Before we get stuck into today's episode,

0:02

here's a quick message from our sponsors, Paula

0:04

and Global X. Hey,

0:09

Owen. I've noticed a lot of investors are getting

0:11

paralyzed by the scary news headlines

0:13

and expert Acaster at the moment.

0:15

Absolutely, Kate. I've heard of investors

0:17

avoiding investing and sustaining in cash.

0:19

And it's understandable given how volatile the

0:21

market has been, one minute's up, next

0:23

minute's way down. For me, I think

0:26

it's pretty scary to think that some of our

0:28

dear listeners are waiting to quote unquote

0:30

buy the dip or basically a long term investment

0:32

decisions on something that they heard on a new

0:34

snippet.

0:34

So what can

0:35

investors actually do about it? Many studies

0:37

show that continuously buying into

0:40

a truly diversified portfolio is

0:42

one of the best decisions we can

0:43

make. And thanks to our partners at perla

0:45

dot com, investors can now use their auto

0:48

invest feature to regularly top up on

0:50

their favorite ETFs or

0:51

shares, and in doing so, tune out the

0:53

noise. Go to polo dot com or

1:55

1:56

We've got plenty to share with you in today's episode,

1:58

but if you wanna catch us on socials. Head

2:01

2:03

2:06

2:08

Just beware of the fake accounts. We'll never

2:10

DM you about trading strategies or So and

2:13

if it sounds a bit

2:14

weird, it's probably not us. And as one final

2:16

heads up before we get into the show, this podcast

2:18

contains general financial information only.

2:22

Kate Cam will welcome to this episode of the Australian

2:24

Finance podcast. Wonderful to be back

2:26

on. It's a bit of fun today's episode because

2:29

we've solicited. We've

2:31

got recommendations from everyone

2:33

in the community. We

2:35

selected twenty -- Yeah. -- people to receive

2:37

a free book In exchange,

2:40

so it's a bit of a barter system, quid pro

2:42

quo, in exchange for sending

2:44

us a money

2:45

hack. Yes. One way that they've earned

2:47

or made more money in the last

2:49

few years. So I have just

2:51

finished posting all twenty copies

2:53

of sort your money out by Shell

2:55

and Glen. It's a fantastic book.

2:57

And the time this episode goes live,

2:59

you've probably listened to my interview with Shell.

3:02

So if you haven't, go back and do that. But

3:04

we have twenty different winners

3:08

today -- Yep. -- and what they have to say. And there's

3:10

something interesting in here for everybody. I

3:12

think there's some great suggestions or something

3:14

that you could try. And it's just

3:16

great to hear what our community's doing because there's a lot

3:18

of things here that I just never think of.

3:20

Yeah. Yeah. And so great because then we get to share

3:22

with an audience Yeah. Hopefully,

3:24

thousands of other people that can then

3:27

use them. So and we can use them. So

3:29

it's fantastic. So thank you to everyone. You

3:31

can get in contact with us, make sure it's the real

3:33

accounts on Instagram. You can send us

3:35

an email, so on and so forth via the RASK website,

3:38

it's all there. So are we just gonna go

3:40

through these kind of twenty, maybe

3:43

pay a little bit

3:44

of, like, lip service to what if we've used them or what

3:46

we've done? Yep.

3:47

That's good idea. That's it. Yeah. Cool. Okay. And

3:49

thanks you once again everyone that has sent them in

3:51

if you find these useful and you want us to do more of these sessions,

3:53

let us know because we will do that.

3:56

So Kate, the first one comes from I'm just

3:58

gonna guess because we've we're only gonna use Instagram.

4:00

So I'm just gonna

4:01

guess, is it either ghost do's

4:03

is the instant.

4:04

I don't know as easy goes to odds. Well,

4:07

they oh,

4:10

no. Okay. So I got

4:12

that completely wrong. I don't know. Instagram.

4:14

But put me in charge of Instagram now. It's

4:16

okay. I sell all clothes and regularly

4:19

listen to finance

4:20

podcasts. Bonus so that I can

4:22

make better choices in the future. Years

4:24

ago, I tried mystery shopping but

4:26

found out that the activity took more time

4:29

than the reward was worth. What does that

4:31

mean? What's what's mystery shopping?

