1:00

into a Friday edition of the Orange and Brown Talk podcast. I am

1:02

Ashley Bastak joined here

1:19

with Mary Kay Cabot. Once

1:21

again, our final Dan-less podcast.

1:23

Dan, we miss you so

1:26

much. We're so ready for you to come back.

1:29

Well, Mary Kay, at least we have a bit of

1:31

news this Friday to talk. We're going to probably go

1:33

a little bit shorter today, but we

1:35

want to start off with the Browns

1:38

release their offseason schedule. Of course, the

1:40

offseason program schedules went out across the

1:42

NFL today. So really quickly, just going

1:45

to rattle off some dates. They're in

1:47

Mary Kay's story that she has

1:49

over at cleveland.com/Browns. But April

1:52

16th is when the offseason program begins.

1:54

We'll get Andrew Berry before the draft

1:56

a couple days later on April 18th.

2:00

And of course we have the draft, which is the 25th or the 27th this

2:02

year. The

2:04

Browns will hold their rookie mini camp two

2:06

days later, May 10th through the 12th. And

2:09

then we're going to get into OTAs

2:11

that month as well. So we'll have

2:13

three open OTA sessions and second session

2:15

on May 22nd, and fifth

2:17

session on May 29th, their ninth session

2:19

on June 5th. The

2:23

golf tournament that we go to every year is

2:25

in between those days very nicely. And then the

2:28

off season program will conclude with mandatory

2:30

veteran mini camps on June 11th through

2:32

13th. So Mary Kay, those are all

2:35

the bare bones days, but we were

2:37

talking again, I think it's good to

2:39

remind people about the phases of the

2:41

NFL off season programs and what you

2:43

can and can't do at each step

2:46

during these three stages. Yes.

2:48

In phase one, which again,

2:50

it begins on April

2:52

15th, and then the Browns are going to

2:54

be available to us on April 16th. But

2:57

that first phase is two weeks

2:59

of mostly conditioning and coaches

3:01

really are not working with the players

3:04

yet, but they do have meetings. So

3:06

there are meetings and then conditioning with

3:08

the conditioning staff. So that lasts

3:10

for two weeks. It'll be interesting to see if

3:13

Deshaun shows up for that first

3:15

two weeks. Now from a camaraderie

3:17

standpoint and from a being with

3:19

his teammate standpoint and just being

3:22

around and getting everybody exciting and showing

3:25

the commitment of, of being here for this

3:27

voluntary program all the way up until you

3:29

get to the mandatory mini camp. It's probably

3:32

good for Deshaun to be here, but we'll

3:34

see how that goes because we know that

3:36

he's working very closely with his surgeon out

3:38

in Los Angeles, Dr. Neil Elethros, world

3:41

renowned shoulder surgeon. So

3:43

we'll see if he's there for that. But

3:45

then once you start to get into the

3:47

on field work, he's expected to be throwing

3:50

with his teammates and to his teammates. So

3:52

phase two is three weeks of On

3:56

field work. Now The coaches get involved with

3:59

the players. Though that will

4:01

start in early May and again

4:03

it's three weeks of. On.

4:05

Field work it involves you can

4:08

do off and up across from

4:10

offense. You can line up defense

4:12

against defense but you can't go

4:15

eleven on eleven's you have to

4:17

wait until. Okay A Which Com

4:20

in phase three. Of. The

4:22

cell program and then face three is

4:24

four weeks of the program and it

4:26

includes ten O T H Organized team

4:28

activities. I always say how do we

4:30

know they're organized were not allowed been

4:32

there for most of them. They could

4:34

be. Total. Chaos for all

4:36

we know. But it's ten practices and

4:39

you get to do once again. you

4:41

get to do Eleven on eleventh and

4:43

you're installing your schemes and your system

4:46

which is Huge this year. Absolutely huge

4:48

because the whole off and in my

4:50

mind, I don't know. Maybe maybe they're

4:52

just tweaking it a little bit, but

4:55

I think it's going to be a

4:57

pretty significant overhaul. Yes, A world

4:59

he that phase three as those you

5:01

I think the most important part. Like

5:04

Mary Kay said, there are. Other

5:06

benefits to the earlier part

5:08

of the off. Season program,

5:10

from of lottery standpoint, front laying

5:13

the groundwork for film and meetings,

5:15

things like that, I think, especially.

