classic, like Mario 3 and Super

1:07:45

Mario World. I own

1:07:47

several times over, physical and

1:07:50

digitally. Symphony of the Night, I actually

1:07:53

bought that, I think three times. I have

1:07:55

it on Xbox 360,

1:07:57

which was the first time I ever played it.

1:07:59

I have it on PlayStation 4 and I have it on my iPad,

1:08:02

which is actually you sync a controller

1:08:04

to it That's actually a pretty good way

1:08:06

to play that game. And if you haven't played

1:08:09

that game, what is your damn problem? That's what

1:08:11

is your damn problem. Why is it that way?

1:08:13

No switch it put the Vania Metroidvania

1:08:17

Yeah, I think like

1:08:20

like the obvious answer I

1:08:21

Definitely. Oh, no, I just realized

1:08:25

I have like every version of grid of

1:08:27

the auto 5 I just you're

1:08:29

the person who keeps Five

1:08:32

million copies every single quarter.

1:08:34

It's your fault

1:08:35

Yep, I bought I bought the last

1:08:38

most recent one was and they put it on PlayStation 5.

1:08:40

I bought it on PlayStation 5 I started

1:08:42

the first mission I was like I'm so sick I've done this

1:08:44

a million times because I used to when I reviewed

1:08:47

hardware that was like

1:08:48

one of the games we used to test And so

1:08:50

I had to play that first mission like

1:08:53

dozens and dozens of times. So I haven't played it since

1:08:55

but yeah Grand Theft Auto 5 is the game that

1:08:58

I own the most copies of and you're welcome

1:09:00

everyone It is because

1:09:03

of me. So all right. This one is a

1:09:05

little different Nathan's Sisodia

1:09:08

asks what podcasts do

1:09:09

you listen to other than NVC?

1:09:13

I'm curious because I don't actually listen

1:09:15

to the show. I hate the sound of my own voice. That's

1:09:18

not true. I love it I can't shut up

1:09:20

cat. What podcasts do you listen to outside

1:09:23

of NBC? Wow,

1:09:25

I really love acts of the blood God and In

1:09:31

all seriousness I

1:09:33

Have been listening to a lot of

1:09:35

news podcasts like today explained

1:09:38

in the intelligence It's football

1:09:40

season and it's a frickin habit that

1:09:42

I can't kick So I listened to

1:09:45

the Bill Simmons podcast don't judge me

1:09:47

Jesus. Oh my god Just never just

1:09:49

that just that one just the just

1:09:51

the guests aligns. It's an old habit that I can't

1:09:54

quite kick

1:09:55

the green arrow podcast because

1:09:57

I play fantasy Premier League

1:09:59

and recently I listen to a show called

1:10:01

Park Predators, which is about true

1:10:04

crime in a forest.

1:10:07

Like Yosemite, like

1:10:09

Yosemite and like all the national

1:10:11

parks. Yeah. True crime in a forest.

1:10:15

Yeah. So and hardcore history is very

1:10:17

good as well. Oh, my God, it's the best one. Oh,

1:10:19

and if

1:10:20

you like Buffy the vampire slayer, buffering

1:10:22

the vampire slayer, which

1:10:24

has an original song based on each

1:10:26

episode that they cover, it's a it's

1:10:29

a rewatch.

1:10:30

I cast very, very good. Loved it very much. Very

1:10:32

gay. That is a good spin on it also

1:10:35

to add a like a like

1:10:37

a song, an original song is such a good. I

1:10:39

can't believe they did it. They they did all seven

1:10:41

seasons plus more.

1:10:44

Wow. And when they did the musical episode, she

1:10:46

did an entire musical episode to go with the

1:10:48

musical episode. Wow. So good.

1:10:50

It's like, oh, I respect

1:10:53

that on principle alone.

1:10:54

Yeah, seriously. So awesome. Logan,

1:10:57

what about you? What podcast do

1:10:59

you listen to? I guess I'd have to recommend

1:11:01

a fantastic Nintendo podcast called Toadstool

1:11:04

Boardroom. That Toadstool Boardroom

1:11:06

is a great one. I love that. An excellent

1:11:08

little show. We talked a lot about Nintendo Live this week.

