1:47
This is Mike Roth on Open Forum in the villages
1:49
. I'm here today with Anthony
1:51
Pellicano and he is running
1:53
for the Sumter County Sheriff
1:55
. Thanks for joining me , anthony . Thank you , mike , I appreciate
1:58
you having me Good . Why
2:00
don't you tell our listeners , Anthony , a little bit about what you've done before
2:02
you came to the villages ?
2:04
So early on I was in the United States Army active
2:06
duty . I was a long range reconnaissance specialist
2:08
in 19 Delta . I got permanently assigned
2:11
to the 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment out of Fort
2:13
Bliss , texas . After that I
2:15
got out of the military , did plumbing for a little
2:17
while and then I went and
2:19
applied for the Federal Bureau of Prisons . After
2:21
that I got into working
2:23
at the prison system in Fort Dix , new Jersey
2:26
. It's the largest federal prison in the country
2:28
with 5,000 inmates and
2:30
we had no locking doors and it was
2:32
one officer for 350 to
2:34
400 inmates .
2:35
Wait a minute . Wait a prison with doors that didn't
2:37
lock .
2:38
Outside the unit . They were the only doors , but the actual
2:41
doors to their dorms did not lock
2:43
. So we were locked in there , one officer
2:45
per 350 to 400 inmates
2:47
. We were fighting all the time , but
2:50
it was one of those things . So after that we
2:52
I got in . I got promoted a few times
2:54
. I did self-defense instructor . I
2:56
was also a CSI
2:58
, or what we call evidence response team instructor
3:01
. Then I got promoted to do investigations
3:03
for them , did that for quite a few years
3:05
and then I got promoted
3:07
again , went to Washington DC , went
3:10
to intelligence research specialist
3:12
slash intelligence officer and got
3:14
permanently assigned to the FBI task
3:16
force in Miami and then from
3:18
then Does that mean you were actually
3:21
in the FBI ? I had full rights
3:23
to the FBI and other agencies access to everything
3:25
. It's difficult , but I had
3:28
all their IDs and their security clearance . I went through
3:30
all their programs . It was just like being in the FBI
3:32
but it was technically . Intelligence officer is a generic
3:34
title to all that law enforcement
3:37
Every agency I had access to . I was on a
3:39
task force for multiple different agencies local
3:41
law enforcement , state federal . It
3:43
was down in , based in Miami . Even though
3:45
I still work for Washington DC , I was based in
3:47
Miami , florida .
3:48
Well , that's a better place to be based .
3:50
It's expensive , but we were based down there , me and
3:52
my wife and our three kids .
3:54
And when did you come to the villages and
3:56
Sumpter County ?
3:57
Well , we've been coming up here for many years , off and
4:00
on . My parents have a house here for about 12 or 13
4:02
years . I moved up here two years ago
4:04
full time after I retired from
4:06
Miami . We moved up here and I
4:08
promised my wife after a year
4:10
that I take a year off to desensitize
4:12
a little bit . Here we are , so
4:14
I'm running for Sumpter County Sheriff .
4:17
What brought you to the conclusion that you should run
4:19
for Sumpter County Sheriff .
4:21
You know all my life , pretty much all my career
4:24
. For the past 28 years I've served either
4:26
in the government or counties , or I
4:28
was CDD and chairman and
4:30
HOA presidents , and even
4:32
with the law enforcement . I've always worked with the military
4:35
or the government agencies . It's just . I've
4:37
always served . It was always something that I
4:39
enjoyed doing .
4:40
Here in Florida do you have to have a special certification
4:43
to be sheriff or to be a ?
4:45
No , you just have to be in law enforcement . I would say
4:47
that would be your best guess . I mean , I don't
4:49
think . Anyway , that doesn't have law enforcement experience
4:51
is not going to get elected to that .
4:54
So a lawyer couldn't be elected to sheriff
4:56
In some states you can't In some states you can't .
4:58
I mean , I think anybody can run
5:00
and I don't think you need experience to
5:02
run , but I think that that's the way it
5:04
should be law enforcement , because you have all the experience
5:06
.
