Awesome stories and conversation, never disappointed.
Jennings and Roderick have a gift for picking out little side alleys of history and spinning an hour or so haveing delightfully witty back and forth conversations about the chosen topic with plenty of amusing tangents and observations about contemporary life. If you think Jennings is just some kind of trivia machine...if you think that a Jeopardy champion couldn't possible be an thoughtful and funny and wise person, because he must be too busy speed-reading encyclopedias to cram facts into his noggin...okay, I admit I used to think these things about Jennings, because I never actually watched him on Jeopardy, and even if I had, the show doesn't let the full person really shine through. Jennings shines through here, as does his partner Roderick, a former alternative rock band leader who, like Jennings, may expand you idea of how interesting and errudite a rock musician can be. This has become one of my very favorite podcasts, because the topics and points made often float around my head for days or weeks, unlike most current affairs, news, and political shows. It's entertaining armchair history...no original scholarship, no interviews with experts...but it's as much about the friendship and worldviews of the hosts as it is about the topics they bandy about.
You know those conversations you have with a friend, sitting across from one another, explaining something in detail, getting distracted, them know little bits along the way. This is that. Two friends trading topics ranging from biographies of semi famous or flat out unknown people from history, to theoretical concepts, to yours of clothes. All preserved as a snap shot of our modern day, for the aliens, higher evolutionaries, or whatever comes after the impending doom of humanity.
Bits of trivia and history at the same time. The hosts are very knowledgeable and entertaining.
Back in their day Ken Jennings was a celebrity only rivaled to Michael Jackson. He was most famously recognized by his outstanding 74 win streak on our favorite color show Jeopardy! We all know John unsurprisingly by his time fronting for the earth based indie rock band The Long Winters. Did you know they hosted a podcast? Omnibus is a comical dive into the odd stories with two good friends. Topics like Billy the pygmy hippo, The angels of mon, The Olympic Marathon of 1904 and so much more. The two co hosts not only are hysterical with banter between the two but are also nerdy and insightful on the topics they have decided need to be recorded for historical purposes. - Podcast Junkie