4:34

My

4:34

understanding, not that I've ever done it before

4:36

is you'd get paid and you get given

4:39

the money to go to the store and

4:40

Yeah. That's right. Product

4:41

and then report back on the product or servers

4:44

or some of the different options available there. Yeah. It's

4:46

gonna

4:46

become Minique's Noting comes

4:47

out. Form of market research. That's what

4:49

I thought. Like, there would be mystery shoppers to go and

4:52

test, like, the experience and

4:54

staff and all that sort of

4:55

stuff. You have to do that. And then I had friend

4:57

back in high school who would be mystery

4:59

shopper for the local council and go into

5:02

Lotto stores and things like that and ask to

5:04

buy cigarettes. She was underage.

5:06

And so she had people from

5:08

the council with her waiting in the outside

5:11

to see if people would sell her the cigarettes or

5:12

not. Oh, wow.

5:14

Okay. So there's a part

5:16

time slash casual slash I don't know what

5:18

to do. That

5:19

is that anymore. I'm not sure. But

5:21

that's a great one. EV goes to

5:23

us. So fantastic.

5:25

Now, Randy,

5:28

ran a nineteen. Did I get that right?

5:30

I'm gonna say

5:32

Ranorana nineteen.

5:34

Ranorana. Ranor? Nineteen. It doesn't

5:37

Okay. Alright. This this is the comment. This is

5:39

the entry. Spoke up when I noticed I wasn't

5:41

being remunerated correctly, fantastic.

5:43

That takes a lot of guts to do that.

5:46

Started investing to start growing passive

5:48

income stream with dividends to be reinvested. Wahoo,

5:51

identified my money goals and values,

5:53

and aligned my spending habits. And

5:55

savings with my goals to cut wasteful

5:57

habits. That's cool. I like it. Started

6:00

doing surveys and market research that seemed very

6:02

popular in the submissions for extra dollars.

6:05

And the return, you know, use those extra

6:07

dolls to invest. Alright. Finally,

6:09

taking extra shifts on weekends, that

6:12

is two per month to add to

6:14

an emergency fund and investments. This

6:16

is like

6:17

hustle, invest. Hustle,

6:19

invest. Yeah. Pretty cool. I love the

6:22

extra money was actually designated to a particular

6:24

purpose. Yeah. So sometimes it can feel

6:26

like if you're taking on extra work, you're doing

6:28

a whole heap of extra and you don't really know what

6:31

you've got to gain from it, but actually

6:33

saying I'm gonna direct the money from doing this

6:36

extra side hustle or this extra shift on the

6:38

weekend directly to my emergency fund to

6:40

reach my goal of ten thousand dollars or

6:42

to hit my first investment,

6:44

then you get to go, okay, this work

6:46

that I did and the reason I felt so exhausted

6:49

actually paid off. And okay, maybe I've hit

6:51

my emergency fund goal and

6:53

I don't wanna do that extra work or side hustle

6:55

anymore and I want bit more life on the

6:57

weekends. You can find a better balance. Yeah.

6:59

I like it. Cheeseburger

7:03

has written in and said, quitting my

7:05

last workplace that undervalued me

7:07

is a common theme here and found a job

7:09

somewhere that values me correctly and

7:12

also is interested in investing in

7:14

and helping me grow. Wonderful.

7:16

Like, both of these submissions. Huge.

7:19

Yeah. We we did give away the career books or

7:21

your career out. And

7:24

these two things touch on something that is often

7:27

Cariad, very hard for people to do. That is to say,

7:29

you know what? I'm worth more. I'm gonna go somewhere else.

7:31

It's a major decision. Yeah. Even

7:33

if you don't like where you

7:34

are, it's a major decision. So kudos. And

7:36

even your workplace investing in you

7:38

and your growth rather than just being a one

7:40

way Street. You're spending a lot of time at

7:42

that workplace. Sure they're giving you a paycheck,

7:44

but are they actually valuing your time,

7:47

your contributions? Are they helping you with professional

7:49

development. Maybe they don't have a budget for

7:51

it, but are they at least supporting your goals

7:53

and your further learning? Yeah. One

7:55

of the piece of advice, I got, I was very fortunate

7:58

one day that I had the choice of

8:00

two employers. They both wanted me, they both

8:02

offered me jobs, And so they

8:04

both kind of went into bat to try and

8:07

have me on their team. Right? I was very fortunate. This

8:09

doesn't often happen. And one of them said

8:11

to me, don't take the job that's

8:13

going to get you the next job. It's

8:15

the worst thing you can do. Be happy now. Take the

8:17

good job now. Because they

8:19

said promises are the cheapest

8:21

form of a guarantee. Mhmm. And

8:23

to it turns out that was correct. Because a lot

8:25

of the times you go for these jobs, which should sound great.

