Many of us thought about building our own dream house. And although it’s an exciting idea, it does present a few challenges, the biggest of which might be how much it actually ends up costing. Here a few important things to consider before putting a shovel in the ground...
When it comes to a new build, there are really two types of costs; Hard costs and soft ones. Contractors will talk about the hard costs; they include things like materials, equipment and trades.
There are also soft costs; Expenses that could include building application fees, architect fees, engineer fees, municipal permits, and inspections.
Also consider the land you are planning to build on; Has it been surveyed? Does it need servicing, like hydro, gas, or connecting it to a water source and sewer system?
The bottom line is, building your own home is rewarding, but it’s also requires a lot of work. Take your time, and do your research to avoid a financial and construction nightmare.