5:07
And when is the Republican primary
5:09
?
5:10
It should be around August . August here , 24-24
5:12
.
5:12
Okay , so when you were in the
5:15
law enforcement business for the Army
5:17
, can you share with us some of the particular areas
5:19
of expertise that you had ?
5:21
For the Army . Yeah , I wasn't law enforcement
5:23
for the Army , but I was what they call a
5:25
long range of constant specialists or a scout
5:27
for the Army . So I worked for a combat
5:30
unit . I worked for the S3 shop out of the
5:32
3rd ACR , which is the 3rd Armour Cavalry
5:34
Regiment in Fort Bliss , Texas . We were one of the
5:36
only two or three at the time desert
5:39
trained combat units that were involved
5:41
in things . We went out and I did a lot of training
5:43
. So when I went out there I also got handpicked
5:45
to be one of the 31
5:48
of 30 individuals that actually
5:50
tested what they called the friend
5:52
info vehicle recognition system Got
5:55
a lot of friendly fire incidents during
5:57
the first Gulf War and after that
5:59
we went out to White Sands , New Mexico , and tested
6:01
a bunch of three different company systems so there
6:03
wouldn't be so much friendly fire . Nowadays
6:05
they call it modern day GPS , but
6:07
back then it was called friend info . That's where it was developed
6:10
that through that system . That was one of the things
6:12
that I was involved in .
6:13
I wanted to tell our listeners what your
6:15
position is relative to community
6:18
policing , so community policing to me
6:20
is giving back to the community
6:22
.
6:22
It's not always about arresting or going
6:25
out and doing things against the community
6:28
. I believe in community policing and
6:30
that is go out to events , charitable
6:33
organizations . What we're also going
6:35
to do is , since I'm already retired
6:37
, I'm going to give $10,000 a
6:39
year of my salary back to some
6:41
county community , and what
6:43
I mean by that is charities
6:46
, veterans , groups , animal shelters
6:48
or whatever we seem we may rotate
6:50
them , you know things of that nature to
6:52
give back to the community .
6:53
That's just what we've always done . The crime right
6:55
here in Sumpter County is usually
6:58
described as exceptionally
7:00
low because of the population . Are there
7:02
any other services that you think you
7:04
might want to add to the Sheriff's
7:06
Department aren't done now .
7:08
That could be Well , I think they do a
7:10
pretty good job here . I'm not going to knock that by any
7:12
means . They do a great job here . You're going to get a
7:14
new sheriff , regardless of what's going to happen this
7:16
coming up cycle , so I'm just trying
7:18
to do my best to win those votes . Of
7:20
course , the community stuff is going
7:22
to be more like getting out in the public . I'm not
7:24
one to sit at my desk all day , so I'm going
7:27
to be out and about talking to people . I'm going
7:29
to be out and about on different shifts . I can't
7:31
fix a problem if I don't know it exists
7:33
, so I'm not just going to sit there
7:35
all day behind a desk . I'm going to be out and about . I'm
7:37
going to be out in the community . I'm going to go to calls with
7:39
these guys . I'm going to be community
7:41
relations all the time . That's basically
7:43
what I'm going to be doing ?
7:45
How do you intend to engage with local neighborhoods
7:47
to build trust and collaboration ?
7:49
Well , events , we're going to get some more . Events like , say
7:51
, one that I used to do in Miami
7:53
was coffee with a cop , or
7:55
a coffee with a deputy , or a
7:58
dinner with a deputy , or a lunch
8:00
with a deputy , or some similar to that , and some
8:02
other events will get going and then we'll invite that . If
8:05
you guys want to show up , you're more than welcome to .
8:07
No , that's a good idea . How do you see the difference between
8:10
the villages in Sumpter County and
8:12
the residents and other parts of Sumpter
8:14
County ?