8:28

And on paper, they look wonderful, but

8:30

they're not all they're cracked up to be. Yeah. Whereas

8:32

in this case, cheeseburger, hopefully,

8:35

that's the first name, cheeseburger. Love

8:37

that.

8:38

Said, got the job, and

8:40

they're investing, and they're helping me grow.

8:43

Kudos. Massive, massive props to that.

8:45

Okay. January the next

8:46

one. Alright. Next one from Camkos fourteen.

8:49

I've been able to turn two of my hobbiespassions

8:52

into both the side hustle and

8:54

use my knowledge to increase my primary

8:56

jobs wage. I turned

8:58

my passion for manicured lawns and

9:00

gardening into a great side hustle offering

9:03

lawn plans and vegetable growing

9:05

guides for sale via my social media channels

9:07

I was also able to use my understanding of

9:09

technology to become a subject matter

9:12

expert and play a vital role in a system

9:14

implementation significantly increasing

9:17

my wage in the process. So side

9:19

hustles and increasing your nine to five

9:21

income. Yeah. So they've done three things here.

9:23

So they've got they're obviously manicured

9:26

lawns like gardening. That's cash

9:28

monies, sorry, ATO. Second

9:31

thing, is, like, they have something that they can

9:33

sell online, which is, like, a guide

9:35

for, like, vegetables and lawn plants. If we

9:37

because you should probably let us know that this as

9:40

you. We'll share whatever it is.

9:42

And you can hopefully sell

9:44

some more because I would be interested in this.

9:46

Someone who wants to grow vegetables, I would be interested

9:49

in this. And the third thing is you

9:51

actually made yourself more valuable at work,

9:53

which is oftentimes the biggest

9:56

free kick. And it sounds like very

9:58

deliberate

9:58

too. So a lot of people just go through

10:00

the motions. This was very deliberate, which is great.

10:02

Yeah. And there's oftentimes in your workplace

10:05

where you can identify there's deliberate shifts

10:07

or up skills you can make where they

10:09

will pay more, especially in larger organizations,

10:12

sometimes just getting an extra diploma

10:14

is enough to get kicked into the next salary

10:17

band

10:18

or doing some professional development supports

10:20

your case for a pay rise. Totally.

10:24

The next one from Ollie and Millie says

10:27

taught classes online on

10:29

Skillshare. I'm assuming Skillshare is like a

10:31

demi? Is it? Or Yeah. It's similar. You I

10:33

think it's the one where you pay a monthly subscription,

10:35

you can access everyone's.

10:38

Oh, so they would pay someone would pay Let's

10:41

say the three of us here and then x off of the camera here,

10:43

the three of us would have a skill, where teachers,

10:45

we go online, and then other people that have subscribed

10:47

to that website,

10:48

Can can

10:49

jump into that webinar. Crochet course. Crochet

10:51

course from Munich. Fantastic. Would you would wanna

10:53

There's a good side hustle for you Munich. Right?

10:55

A and film a crochet course.

10:57

Crochet course. And you can use these cameras right

10:59

now. Skills. Yeah. So you can

11:01

combine multiple passions and talents

11:03

together. Yeah. There we go.

11:05

Look at all this creativity we're getting done

11:07

with here. Okay. Next one comes from drifting

11:10

with fire who says I have

11:12

had a little side hustle, the last few years,

11:14

making nappy cakes for baby

11:16

showers and gifts, etcetera, great

11:18

as creative outlet due to the science

11:21

nature of my work, mhmm, and

11:23

has given us a bit of extra

11:25

cash to afford holidays while studying

11:27

and now is extra cash flow for our own little

11:29

pub. Now Kate, you and I

11:31

were a bit confused about what exactly

11:34

a nappy cake was. Turns

11:36

out it is, if I'm not mistaken, it

11:38

is a cake shaped

11:41

like thing of nappies. So put the nappies together

11:43

and make it look like a cake. Yes? Okay.