1:11:11

Yeah. So you check that out. But otherwise,

1:11:14

I love Doctor Who. So I listened to some Doctor

1:11:16

Who podcasts where they watch through the entire series

1:11:18

and review it episode by episode. Who back when

1:11:21

is the one that I listen to a lot? I'm huge

1:11:23

baseball fans. I listen to Seattle Mariners

1:11:25

podcasts and things like that.

1:11:27

Yeah, not really many other gaming podcasts

1:11:29

besides these ones here.

1:11:35

Yeah. All right. Reb, what do you got?

1:11:37

I'm not a big I know it's hypocritical of me

1:11:39

because I'm on a podcast, but I'm not a big podcast

1:11:42

listener. I tend to read books mainly instead of

1:11:44

listening to stuff. Oh, my

1:11:45

God. That's the nerdiest thing I know. I'm sorry. But

1:11:48

when I do, acts

1:11:50

of the blood God, I mean, not just because cats here,

1:11:52

but yeah, genuinely phenomenal stuff

1:11:54

over there. And they tend to play a

1:11:56

lot of games that I like, so that helps. I

1:11:59

also.

1:11:59

So not that long ago was listening

1:12:02

through both off book, which if

1:12:04

you like cats recommendation for musical stuff

1:12:06

off book is an improvised musical podcast.

1:12:09

Oh, wow. Okay, as a former

1:12:11

theater kid. Absolutely

1:12:14

incredible stuff watching people improvise

1:12:16

musicals or listening to

1:12:18

it, I guess. And then I also really liked

1:12:21

I was listening back through your wrong about they had

1:12:23

they had kind of a hosting change, I think a couple years

1:12:25

ago. And so the episodes are a little bit differently tailored

1:12:27

now. What you're wrong about is a really good

1:12:30

examination of like things that you a lot of

1:12:32

different topics about history and

1:12:35

things that were in the news and various

1:12:37

not not so far off and some not

1:12:39

that far off current events that you are

1:12:41

probably wrong in what you think about

1:12:44

how they went down. And

1:12:46

it's it's super interesting. So yeah, that's

1:12:48

nice. I've

1:12:51

I've significantly pared down my podcast

1:12:53

listening since I don't like I have

1:12:55

a job that requires my brain now. All my

1:12:57

previous jobs were, you know, like

1:13:00

didn't require a lot of thought. And

1:13:02

to avoid getting lost in my own thoughts, I would

1:13:04

just listen to like

1:13:06

eight hours of podcast content every every

1:13:09

single day. So I listened to basically every

1:13:11

video game podcast there was I have

1:13:13

scaled that back quite a bit.

1:13:15

And now I basically only listen to stuff when I'm running

1:13:17

or when I'm like driving

1:13:21

somewhere. I want to give a shout out because

1:13:24

I stole their their

1:13:26

shout out thing. Basically they call

1:13:28

it like Legend of the Week. But there's this is

1:13:30

called Going Deep with Chad and JT is

1:13:32

my favorite podcast. You might have seen these dudes on

1:13:35

viral videos. They go to like

1:13:37

City Council meetings in LA. They're like,

1:13:39

what up City Counts? My name's Chad Kroger.

1:13:41

I want to like talk about the they're

1:13:43

just they're

1:13:44

extremely smart.

1:13:46

They're actually stand up comics. So they are really

1:13:48

good at like improv. It's

1:13:49

a super funny show. I love it. I

1:13:52

love those dudes. If they played Nintendo,

1:13:54

I would be like, oh, we got to get them. We

1:13:56

got to get them on the show because they're so rad. So

1:13:58

and then the rest of them, like, yeah.

1:13:59

Carlin's Hardcore History is absolutely

1:14:02

amazing, but I very rarely have the six

1:14:04

and a half hours to listen to a whole... There

1:14:07

they are! Oh, that's Chad Kerger right

1:14:09

there. And his homeboy, John

1:14:11

Thomas. So

1:14:13

yeah, the guys are legends. I respect them

1:14:15

so much. Yeah. My

1:14:17

favorite... Yeah, Dan Carlin. Sorry, go ahead. Oh,

1:14:19

I was just gonna say Dan Carlin's Hardcore History, but what was your favorite?