8:15
So I've been to a lot of meetings already . There
8:18
seems to be a little rift between both
8:20
, but as a sheriff I don't . It's
8:23
not a thing . So I have to
8:25
keep that peace between both groups , and
8:27
to do that you have to make people come together At
8:30
some point . There has to be some kind of coordination
8:32
between both groups . There is a little bit of
8:34
a rift that goes on between both groups , but I
8:37
think overall everybody wants the best for Sumpter
8:39
County and that's what I'm hoping for .
8:42
How do you plan to handle political pressures
8:44
and maintain impartiality
8:46
as you integrate yourself into
8:48
the role of sheriff ?
8:49
So with that , one is more of
8:51
keeping the peace , we'll say so that
8:53
is you got . I got to get to all these events . I've been going to
8:55
a lot of events already commissioner
8:58
meetings and different areas , and not just
9:00
in the villages , and I think that's again . It goes
9:02
back to the community relations part . So you
9:04
have to , you have to come to a peace with
9:06
every group and every situation that
9:08
comes up . As long as you can keep that going , you
9:10
shouldn't have any issues . I will
9:13
not be causing any drama . It's not
9:15
about my , the way I do things , but
9:17
I do get out and allow . I do get out and about a lot
9:19
and I think that that'll help out a lot with
9:21
community relations .
9:22
How do you stay informed about the changing needs
9:24
and concerns in our community ?
9:26
Well , that is getting out and talking to people , not just
9:28
commissioners , not just residents , it's
9:31
everybody . You got to get out , you got to go to law outside
9:34
law enforcement groups , you have to with committees
9:36
and commissioners and outside residents
9:38
and all there's . There's thousands of groups
9:41
here , which is totally amazing to me , and
9:43
it's hard to get to all the groups . I may not
9:45
get to all of them , but I'm working my way around
9:47
slowly and I like to hear everybody's . Everybody
9:50
has an opinion on everything and that's what I'm trying to work
9:52
things and work ways through each one of those
9:54
opinions in groups . So I'm working on it .
9:56
I looked at the number of people , just to
9:58
hear the villages , and I'll take that number
10:00
at around 150,000 and said
10:02
you know , if we were a city , where
10:04
would we rank in the size of cities in the state
10:06
of Florida ? And we would be fifth or sixth , absolutely
10:09
. So we have a very , and that's
10:11
without counting anyone who lives in
10:13
the county but not in the villages . So that's
10:16
a . It's a big job . Why
10:18
in the and looking at it as a big job
10:20
, why would someone elect you , who
10:22
is not in the Sopter County
10:24
police , as the new chief ?
10:26
Well , I come with a vast array of experience
10:28
. I'm
10:48
FEMA certified . I've gone through just
10:50
about every FEMA class that you can think
10:53
of . My emergency management certified
10:55
come with 28 years of law enforcement
10:57
and military experience . I get along
10:59
with everybody . I've got contacts worldwide
11:01
because I used to do investigations all
11:03
over the place it wasn't just say Florida
11:06
or Wisconsin or it
11:08
was Ireland and Europe and crime
11:11
reaches far and wide and that's what we were
11:13
trying to do and I hold a few records on some
11:15
drug interdiction stuff and you
11:17
know I can bring that knowledge here and I'm big on
11:19
training . So I think that training is going to be
11:21
a big key to deputy's interaction
11:24
with the public . I think that I've watched a few . I've
11:26
done a lot of research before I got involved in
11:28
this and I've watched a lot of videos
11:31
and things that are out on social media
11:33
. Some are questionable , some are good and some
11:35
are fantastic . It's just they're all it's policing
11:37
. And I believe in training . I'm
11:40
a big training person . I've flown around the country and conducted
11:42
training . I've been to seminars , I've given
11:44
classes on stuff all different than
11:46
all different things . It's just what I like to do
11:48
and I enjoy training . Training is a priority
11:51
for any group to run
11:53
an efficient policing organization
11:55
.
11:55
So if you were elected sheriff , what do
11:57
you think that would happen to the morale
11:59
of the officers that we have at the Sumpter
12:01
County Sheriff's Department ? There's an adjustment period
12:03
, of course .