11:45

I'm getting the getting the notes Yeah. So I

11:47

didn't notice the

11:48

existence. No one's given us a nappy joke

11:50

yet, but I mean, there's so many

11:52

creative ideas. And if you see

11:55

Some side hustles that I've heard

11:57

about that become really successful. We've just been

11:59

a really popular gift with friends and family

12:01

that no one else seems to be creating

12:04

or making. And then everyone, your friends are family

12:06

love it. And then their their friends are

12:08

saying, can you make me one as

12:09

well? And then side vessels just sprout out

12:11

from there. That's

12:12

when you know. Right? You got the the the the market.

12:14

You can test your idea. K. Next one?

12:16

The next one from Josie Barrera was I

12:18

started my own mobile mass a large

12:20

company. And when I didn't have patience,

12:22

I do food delivery

12:24

too. The hustle is real. So

12:27

Two things that I never thought would go together,

12:30

massaging and food delivery. Well,

12:32

they both involve a vehicle. That

12:35

This is

12:35

true. Mobile

12:36

massaged

12:36

pay off your Make it a tax deduction.

12:39

I've seen more of a messaged companies pop

12:41

up in the last few years and some there's

12:44

one that has lots of people on the one

12:46

service. So you can just say, I want a massage

12:48

at this time at this area and they'll allocate masseuse

12:51

to. Mhmm. And they'll drive over home and

12:53

bring all the equipment and

12:54

everything, so you don't have to go off to a day's fire,

12:56

and they're often quite a bit more affordable. I would

12:58

probably do that, to be honest. Although there is

13:00

something nice about you going to those, like, an

13:02

endodus bar, one of those spot

13:04

things. And I feel like they put, like, the

13:06

the oils in the air, and it just instantly relaxes

13:09

you. Yeah. To point where I pray for sleep.

13:11

So Yeah. If your house is a bit noisy, it

13:13

might not

13:13

be the right fit, but that's quite cool. That's really

13:15

cool. Yeah. Really like that.

13:17

Really really like that. So The

13:19

next question comes from Tom

13:23

Thacks or Tom Tacks. Tom

13:26

Tacks? So

13:28

side hustle as a private drum

13:30

teacher, like it.

13:32

Yeah. I don't have any of those skills. No.

13:36

I I imagine the parents would love that

13:38

when you walk

13:39

around, you, like, got the drum kit. Let's get

13:41

into it. Yeah. I remember growing up and doing

13:43

the other lessons I just walked down to

13:45

the local local teacher's house

13:47

and she'd be running lessons all Saturday in

13:49

our living room. Yeah. Cool. Yeah. And it's just

13:51

sort of That was a cash in hand job back

13:53

then. But, yeah, she could get through

13:55

maybe ten students in a

13:57

day. And so if you're good in an instrument,

13:59

that might be something to consider. Well,

14:00

great way. You're creative in that way, you can make

14:02

a bit of extra cash. So great one,

14:05

Tom t hacks. Correct.

14:07

The next one from s p freighter

14:10

is unskilled in current career

14:12

and moved into mentoring and training new

14:14

starters. I've grown personally

14:16

and hope to improve from where I am, learning

14:18

to invest,

14:20

to increase to increase my pay

14:22

is where I'm stuck, so I need some guidance.

14:25

Yeah. So you basically you're

14:27

trying to move into a role

14:29

where you can create that kind of responsibility

14:32

without actually having it, which is really

14:34

cool because this isn't an attempt

14:37

just to make yourself more valuable to

14:39

your employer, which is can

14:41

only lead to better things and

14:43

learning, growing And then hopefully,

14:46

in this case, maybe that's the final thing to do

14:48

is earning more. Yeah. And once you have

14:50

those on your CV, then you can shop around

14:52

if you want to, which is great. Brenton

14:56

Michel. Michel says,

14:58

I have monetized my debt. Here we go. This is

15:00

interesting. Ranted out my home

15:02

and moved into a van. Instant

15:04

fifty percent payrollized as Brendan.

15:06

Something you would do. Wait.