1:14:22

Oh, sorry. I was gonna say my very favorite video

1:14:25

game podcast outside of Axl of the Blood God is Insert

1:14:27

Credit with Alex Jaffe

1:14:30

and Tim Rogers and that crew. Very

1:14:33

funny, but also very thoughtful commentary in

1:14:36

the games industry. I

1:14:38

love a funny and thoughtful video

1:14:41

game podcast. That's

1:14:43

what I used to listen to way back in

1:14:45

the day. When I first started listening to podcasts, I just

1:14:47

listened to every one-up podcast. Shout out

1:14:50

to one-up yours and Retroknot's, R.I.P.

1:14:52

Well, Retroknot's still exists, but you know. Yes,

1:14:55

it does. Oh, that's a good one. Retroknot's,

1:14:57

go listen to Retroknot's. Yeah. Cat, you're a regular

1:14:59

on Retroknot's. I'm on it a lot. Yeah,

1:15:02

which is I think where I first knew

1:15:05

you as a person outside of your writing. I was

1:15:07

like, oh. As a human. As a

1:15:09

human being. As not just written words

1:15:12

on a computer screen.

1:15:13

I was like... Seth, you were a blogger at one-up, right?

1:15:16

Yes, I was. I was a paid blogger. I wrote the

1:15:18

Netflix. That's how I knew about you. Oh,

1:15:20

I was just a... I was like, Seth,

1:15:22

maybe that's a familiar name. Wow. I

1:15:25

know, it's so weird. I see people from

1:15:28

one-up pop up. I'd

1:15:30

be like, where do I know that person's name? I'm like,

1:15:32

oh my God. They work at Scooter.

1:15:36

Terry, I'm forgetting his last name. Terry

1:15:38

Nguyen. He works over at Nintendo

1:15:40

or Golden. He's at Golden. He's senior

1:15:42

VP of relations for Nintendo

1:15:45

now. He used to host a podcast

1:15:48

at one-up way back in the day. Mike

1:15:50

Cruz and all these other... So many good. Tina

1:15:53

Sanchez and the odd cast. Darn it, Lee

1:15:55

is over at Raw Fury. He lives living

1:15:57

the life in Sweden. Shane Benhouse and

1:15:59

doing business. dev over at Sony. But

1:16:02

then like also one up has a lot of people

1:16:04

like Brian Interhar, the fragile eagle,

1:16:06

former one up guy directing

1:16:08

Spider-Man two. Yeah, it's crazy.

1:16:11

Can you believe that? It's crazy. Nintendo

1:16:14

had the sorry one up had the best single

1:16:16

collection of talent I've ever seen

1:16:19

at a gaming website. Yeah.

1:16:22

And you can see it.

1:16:23

And what all of those people went on to

1:16:26

do in the years that followed. So

1:16:28

shout out to them. Yeah, absolutely.

1:16:31

That's I wish I could. You know

1:16:33

what? Actually, if you can find those, go back

1:16:35

and listen to some of them. They hold up.

1:16:37

They're all on. Well, they're

1:16:39

all on archive.org. Hell

1:16:41

yeah. And if you want to go listen to

1:16:43

a very, very young pre

1:16:46

industry legend cat, you can go listen

1:16:48

to Active Time Babble.

1:16:50

Listen to me talk about Final

1:16:52

Fantasy 13 circa 2010. So,

1:16:55

um. So, man,

1:16:59

I'm on the Stalagic now. So, yeah, those

1:17:01

are the podcasts that we listen to and listened

1:17:04

to. I was devastated when one up

1:17:06

stop like making podcasts. I think

1:17:08

the besties is a great one. I think Red is trying

1:17:10

to recommend. Yeah, it's like recommending

1:17:13

the besties. And no, that is a good one. I

1:17:15

don't know if they still go by the format where like originally

1:17:18

it was conceived as like every week they would

1:17:20

they would

1:17:21

like nominate a game of the year and they'd be

1:17:23

like, oh, last week's game of the year is no longer it. And I

1:17:25

don't know if they still adhere to that format anymore. But those four

1:17:27

guys who are on that show have such

1:17:29

great chemistry and they're all super funny

1:17:31

and amazing anyway. So I'm going to ask

1:17:33

a question I think is pretty, pretty quick. Brandon,

1:17:36

Michael asks, What is your go to game to

1:17:38

play on your switch when you know you probably only have 10

1:17:41

to 15 minutes to play? Logan,

1:17:47

what is this? Splatoon three. Splatoon. Really?

