In many places in Germany, what many people wished for has come true: a white Christmas. In the meantime, the snow is melting again in some places, but other parts of Germany are still covered with a good deal of fresh snow. But snow is not just snow. Did you know that there are 17 different types of snow?
Snow consists of fine ice crystals that form when small water droplets are deposited on crystallization nuclei, such as dust particles, in clouds. Three conditions are needed for snow to form: sufficient humidity, a temperature below zero degrees Celsius and the said freezing germs. Snow can be divided into different groups, depending on how long it has been lying, its moisture content and density.