12:04
They're always going to be , no matter what . You're going
12:06
to get a new sheriff , so regardless
12:08
of who it is hopefully it's me crossing my
12:10
fingers but regardless of who it is you're going to get
12:12
a new sheriff and there's going to be an adjustment period . But I'm
12:14
a personable person . Like I go around and I have
12:16
no issue talking to anybody , and
12:18
there's no political party that I don't talk to . I
12:21
get around independents , republicans , democrats
12:23
. I want to hear what they have to say , so that's why I like
12:25
to meld everybody's opinions
12:27
together and try to come up with a concrete solution
12:29
to them .
12:31
Have you discovered any law enforcement
12:33
issues that are unaddressed here
12:35
in Sumpter County that you'd like
12:37
to see addressed ? Not really .
12:38
They're running abo ut . I FOIA
12:41
requested some information and I have about
12:43
. They have about 13, . 12 to 13
12:45
open non-investigative
12:48
clad . But they have 13 open cases
12:50
that are cold case cases . I like to reopen
12:52
those and get those going and at least
12:55
we can solve at least one of those Somebody's
12:57
family's happier than what they were yesterday
12:59
and I totally want
13:01
to open those . If I have to open up them myself , I have
13:04
no issue with it . I've done it before . I
13:06
do investigations , thousands of them Intelligence
13:09
reports have gone as high as the Attorney
13:11
General's office . I've done
13:13
them and it's not a big deal . I have no issue doing it at all
13:15
. To be honest with you , I think that people need closure
13:17
. I'm about saying they're doing it wrong
13:19
. I'm saying is that there's 13 for a small county
13:22
like this . I think that needs to be addressed . That's
13:24
one of the things I want to do and open them up and
13:26
get them open up all the cases and see if we can get one
13:28
or two of those at least closed because there's new
13:30
technologies out now , how many years back
13:32
does 13 cases ? go Pretty far . I
13:35
don't know the exact date , but some of them go
13:37
back pretty far . That's not a dig on
13:39
the Sheriff's Department . That's just because things
13:43
fall , people move or things
13:45
happen and stuff goes cold , and that's
13:47
just the way it works . It's a product called cold cases .
13:50
To me it's actually surprising that it's only 12
13:52
or 13 cold cases
13:55
.
13:55
That's the number that I got from the FOIA
13:57
request .
13:58
Was there a single thing that motivated you most to
14:00
run for Sheriff ? No , I just enjoy
14:02
serve .
14:02
I like to do it . It's just my calling . I
14:05
enjoy doing it and I think that
14:07
that's a great thing . I think people need more . People should
14:09
do it , no matter what it is , whether
14:11
it's Sheriff or not . There's plenty of positions that
14:13
are opening up and I think people need to run for them
14:15
. It's not easy to run for any position here .
14:17
What do you think your biggest obstacle is ?
14:19
Well , name recognition is probably the most
14:21
. That's really all it is . I meet so
14:23
many people and so many people are very
14:26
friendly and they're like oh my God , I'm so glad
14:28
you're running and it's
14:30
time to get a new and fresh way of doing
14:32
things . I think that's a great option
14:34
for everybody .
14:35
Do you have a campaign committee set up ?
14:39
I do . We're working on getting a bigger one . I'm trying
14:41
to get more of that stuff going now . We've
14:43
been getting these petition signed . I'm almost done with
14:45
it now .
14:46
How many petition signatures did you need ? 1,200
14:49
. Only 1,200 ?
14:50
1,200, ? Yeah , we've been going to
14:52
all the postal stations in the villages and
14:55
that way I like to do them myself . It's taken me a little longer
14:57
, but I want to hear everybody's opinions
14:59
on what they have to say about
15:01
things and what they want to change . Should
15:03
come to some of the car shows . I've been to some
15:05
of the car shows and they're fantastic . We're
15:08
getting ready to ship our classic car up here soon
15:10
and once we do that we'll have we'll
15:12
meet more people . You're going to go up to the show in
15:14
the Spanish Springs . All the shows , yeah
15:16
, we'll try to get most of the shows , me and my dad
15:18
.