5:18

Some. New guys and veterans especially

5:20

the rookies. Even of course when we

5:22

have that rookie minicamp those are huge

5:24

few days for them. But miracle think

5:26

it makes sense when we talk about

5:28

some of the things were looking for

5:30

a summer things were curious about this

5:32

of people. Now most of that is

5:34

gonna be related to see three of

5:36

the off season program but I do

5:38

think either you reporters in your most

5:41

recent Browns insider that. It seems

5:43

like right now from what we know since

5:45

the signs rehab is going well he's gonna

5:47

be at. All. Or most of

5:49

this stuff at least for the time

5:51

being. And I just think he is

5:53

undeniably the summer heat of the softie

5:55

than program. He really. is and we

5:58

know that he started throwing last

6:00

week out at UCLA. Joe

6:02

Sheehan, the Browns head trainer, went out

6:04

there to supervise these throwing sessions. Gave

6:07

him a joke who was out

6:09

there to catch passes and offer

6:11

moral support. Quincy Avery, Deshaun's private

6:13

quarterbacks coach, was out there running

6:16

the sessions. So he is actually

6:18

throwing the football about four or

6:20

so months after having his surgery

6:22

to repair the fractured circuit. So

6:24

that's great news. That is great

6:26

news for the Browns and it

6:29

gives them the hope and the knowledge

6:31

to be able to say, he's going to be throwing

6:33

in the offseason program. And that's

6:35

really great because if you're doing that, then

6:38

you are one big step closer to getting

6:40

on that football field and starting that game

6:42

in September. So I think that is the

6:44

number one thing that we are watching. But

6:46

the thing to remember, Ashley, and we've written

6:49

about this, we've talked about this, is the

6:51

fact that they do have three other quarterbacks

6:53

on the roster. And Deshaun is not going

6:55

to have to carry the full workload. We're

6:58

going to get to see plenty

7:00

of James Winston and for sure plenty

7:02

of Tyler Huntley. I think that's one

7:05

of the things that I'm most curious about

7:07

because I know when we did our Browns

7:09

bingo board, of course, which people may remember,

7:11

it's on the Orange and Brown Talk Instagram.

7:13

I believe Dan did an actual post with

7:15

it. We joked about

7:17

this idea of when

7:19

Deshaun begins throwing in these OTA.

7:22

This over analysis almost of how

7:24

much zip, quote unquote, he has

7:26

on the ball and what the

7:28

arc on his throws look like.

7:30

And I do think in OTAs,

7:32

that is something I think just

7:34

by the nature of the position

7:36

you do have to watch for,

7:38

but there's also no contact, we

7:40

know, right? So it's not entirely

7:42

the full live speed, live game

7:44

situation. But for me, I think

7:46

besides the necessity of watching

7:49

that, I'm most curious just to kind

7:51

of watch those other guys too and

7:53

see how they split up those reps.

7:55

Is that something that you're also most

7:57

curious about? If you're ranking what you're

7:59

watching? The quarterback room. It's a

8:01

a few than program. Yeah,

8:03

I mean, I'm very anxious to see

8:06

what James Winston is all about. Rights

8:08

and A We know that he has

8:10

a speed Strong are We've seen that

8:12

over the years. We know he can

8:14

sling it. So we've just got done

8:16

watching a bunch of Joe Flacco. So

8:19

we're used to one of these big

8:21

arms where you can just let it

8:23

rip and let it end up yeah,

8:25

seventy yards downfield. In some cases, I'm

8:27

anxious to see what his arm is

8:29

all about. Again, he's thirty years old,

8:31

so he's not still. Twenty Three

8:33

or Twenty Four, But I think all the

8:36

arm strength still seems to be there. and

8:38

the Browns have. Pretty. Good speed.

8:40

They don't have a a speedster on

8:42

the roster per se any more like

8:44

they did when they had Marquees. Good

8:46

when and when they had Anthony Schwartz.

8:48

I still think they could use that.

8:50

I still think they need that element

8:52

of blazing speed. Will see if they

8:54

add it in any way, shape or

8:56

form in the draft. Or in free

8:58

agency or elsewhere before the season

9:01

begins. But I'm looking forward to

9:03

seeing game is just sling it and

9:05

see what he's got. I'm just looking

9:08

forward to seeing his. You

9:10

noticed his size, his presence,

9:12

his leadership ability. You start

9:14

to see. How players gravitate

9:16

towards other players? Very early on,

9:19

in these practices, you see who

9:21

surrounded by whom, who, who gravitate

9:23

to who, and it's It's very

9:26

interesting to see how that's all

9:28

going to work out, so I'm

9:30

looking forward to that. I'm expecting

9:32

to see plenty of James and

9:35

Disarm working very closely together and

9:37

and just having their heads their

9:39

foreheads together. You know, talking to

9:41

each other, less going over things,

9:44

learning things, and. in

9:46

some respects they're both going to

9:48

be learning some new terminology and

9:50

they're both going to be learning

9:53

some new things schematic li with

9:55

this office so i think there

9:57

will be very interesting and then

10:00

once again, Tyler Huntler, yes, I'm very

10:02

anxious to see what Tyler's about. We

10:04

know that he is very

10:06

much a running quarterback and he

10:09

brings that skillset to the table.

