On with Mario Lopez. All

0:03

right, joining me on the phone from the band Heart and and

0:05

Nancy Wilson. Welcome to the show. Thank

0:08

you. Are you guys excited for the I

0:10

Heart Radio Music Festival this weekend? Yeah

0:13

sure, yeah yeah. Well the

0:15

Love a Live Tour is going to stop at the festival

0:17

this weekend, and and you know it's probably

0:20

gonna be a bit of a shorter set for you guys. So how do

0:22

you pick the songs that you're going to play

0:24

at a festival like this? Um, we're

0:26

just we have five

0:29

songs, and we wanted to just

0:31

show a good cross section of what we've been doing

0:33

on the road and so and we also

0:36

wanted to use our our

0:38

production to its best advantage, you know, in

0:40

that short time. So we chose

0:43

songs that mostly people know and

0:45

that the band sounds great on

0:47

and make a good little mini

0:50

set with lots of

0:52

light surprises and well

0:55

stuff that's awesome. Well, this is this

0:57

is Heart's first tour in three years.

0:59

Have been enjoying your time on the road

1:02

this go around? Oh sure,

1:04

Yeah. Show has been really

1:07

really exciting, and everybody's

1:10

kind of turning out for the shows, and so

1:12

the energy has been really big and very

1:15

positive, and the music sounds great,

1:17

the band is you know, having a

1:20

good time, and it's uh,

1:22

I don't know. I keep watching this my

1:24

fans footage and stuff on

1:27

Instagram and it's a really cool

1:29

looking shows.

1:33

Um I wish, yeah, you know, I

1:35

could go out in the audience and actually see

1:38

the show. It looks really pretty

1:40

amazing that that's awesome and and

1:42

uh, as far as the audience, Um, how

1:45

have you seen the audience change over the

1:47

years? Are people bringing their kids two shows now

1:49

and all of that. Yeah, it's like

1:52

it started maybe I don't know, back

1:54

in the in the early two thousand's.

1:58

The audience has started to be really a multigenerational

2:01

and there are people, you

2:03

know, the older people are it makes

2:06

them they're too tired to come to a rock shold

2:08

now, so some athadia they

2:11

still come and their kids

2:13

and their kids kids come. It's it's really

2:15

cool. It's it's not like nailed

2:17

down to anyone's demographic. It's it's

2:19

pretty wide. Yeah, it's got to be really really

2:22

I was gonna say, it's gotta be really awesome for you guys to see

2:25

multiple generations just loving your

2:27

songs. Well, yeah, for sure, and

2:30

more increasingly that way. So,

2:32

like Anne said in the last you know, quite

2:35

a few years and there's really

2:38

new young fans that have just discovered

2:40

I think, you know a lot

2:43

of UM. But the younger people are

2:45

really excited about fans that are

2:47

up playing live, that are really

2:50

playing lives that they're especially singing and

2:52

playing and it's not in the

2:54

box as they call it. So you

2:56

know, it's a real authentic aut

2:59

experience, is that you know,

3:01

it's human around the edges.

3:03

Sometimes it's not exactly perfect, as

3:06

we're humans. And I said, that's requesting

3:09

UM things for a lot of

3:11

the young people to see that. It's pretty

3:13

amazing to see some of the original

3:16

songs that we wrote back in

3:18

the seventies, like crazy on You UM

3:22

really plays well

3:24

in two thousand nineteen. I

3:26

mean it just it may as well have

3:28

been written yesterday, you know. I

3:31

mean that's I mean, that's that

3:33

definitely says something about your music that it holds

3:35

up, you know, for that long, and it could

3:37

apply at any point like that's that's

3:39

a huge thing. Getting back to the i R Radio Music Festival

3:41

for a second, Are there any other artists that you

3:44

guys are actually looking forward to maybe sneaking

3:46

out to see a little of well

3:48

as much of them as we would have

3:50

time to go see. I mean, you

3:52

know, a whole bunch of cool people

3:54

on them, you know so well.

3:57

I mean I would be excited to see any or all

3:59

of them, pretty much like it'll be exciting

4:02

to see all those all those pop

4:04

groups with all the dancers, you know, because

4:07

it's such a it's such a thick

4:09

now, you know, it'll be great to see

4:11

it at the top of its game. Yeah,

4:13

of course. Um, so, so you

4:16

guys are wrapping this tour in about three weeks. What are

4:18

the plans after the tour is done. Um,

4:21

we have some offers, but we we're

4:23

just trying to keep our eye on the ball

4:25

right now and just do the like,

4:28

you know, we have a whole other month

4:30

almost to go, and

4:32

we just want to concentrate on

4:34

that and just put everything into that either

4:36

and see what offers are after figure it out

4:38

after you go

4:41

home and go to sleep. How

4:44

much sleep do you get when you're on the road, Do you do you get

4:46

enough sleep? No? Never,

4:51

No, you can sleep the hours,

4:53

but if you're on a moving bus or in

4:55

a hotel, you don't really truly sleep.

4:58

You don't feel, um, the

5:00

same kind of faith as you do when you're in your

5:02

own bed. Yeah, it's not as good rest.

5:06

Um you stay, oh

5:08

do you stay with the momentum of being

5:10

on the road. And once you say

5:14

land at home where you

5:16

feel safe and silier, then

5:19

you know, then you can really rest

5:21

and recuperate and

5:24

you know, listen to the nature

5:26

outside and you know, look up stars

5:28

and stuff that you just never get a chance to

5:31

do otherwise. Right, Um,

5:33

And we're all huge fans of the song

5:35

almost Paradise, Mario is

5:38

I am Courtney as everybody. Um,

5:40

that song is turning thirty five years old this year.

5:43

What do you remember about recording that? Oh?

5:46

Well, I just remember Heart was on

5:49

tour and I had

5:52

I fructured my wrist the day before we

5:55

did that session. We were in Chicago

5:57

and because

6:00

and Mike Reno flew in to

6:04

sing that duet with me, and I

6:06

was in a lot of pain because I didn't want to do any

6:09

painkillers before I sang on

6:11

the session. Right, Yeah, So

6:13

Mike Reno was really cool. He he took

6:16

off his Kashmere scarp and made

6:18

a sling for me to put my arm

6:20

in while we sang, and uh,

6:23

that's That's the main thing I remember is that he

6:25

was really quite the gentleman, you know, and

6:28

we and the song, which I really

6:30

liked already, was really

6:32

easy to sing and well written

6:34

and just really a great love

6:37

song. Well, the I Heart Radio Music

6:39

Festivals this weekend. Heart is going to be there. You can

6:41

follow them on Instagram at Heart Official.

6:43

And thank you so much for calling in today. Oh

6:46

you're welcome. There's great talking to you. All

6:48

right, We'll see you this weekend with

6:52

Mario Lopez
