Producing the incredibly gripping podcast Up and Vanished is film maker Payne Lindsey’s current focus. The show centers around his investigation into the 2005 disappearance of Georgia Beauty Queen Tara Grinstead. His dedication to solving the case is inspiring and the story telling skills he employs to create each episode are incredible. During our conversation Payne and I discuss his beginnings as a film maker, the video “equipment” excuse, and of course his work on Up and Vanished.
• How Payne got into directing film and his early projects
• Payne’s Growth as a film maker and the never ending journey for perfection
• Payne does not own his own camera! Not being able to afford expensive equipment is not an excuse if you want to get into video.
• The different types of clients Payne works with and what his ultimate plan is for his career
• Payne’s motivation for launching an investigation into the disappearance of Tara Grinstead and starting the Up and Vanished podcast.
• The connection Payne feels to Tara Grinstead, her family, and the case
• The most challenging part of producing Up and Vanished
• Payne has plans to take on another case / investigation for Season 2 of Up and Vanished after the Tara Ginstead case.
• Key advice for story tellers of all kinds: maintain an objective approach, sharpen your tastemaking skills, don’t copy whats popular, accept and take into account constructive criticism, and always work on perfecting your story telling craft