15:09

So he's got a debt on his hand,

15:11

like a mortgage. Yeah. Most of us. Yes. Of

15:13

us do have that? Yeah. It rented it out

15:15

and then moved into a van. Well,

15:19

Brandon, if that's your if that's how you wanna

15:21

live your life. Awesome. It's basically

15:23

like he's got a property portfolio of

15:25

one. I would say the

15:28

tax person inside of me does say, Brenton,

15:30

Be careful because if you do

15:32

decide to sell that property, it may no longer

15:35

be considered your principal place of residence,

15:37

meaning you may no longer get capital gains

15:39

tax discount if you decide to sell. So

15:41

make sure you speak to your accountant about that and what

15:43

is and isn't the best way to go about it

15:45

from a tax

15:46

perspective. But hey, who can complain with a fifty

15:48

percent

15:48

pay rise cake? Van Life's a big thing in

15:50

the US. Are

15:51

you gonna buy a

15:52

van? I don't think I could fit

15:54

all my books into the van. Maybe

15:55

need a second van. I can

15:56

barely try that for the van. Yeah. I'd need

15:58

a I

15:58

bought a library. A big big library would be

16:01

Then you could just rent out the books on the road. Anyway,

16:03

next one. The next one from

16:05

Rebecca

16:06

Elano. I've made more money

16:08

over the last few years by doing pet sitting.

16:10

I can work from home at someone else's home

16:13

and an extra money drink might

16:14

otherwise just be doing it my own home anyway.

16:16

Plus cute pets are involved, so that's always

16:18

a plus. I

16:19

do like that. Have done this myself.

16:21

Yeah. Super easy. Like, what do they say?

16:23

Like, it's around, like, thirty percent of your wage

16:25

typically goes for your living quarters. So

16:28

if you can get rid of that even just for a little

16:30

while.

16:30

Yeah. I

16:30

think a lot of trouble

16:31

working from home full time.

16:34

Yeah. You

16:34

just call like pets.

16:35

Yeah. If you don't like pets, that's probably not the

16:38

tip for you. No. Or if you're allergic.

16:40

No. I don't wanna do that

16:41

either.

16:42

You probably need

16:42

to do that. In

16:43

case you can't line things up perfectly? Yeah.

16:45

That's the key thing. You do need that backup. There was a few

16:47

of these comments in there. You do want the backup so

16:49

that if you can't make one

16:51

house stay, connect with another one. There's a few days in

16:54

between you and somewhere to go. So one

16:56

maybe you have Brenton could lend you his van.

16:59

So one way I have earned money

17:01

in the last few years says

17:04

enigma, enigma

17:08

to? I'm very bad at this. Yes.

17:10

We're doing odd jobs for friends and neighbors.

17:13

I have a variety of handy skills such

17:15

as cleaning, painting, and minor home repairs.

17:18

I've been able to earn money by

17:20

offering my services to people in community and

17:22

helping them with projects around their

17:24

homes. This sounds straight up like an air type

17:26

person that just does it without air tasker.

17:28

Yeah. You probably save quite a bit in fees by

17:30

just Not

17:31

causing air tasker. Directly

17:32

with the community and I've seen people do a

17:34

lot have good success doing letter box

17:36

drops just saying

17:37

-- Yeah. -- I'm not a professional plumber or

17:39

electrician, but I'm just a person that

17:41

has those hands -- Suburban

17:43

skills. -- like a skills. And I've got all those tools

17:45

you might need.

17:46

Yeah. If I needed something with an electric

17:48

drill, Well, I don't have one of those. So I'd need

17:50

to get someone else to help me whether was a friend

17:52

or family member. And there's a lot of those

17:54

things at home where you don't need a tradie where

17:56

you just want someone that knows

17:58

what they're

17:59

doing. Yeah.

18:00

Towerac. And you're like -- Got it. --

18:01

and can bring some nails with them and just,

18:03

like,

18:03

sort it

18:04

out. Or tell you at least what you need or who

18:06

to call. Yeah. Or you can just get your dodgy

18:08

uncle who thinks he knows what he's doing and then

18:10

he comes with and then makes

18:12

more trouble. Anyway,

18:15

a niggmater. Great one. I do like

18:18

this close to my heart. So, underscore

18:20

j a dot alexander says, about to

18:22

go on maternity leave. So working extra

18:24

shifts in ED whilst pregnant

18:27

is struggle in my is a

18:29

struggle in itself. To

18:31

buffer up our emergency fund and a little extra

18:33

to invest while I'm not working, then

18:36

goes on to say this book would be so helpful for

18:38

my current career crisis. Got it on

18:40

reserve at a local library. Well, guess what? Now

18:42

you don't have to. So you've got it

18:44

in the

18:44

mail. It's yours forever. You can regift

18:46

it if you want. With thoughts, Yeah.