15:19
Don't forget about the last Saturday morning
15:21
of the month . The most unpublicized car
15:23
show in the villages is the Cars and
15:25
Coffee in Lake Sumter Square , behind
15:27
the Fidelity Investment , from 9 am
15:29
to 10 am . It's amazing
15:32
. You get there 10 minutes early , there's no cars
15:34
. You get there 5 after 10
15:36
, there's no cars oh my God . But we
15:38
usually turn out about 40 people . That's
15:40
good . Usually BMWs , Porsches
15:42
, Miata's and Strange Exotic Good
15:44
BMW Austin Martin , DB9
15:47
shows up .
15:48
That's great . For that , I think that's a great thing . That's
15:50
fun , it gets people out and you meet people and that's just
15:52
how it is .
15:53
Yeah , what do you think has helped you the most
15:55
so far in your run for sheriff
15:57
?
15:57
I'm happy to say my wife , your wife , my
15:59
wife , my wife's been a godsend
16:02
through all this . I've told
16:04
her we've talked about it before I
16:06
actually ran . We went
16:08
through all that and we knew we were getting into before
16:10
I did it . But I think we're good with it
16:12
and she's been a godsend . The
16:15
kids have been great about it . We're trying to
16:17
get everything , how old are your children . Now my
16:20
son is 29 . He's in New Jersey
16:22
. He's an accountant . My other son is
16:24
in Ovidio . He's working
16:26
for a private company and he just opened
16:28
an app on the App Store last week . So he
16:30
developed an app and my daughter is getting ready to graduate
16:33
UCF this December .
16:35
I've got to tell the joke for my grandson . Evan
16:37
Got it , anthony . What did the noes say to the
16:39
finger ? What Quit picking on me ? That's
16:43
funny , good joke . Now
16:45
we're going to listen to a short Alzheimer's tip
16:47
from Dr Craig Curris . Is there a
16:49
seminar that you do that people can attend
16:52
to learn more about Alzheimer's
16:54
disease ?
16:54
Yes , sir , I usually give two to three
16:57
seminars per week in my office and
16:59
if folks would like to just call my office
17:01
, they can register for the next available
17:03
seminar , and usually they're on what days ?
17:05
Tuesdays , wednesdays and Thursdays .
17:08
Great Thank you with over 20 years of experience
17:10
studying brain health , dr Curtis's
17:12
goal is to educate the village's community on
17:14
how to live a longer , healthier life . To learn more
17:16
, visit his website , craigcurtismd . com
17:19
, or call 352-500-5252
17:23
to attend a free seminar .
17:24
Now , Anthony , you've talked to a lot of people here in Sumter
17:26
County , lived here for a couple of years . What
17:28
do you think is the best thing that
17:31
we're doing from a law enforcement perspective , things
17:33
that are really working right ?
17:34
I think the communication between all the different
17:36
departments is always gonna be a key Mm-hmm
17:38
, there's always gonna be a lax
17:40
of something at some point , but I think
17:43
the more people communicate here and I'm
17:45
big on that because I came from task forces- so
17:47
that's all about communication
17:49
and organization and I think that's
17:51
a big thing that they're doing here and I'm hoping they can keep
17:53
that up .
17:54
Just since you're talking about communications
17:56
, does the so-called villages
17:58
public safety department , or fire department
18:01
as I like to call them , and the police department
18:03
in Sumter County have the same radio
18:05
frequencies so they can communicate with
18:07
one another ?
18:08
That I know they do have . I don't know if it's the same radio
18:10
frequency , but I know they have channels
18:12
that they can open up between each other .
18:14
Yes , A lot of our villagers here are
18:16
worried about traffic safety Me too
18:18
and that entails
18:21
both drivers driving too slow , especially
18:23
on the left lane , and
18:25
drivers driving too fast . What do you think
18:27
we can do about that here in Sumter County ?
18:29
Well , the one thing that has to be done is there needs to
18:31
be more sight-seeing of the
18:33
patrol vehicles , right , so you have to see
18:36
them . And then usually when you see a patrol vehicle
18:38
, no matter if you're going fast or not , you're gonna slow down
18:40
. That'll slow down the traffic
18:42
. My biggest things here are the circles . I
18:44
believe if you look at some of the circles , some of the markings
18:47
on the circles themselves are different
18:49
than other circles . They're not consistent
18:52
.
