On Septemebr 11th 1966 Peter Warner and his crew were out laying traps for crayfish near ‘Ata Island; when they noticed smoke rising from the side of the cliff. 

Aware the island was supposed to be uninhabited and bush fires were rare, he went to investigate. It was here that 6 wild boys came screaming down the cliff leaping into the ocean. 

They were teenage castaways that had been living on the island for 15 months after stealing a sailboat to adventure to Fiji.