18:49

I think, like, it's good to have

18:51

a bit of extra money, especially if you're taking

18:53

a significant time, potentially,

18:56

off work, having a bit of extra cash

18:58

put aside, I think would give you a great

19:01

sort of sleep at night factor bolstering that

19:03

emergency fund whenever you have if

19:05

you know in advance that you've got a big life

19:07

change or event happening, whether you're

19:09

moving careers, having a kid that

19:11

seems like a pretty big life event for me or even

19:13

traveling. Like the more you can have in that emergency

19:15

fund just for peace of mind, or even just

19:18

for spending money if you're not

19:19

Yeah. -- if you're going back to one

19:21

income instead of two or maybe

19:23

one income to half an

19:24

income, having a bit of extra

19:26

money put aside just to just move things

19:29

along a bit. Yeah. Being pregnant

19:31

in the ED, go to a minute. One part

19:33

of me is like, whoa. That's crazy. Like, I've

19:35

seen good stuff for doing that. The other side's like, if you're gonna

19:37

do it, that's probably where you wanna do it. So

19:41

so I'm kind of like, that's great. Like, just doing

19:44

it. Getting it done. And like he

19:46

said, a lot of the a lot of the times that these

19:48

money hacks Kate, we say, well,

19:50

I believe, at least, that In

19:53

order to get ahead financially, you do

19:55

have to do more than average. So if you're just gonna

19:57

do the average thing, you're probably gonna get average results.

19:59

The saying goes, but if you really wanna

20:01

get ahead and you really wanna get ahead quickly,

20:04

you gotta

20:04

work. You gotta

20:05

hustle.

20:05

So good one. Next one. Next

20:08

one from f underscore one, looking

20:10

out for scholarship and award opportunities

20:12

as a university

20:13

student, especially as so many go

20:15

to waste.

20:16

That's a great point, isn't it? Yeah. And

20:18

I I remember the uni saying last year,

20:20

like, a huge amount of the scholarships no

20:23

one actually applies for. Some a

20:25

lot of them have conditions. So --

20:27

Yeah. -- some are only for certain demographics.

20:32

Yeah. Or socioeconomic groups.

20:34

But it's worth looking into the

20:37

more criteria the less people apply.

20:40

Because often they're not known about. And usually,

20:42

your Uni has a huge database of

20:44

scholarships. So just look through what

20:46

factors apply to you and give them a go.

20:48

Sounds like even if they don't apply, just

20:51

apply anyway.

20:52

Very nice. There knows. They got no one.

20:54

They might be like, well, freaking get off.

20:57

But this is great. And I don't know if you're

20:59

from regional places as well, there's often a lot

21:01

of scholarships, not just financial scholarships,

21:04

but also for places. Where

21:06

they reserve a number of places just for

21:08

people from regional

21:08

Cariad, even if you don't get the marks for example.

21:10

Yeah. So back to most of it.

21:13

Yeah. And Unis also have sort of bursaries

21:15

or subsidies if you're going to do overseas exchanges,

21:18

they might have a few thousand dollars allocated to

21:20

that if you get a

21:21

placement. So worth having a look into.

21:24

Isaac Bate ninety eight says, side

21:27

hustle, book buying and selling

21:29

on Facebook. You guys along with paper

21:31

got me into long term investing. Whoo. And

21:33

now micro investing for increased auto

21:35

investing.

21:36

Lots of investing.

21:37

Lots of investing. Pretty sure Isaac

21:39

just chucked in as many investing references.

21:43

It worked on me. Yeah. I think this

21:45

is great. So why not?

21:47

Facebook marketplace, sell stuff, especially

21:50

now. People just haven't seem to have

21:52

like right now, some people seem to have money that

21:54

they wanna buy stuff

21:55

secondhand. A lot of a lot of fifty

21:57

people go in secondhand lately, so, like,

21:59

most of it.