1:17:49

Interesting. Yes. Yeah, because the Splatoon

1:17:51

three fixed all the queue issues that

1:17:54

the last ones had. It's really fast to get into a match now,

1:17:56

and I'm S rank in Splatoon three. So

1:17:58

I hop on, do a couple of league matches and.

1:17:59

Crop off. Damn, that's

1:18:03

impressive and incredible. Okay, Rev, what

1:18:05

about you? What do you play when you only have 10 or 15 minutes? You

1:18:08

wanna play a game?

1:18:09

Over the course of my wedding, a bunch

1:18:11

of me and my friends were really, really tired and zonked

1:18:13

out. And while I was zonked

1:18:16

out and unable to mentally comprehend anything,

1:18:18

someone introduced me to Picross. And so

1:18:21

as of two weeks ago, it's Picross

1:18:23

now. All of the Picross, anything Picross.

1:18:26

Here is so proud of you. I've been Picrossed,

1:18:27

Phil. The second Genesis one is so good. It's so good,

1:18:30

it's so good. Yeah, yeah, okay. That was

1:18:32

gonna be my answer. Cat, what about you? 10 to 15

1:18:34

minutes, you wanna play something?

1:18:36

I fire up Nintendo Switch Online

1:18:39

and usually end up playing something like Gradius

1:18:43

or I just end up running through a level in Mario 3

1:18:46

and then be like,

1:18:47

I've run through this level 500 times and

1:18:50

then I turn the thing off. So yeah,

1:18:52

really fun on airplanes and

1:18:55

actually something like Pokemon Puzzle League be

1:18:57

a lot of fun too. So so many good options. Also

1:19:00

Sonic 2, I've played through that, the first two levels of that

1:19:02

one so many times. I've never finished

1:19:04

it, but those two levels I've beaten a

1:19:06

hundred times. Okay, yeah.

1:19:09

I think puzzle games are like the perfect just

1:19:11

pick up for 10 or 15 minutes. And Picross is,

1:19:14

yeah, I love Picross. I haven't played

1:19:16

it a long time. And it's weird when I haven't

1:19:18

played for a long time, it takes me

1:19:20

like a day to get like Picross brain

1:19:23

back

1:19:23

where I'm able to do these sort of mental gymnastics

1:19:26

with my brain in order to figure it out. Like it's

1:19:28

hard, it's the same with like Sudoku. I have to

1:19:30

play Sudoku for like a day before I'm like, oh yeah,

1:19:32

I remember now where this part

1:19:35

of my brain was hiding all of this time.

1:19:37

So yeah, puzzle games, the

1:19:39

perfect pick up and go game

1:19:41

in my opinion, the classic games also

1:19:43

cat, that's a super, super good answer. Cause I do

1:19:45

the same. I'm just like, I'm just gonna play the game. Like

1:19:47

well, comfort food game that I've played a million times

1:19:50

cause I don't have

1:19:51

very much time to do it. And we

1:19:53

also don't have any more time.

1:19:55

On this week's episode of Nintendo

1:19:58

voice chat, I did it. I finally. I finally got a segue

1:20:00

without being like, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. So that

1:20:03

is it. That is all the time we have left for this week's NVC

1:20:05

before we go. We have a few favors to ask of you.

1:20:07

If you're watching us on YouTube, leave us a like and a nice

1:20:09

comment.

1:20:10

And I love it when people take that literally

1:20:12

and leave quote, nice comment. If you're listening

1:20:15

to us on a podcast app, please leave us a review,

1:20:17

help spread the good NVC word, and

1:20:19

we will be forever in your debt. Thank

1:20:22

you, Kat. Thank you, Logan. Thank you, Reb in the yellow jacket

1:20:25

for joining me today. And remember, NVC

1:20:27

is the only place where you can. It's

1:20:30

a thing. It's a thing. A thing.
