It was a blast to talk and connect with Regan Davis about how he thinks the world shouldn’t give up on oil! We all have seen the documentaries that talk about the doom and gloom that the world is facing in regards to climate change. However, rarely do they take the time to talk about amazing people who are making a difference in trying to make things cleaner, greener, and still keeping things profitable. There is nothing wrong with solar power and wind power when they are used on a personal level, meaning, having them on the roof of your house or in your backyard. The problem arises when people are adamant that we need to replace oil and gas with solar and wind. The scale is just not there! To power some of the largest cities in the world such as Shanghai, Beijing, Tokyo, London, New York, etc., you would need to cover hundreds and hundreds of square kilometers with solar panels and wind turbines. That just doesn’t make sense.

So the question is, can we make oil clean? It is an incredibly energy dense substance and if we can better reduce the emissions and waste when it comes out of the ground, during processing, and even transport, then the game totally changes. An incredibly fascinating point made by Regan that I had never thought about is that because solar and wind are very appealing options for reducing carbon emissions it often siphons the smartest, brightest, and most creative Millennials out of Universities and Colleges and reduces new creative talent from entering the oil industry, which it so desperately needs!