22:00

Second easy. And people that get

22:02

stuff from garage sale and then actually know

22:04

the value of the item and then resell it on

22:06

eBay or grocery. Yeah. Because I think

22:08

I'm gonna think Yeah. Especially like furniture and hats and

22:10

stuff. Yeah. Because it's a hassle to sort of upload

22:12

things online. And if someone's getting rid of a whole household

22:15

of staff at garage sale, they're not gonna

22:17

probably, properly price everything. And

22:19

so that could be enough gyny for you and

22:21

also exercise on the weekend walking around to

22:23

the local garage

22:24

sales. Yeah. I mean, it's actually really cool.

22:26

If you're handy with a paintbrush and, like,

22:28

to some basic, like, tools. You can

22:30

actually dust up some really nice furniture

22:33

and it's really coming back in now. So get

22:35

around

22:35

it. Next one. Next one from Miguel

22:37

is I haven't made more money, so

22:39

need that book. Sorry. Miguel? You

22:42

got the book. You've got the book. You've got the book. Twelve

22:44

months time, let us know how you've made or

22:46

earned more money. Yeah. Love it. Next

22:48

one? The next one from semi semi

22:50

semi is backing myself

22:53

when I know I've gone over and above at

22:55

work and putting a case forward for the pay rise,

22:58

binging on my millennial money to help

23:01

pumping up with all the knowledge, best approach

23:03

and energy before going into it, and

23:05

my millennial career podcast

23:07

is also fantastic for career related

23:10

stuff because you've got experts on

23:12

that that specifically talk about

23:14

careers. Yep. Love it. So

23:16

it's about just being bold

23:19

and saying, I'm gonna do this. I'm worth more, you

23:21

know, especially now it's like a even though

23:23

unemployment's pretty low. So what does that mean?

23:25

Well, it's probably the easy time to switch jobs. you

23:27

are gonna do it, you could probably have to do it now.

23:29

Also, putting that case forward. I think that's really

23:31

important. And then also, yeah, backing yourself whether

23:33

that's because you've you know all your stuff,

23:35

you know what you've done, you've got your case, you've

23:37

practiced with a friend or a family having that

23:39

conversation and pushing back if there's Yeah.

23:42

If people are just

23:43

saying, oh, there's no budget this year, what are

23:45

some alternative ways you can move

23:47

forward? Yeah. I mean, if you've done nothing all

23:49

year, then don't go in there all guns blazing. mean,

23:52

like, this tomato wanna payer us. Yeah.

23:54

It's probably not gonna work out. So Caleb

23:57

Blamfury, says no.

24:00

I got that completely wrong. Caleb Larry,

24:02

that's the one. I'm

24:05

John comes to my parents to get. Okay.

24:08

I'd That's why Olin

24:10

doesn't run Instagram giveaway.

24:13

I'd bloody love to win one of these,

24:15

really enjoyed and was helped so

24:17

much by Glen's first book. Fantastic. Sort

24:19

your money out. The way

24:22

I've made more money is by starting my own

24:24

businesses as a sole And I have been

24:26

toying with the idea of expanding and employing

24:28

others, thank you all for your podcast and Australian

24:30

business podcast. About this. Cool.

24:32

No worries. So avid Acaster avid

24:35

reader, Caleb. Good one.

24:37

Side hustles aren't for everyone. We've talked a lot

24:39

about them on the show now. Don't need to

24:41

do them forever. You can do them for a short

24:43

period of time just to juice that emergency fund start

24:45

investing or pay down

24:47

debt.

24:47

Or your side hustle can become your full time

24:49

job. Otherwise, it becomes an empire and then you take

24:51

over the world. Okay. Have employees.

24:54

Yes. Then you start having

24:55

employees. Good one. Foxy's

24:58

lady says. I've earned

25:00

more money by utilizing my courtyard

25:03

and patio with lots of edible plants like

25:05

herbs and veggies. I use marketplace to

25:07

get pots and plants either free or cheap

25:09

and collected seeds from beverages

25:11

from the

25:12

supermarket, I can then sell seedlings or

25:14

excess plants.

25:15

That's super cool. Yeah.

25:18

Especially if you'd like If

25:19

it's all kind of patty, you don't need a huge amount

25:21

of space to kind of do this activity and

25:24

well, I was just at the farmers market the other day and it was

25:26

very popular buying those pots of small

25:28

basil and various seedlings and herbs that

25:30

everyone loves that

25:31

stuff. I've got one of those four dollar bezels. From,

25:33

like, Willie's or something. And it's like, six

25:36

months. I'm surprised. Every time I'm like, that's dead.

