North Brother Island sits in the east river between Rikers and the bronx, a beautiful and haunting abandoned landscape being used as a bird sanctuary. In 1885, however, it housed more than beautiful birds. North Brother Island was home to a hospital for infectious diseases. It was also home to the infamous Mary Mallon, otherwise known as Typhoid Mary.
On this week’s episode, we discuss the infectious Ms. Mallon, typhoid fever, and the haunting of North Brother Island.
