Description

In the winter of 2002, police discovered more than 300 bodies on one property in the tiny town of Noble, Georgia. What followed was one of the biggest and most expensive investigations in the history of the American South. To get to the bottom of this forgotten case, journalist Shaun Raviv visits a rural community with plenty of secrets.

He discovers the epic history of the well-respected family who owned the property, uncovers the fates of the bodies sent to a crematory called Tri-State, and searches for the mysterious man at the center of it all. And in the process, Shaun explores one of the most primal and vexing questions we face as human beings: What do the living owe the dead?

“A gripping, thoughtful, perfectly balanced meditation on death and our relationship to its practicalities” – The New Yorker, Top Podcasts of 2024

We don't know anything about the creators of this podcast yet. You can so they can be credited for this and other podcasts.
One of the great advantages of podcasts as a medium is that they can pick up the stories that have you going, 'oh yeah, that thing, that was in the news a while back, what happened with that?' Noble made the news, but there was much more to the story than a few short articles or TV clips could cover. Shaun Raviv does an excellent job of trying to answer an nearly unanswerable question; why would a undertaker fail so badly to dispose of the bodies entrusted to him? On the way, Raviv sensitively explores the impact on the town of Noble, the families involved and even wider society, pausing to wonder whether it would have been better for everyone if no-one had ever known about this... but we do know it happened, and he (and his team's) podcast does justice to everyone involved. Recommended.
while an uncomfortable topic to listen to this is exquisitely produced. Basically, if you're gonna talk about dead bodies, you want jason hoch and the campside folks at the helm to avoid sensationalism and help hit all the angles. (PS: Jason talks about the making of this and others in S2 Ep 26 of MY interview show: Insider Interviews.)