25:38

The Basel just keeps keeps keeps keeps

25:40

keeps coming back. That's a good one.

25:42

I love that. Yeah. Especially

25:44

in in the southern climate, pumpkins,

25:47

potatoes, zucchinis, up north, anything.

25:49

So that's good. And last one,

25:51

here we go. From Spencer James

25:54

twenty thirteen. After

25:56

hours and on weekends, I've offered TV

25:58

brackets slash mounting via an outsourcing

26:01

task platform It's surprising how

26:03

that extra income in completing something

26:05

you enjoy builds into something substantial

26:07

over

26:07

time. Like you just said, cut. Yeah.

26:09

And I think that's a great example that your

26:11

side hustle doesn't need to be this brand new

26:13

product or service

26:14

that you have to think of. Like, is there a

26:16

skill that you already have that

26:19

all your friends and family are asking you to come

26:21

around and do for them for free --

26:22

Yeah. -- that you could monetize. So

26:24

something like this -- Put

26:25

in a bracket on a wall. Most people will get

26:28

the TV and go, oh, don't know how to get on the wall

26:30

or do not wanna touch their wall for fear of

26:32

stuffing it up or don't have the right tools.

26:34

Yeah. And so just you can be

26:36

the person who comes in, assesses the wall

26:38

and solves the problem for

26:40

them, that is very valuable to people in your

26:42

community. I love these ideas because

26:44

I love anything that makes a bit

26:46

of extra cash. And like you said before,

26:48

know what it's for. Yeah. If you just wanna go out

26:50

on a Saturday night, you're gonna spend more than you think

26:52

you should. Pay it off with

26:54

something like this like beforehand. Earn the

26:56

money. Or if you wanna invest a bit more, or you

26:58

wanna, I don't know, save in a bonus one. You wanna

27:00

go to Europe? You wanna it's

27:02

crazy. Yeah. But I also love a lot of

27:04

these things connect you with your community.

27:06

Yeah. A lot

27:07

of times we are looking for more connection and

27:09

to meet more people in our community. And this

27:11

keeps things like, I love these platforms

27:14

like Airtaska when you're working with people local

27:16

in your community, and you're actually getting to

27:18

know that person when they come over to help

27:20

you with this task. And whether it's a recurring

27:22

thing like a drum less than every

27:24

week or if it's a once off getting the TV on

27:26

the wall. It brings

27:29

conversation and it's not just using an anonymous

27:31

platform, necessarily. You never know the person.

27:33

Yeah. Love I I

27:36

I'm gonna particularly call out Brenton once again

27:38

with the van. Brenton, please send us a photo

27:40

of your van. Like, if you've, like, done the

27:42

whole MTV cribs for you. I'm feeling

27:44

bad. Oh, my goodness. What

27:47

does it look like? I can't yeah. Let let me know

27:49

because I haven't been trade. Yeah. But these are all

27:51

awesome. And They start from the very small,

27:53

as you can see, making

27:55

nappy cakes. Suddenly we have a note, right

27:57

up to move it out of your house, to maybe

27:59

something that becomes, you know

28:01

Changing jobs. Yeah. Changing jobs and careers.

28:03

It's crazy. So thank you

28:05

to everyone that has sent this if you do like

28:08

these community based episodes, even if you didn't

28:10

submit anything on Instagram, please let us know because

28:12

we'll have to do more of them. The hipster

28:14

fun. Maybe Kate can

28:16

be in charge of pronouncing the names next

28:18

time. Yes. Instagram

28:20

handles are a little bit harder sometimes than names

28:22

because you're not really sure if it's a a made

28:24

up word or a name or whatever it is. I

28:27

started pretty strong with EV goes too.

28:30

Yeah. Yeah. And and you

28:32

just got better from there on. Okay,

28:35

Kate. This is actually heaps of fun. I really enjoy this.

28:38

And before we go on, did this podcast

29:22

contain personal financial advice just for

29:24

me? Absolutely not, Kate. Our

29:26

podcast actually contains general financial

29:28

information only. What that means is the information

29:31

does not take into account your financial

29:33

needs, goals, objectives, or even your situation.

29:36

So because of that, It's important that you

29:38

consider if the information is appropriate

to you and your needs before acting on

29:42

it. If that all sounds a bit confusing

29:44

or you're still working out what your needs are, it's

29:46

a great idea to consult a licensed