18:52
There is a very big inconsistency and
18:54
, I think , a lot of confusion comes
18:56
because of that .
18:57
There's dash lines , there's solid lines , there's
18:59
all sorts of different things
19:01
on those roundabouts .
19:03
I follow the rule never change lanes
19:05
.
19:05
You should .
19:06
Inside the traffic circle , except when you're
19:08
exiting and you have to and you're on the left lane
19:10
. And then the other issue that I see
19:12
is some traffic circles have
19:15
two lanes for the full 360
19:17
degrees and other circles
19:19
have 180 degrees and
19:21
then there's a lane cutout and it kind of
19:23
makes no sense to me . I agree
19:25
.
19:26
It's just the way that the engineers came
19:28
up with that system . I
19:30
wish they would either put a solid line instead
19:33
of a dash line . So if there's a solid line , by law
19:35
you're not supposed to cross it . But if you put
19:37
a dash line , people know to
19:39
cross it . And that's where the confusion comes into
19:41
. You can't cross it , yeah , and
19:43
that's where people get mixed up . They're telling people one thing
19:45
you can't switch lanes . But if you have a dash line
19:48
, you can switch lanes . Technically , you can by
19:50
law .
19:51
So it gets a little confusing and the signage doesn't
19:53
contribute very much . There
19:56
also should be a , I think , some signage
19:58
about the trucks pulling trailers , that
20:00
the drivers of those trucks know that they're
20:02
going to occupy two lanes in a circle
20:04
.
20:05
Yeah , they're pretty wide , especially down by me with the only
20:07
construction . It's pretty crazy down
20:09
there . There's been a lot of accidents , so hopefully
20:12
we can get this stuff straightened out with the county commissioners
20:14
and getting this stuff , the right signage up
20:16
and the right symbols on the ground .
20:18
Yeah , and the signage has to be
20:21
positioned so that the driver going speed
20:23
limit has enough time to react . The guy
20:25
going 20 miles an hour in a golf cart has
20:27
plenty of time to react . Yeah
20:29
, but especially when there are bigger
20:32
vehicles .
20:32
And sometimes the village sign
20:35
of each village blocks the intersection
20:37
view . So if you're trying to pull
20:39
out , sometimes you can't see past the
20:41
signage that they have the big wall with the big name
20:44
on it for each village on it . The way they have them hanged , yeah
20:46
well , stop signs are a big thing . Here too , people
20:48
don't stop at stop signs . So , including
20:50
bikes , including golf carts .
20:52
That's another big irritation . That's the big thing here
20:54
. Bicycles , who are supposed
20:56
to have some rights of way on the road
20:58
, and overlook things like stop
21:01
signs . They don't bother to stop , golf carts
21:03
that don't bother to stop , and I think it's terribly
21:05
dangerous .
21:06
The Wildwood Police Department down by me has been doing
21:08
a pretty good job . They've been out there actually with
21:10
a police golf cart . And they've been pulling
21:12
bikes and golf carts over there . Don't
21:14
stop at the stop sign Again
21:16
. It's random , but they're doing a decent
21:18
job , trying to clean the best they can up with the
21:20
manpower that they have , it gets the word out .
21:23
Of course , does the Sumpter County Sheriff have a golf
21:25
cart ?
21:25
You know , I don't know , I'm sure they probably do . I
21:27
haven't seen it on the roads or the golf cart path yet
21:29
, but I've seen the wild because I live down south
21:31
, so I've seen the Wildwood out there more than I've seen the
21:33
.
21:34
Sheriff's Department . We want to see some
21:36
better signage and we want to see , I
21:38
think , officers that
21:40
aren't sitting in a car talking
21:42
to each other but they can be walking in the crowd . I
21:44
agree and , aside from being neighborly
21:47
, I think people feel safer .
21:49
I think so too , and I think one of the other things
21:51
that I'm going to try to do is they don't
21:53
. When there's big events at the squares all three
21:55
squares you don't see them anymore . They used
21:57
to be at the squares , so when I go to Brown
21:59
.
21:59
I used to remember I think they were always at the
22:01
square . The Wildwood police were always at
22:03
the Brownwood . They don't . They're
22:05
not there anymore . I don't know .
22:06
I don't know where that stopped or how that stopped
22:08
, but I want to bring that back , cause when there's
22:11
large crowds , especially during this time of year , you
22:13
know that's just a hot bed
22:15
for anything . I'm a terrorism expert
22:17
, so that's to me . That gives me the
22:20
shakes . When I look at that
22:22
, I look around , cause there's nobody . Yeah , if
22:25
a terrorist or somebody wants to do something , they're going
22:27
to do it , regardless of what kind of security you
22:29
have . But you could at least deter
22:31
it and that's basically what we're
22:33
trying to do .
22:34
Good , any other last thoughts you have on
22:36
why someone should vote for you as Sheriff
22:38
?
22:38
I think we went over most of them . I have , you know , I have the website
22:41
up and you know what is the website . It's
22:43
a P , it's Pellicano , the
22:45
number four sheriff . com
22:47
. That's what the website is . I could donate
22:49
on there . You can , you know , send me emails
22:51
through there . I answer all my emails personally
22:54
. I don't have an issue with talking to people . If you
22:56
want me to come to an event , I have been all
22:58
over and if it's all my schedule and I can make your
23:00
event , I will make your event .
23:02
What's your fundraising goal I ?
23:03
don't really have a fundraising goal , you know , cause
23:05
you never know what's going to . You know how much
23:07
you need or you know whatever . Right
23:09
now we're funding it ourselves with
23:11
some friends . Mm-hmm , but that's
23:13
going to . You know , you can't bankrupt yourself trying to fund
23:15
these things , cause it's not cheap to run for any kind of
23:18
office . So we are looking for fundraising
23:20
, and they can do that through the website , which automatically
23:22
gets put into a campaign account .
23:24
Are you going to be running ads in the daily sun
23:27
? I'm going to try , but we'll
23:29
see how that goes with them . I never liked the word
23:31
try . It's either do or do not
23:33
. Well , there's , yeah , it's tough
23:35
sometimes .
23:36
Sometimes they don't want . Have you met with a developer
23:38
? I have not . I've emailed
23:40
and talked to some people that know
23:42
they're their people . I
23:44
haven't gotten any responses back . They don't know if they've
23:46
told them or not , but I think they need to
23:48
know and at least have a , at least have a conversation .
23:51
Sure .
23:51
At the minimum .
23:52
Yeah , it's someone you need to know I agree
23:54
. Okay . Are there any other people that
23:56
you need to know that you haven't met
23:58
yet ?
23:59
No , I get around , I talk to everybody there's . I don't
24:01
have a need to know people group , I just like
24:03
to get around and talk to people . I like to go to groups . I like to
24:05
meet all different groups . It makes no
24:07
difference what the group is to me and I think that's
24:09
the way it should be . You know , being a sheriff
24:11
is a bipartisan position technically
24:13
. Whether you have to run for a party or not
24:15
officially is fine , but technically it's
24:18
a bipartisan position . I'm not going to ask you where you are
24:20
before you get arrested . It doesn't work that way . So
24:23
I get . I like to get around and just talk to people personally .
24:26
Just for informational purposes , the sheriff's
24:28
department has how many officers
24:30
around ?
24:31
No , I'm getting ready to request that . I've been told they're
24:33
fully staffed . I pulled some numbers up , actually
24:35
the other day . They should have technically
24:38
they should have over 200
24:40
or 300 and something full-time officers
24:42
by law , by Florida law , but I don't
24:44
know how they're categorizing it here . As
24:47
soon as I get those numbers , I'll have a better , clear answer
24:49
on how they're doing it . Great Thanks for being with us
24:51
today , Anthony . Thank you for having me . I appreciate your help
24:53
. Great .