10:12

And I think, you know, he's someone that

10:14

you could even do some really cool things

10:16

with in terms of throw them into

10:18

the game, give them a package of plays and see

10:20

what he can do. So I

10:22

think it gives you a little bit of flexibility that way. I'm

10:25

really looking forward to potentially another offseason

10:27

where we talk about a package of

10:29

plays for one of the Browns backup

10:31

quarterbacks because I think those are always

10:33

fun thought experiments. But quite honestly, I'm

10:35

of the mind, when it is this

10:37

portion of the offseason, why not try

10:39

out weird stuff like that before you

10:41

have to add in all the contact

10:43

and offense versus defense especially. So I

10:45

do think I'm really curious about all

10:48

those things as well. And I keep

10:50

thinking about from the Jamis Winston perspective

10:52

specifically, I remember when

10:54

Joe Flacco walked into the Browns locker

10:56

room in November and being

10:58

shocked at how big he was. And

11:00

I had never covered Joe Flacco in

11:03

person in any point in the

11:05

last couple of years. I mean, obviously he was

11:07

in Cleveland for that Jets game a couple of

11:09

years ago, but didn't actually see him up close,

11:11

didn't go to the Jets locker room for that

11:13

game. So Jamis is a little bit smaller height

11:16

wise. Joe Flacco is 6'6", Jamis is listed as

11:18

6'4". But I'm just really

11:20

curious to kind of see his

11:23

build and his size and how it compares

11:25

to Deshaun because I know that's something that

11:27

people talk about a lot with him.

11:29

And I'm just curious to kind of see

11:31

how that room is composed now because it

11:34

is very different than it was this time

11:36

last year and even two, three months

11:38

ago. Well, the thing about Jamis in addition to

11:40

the size, and I am also curious to

11:42

just see what his presence is like,

11:44

right? These guys have to come in

11:46

and pass the eyeball test with us.

11:49

We need to see what they look

11:51

like in terms of just being a

11:53

football player. So that's always very interesting.

11:56

But the thing with Jamis that I think

11:59

it's important. important for people to remember is

12:01

the fact that he really is more of

12:03

a dropback passer. He's not

12:05

the dual threat quarterback that Deshaun

12:07

is. He's not the

12:09

dual threat quarterback that Joshua

12:12

Dobbs was here and Jacobi

12:15

Brissette wasn't either. So I think we

12:17

need to make that distinction and realize

12:19

that when you do go to

12:21

Jamis or if you do have to go

12:23

to Jamis, it's going to be vastly different

12:25

than what you're seeing with Deshaun

12:28

or what you're going to be seeing

12:30

potentially with a Tyler Huntly. So

12:32

that's one thing to note, but

12:35

I think that's good. I think it's good

12:37

for the players to be able to pivot

12:39

and adapt to different styles of quarterbacks and

12:41

to just keep everything open, to

12:43

keep all of your options open and to

12:46

know that whatever happens that you're going to

12:48

be ready for that. So

12:50

I think that's in part why they were ready for

12:52

a Joe Flacco last year is because they had Jacobi

12:54

Brissette the year before for the first 11 games. They

12:57

were really dealing with more of a pocket

12:59

style passer. So I think that's good for

13:02

everybody, but those are some of the things

13:04

that we're going to be watching. And

13:06

then also, I know you're anxious to see

13:08

some of the new guys like Jerry Judy.

13:10

How is Jerry Judy fitting in? I'm

13:13

sure he's going to be attached like

13:15

glue to Amari Cooper's hip,

13:17

right? I mean, he's just going to be

13:19

little Amari. I just know that's how it's

13:22

going to go, right? So I'm

13:24

looking forward to seeing him and how he

13:26

fits into the room and

13:28

how that dynamic all goes in the

13:31

receiver room. All right. Let's

13:33

sneak in a quick break here, actually. When we

13:35

come back, we're going to continue talking about the

13:37

offseason program and we're going to start with that

13:39

nice little lead in that Mary Kay left us

13:41

with talking about the receivers in the past game

13:43

as a whole. Hey

14:18

Welcome back on this Friday, the soon

14:20

of the Orange and Brown Talk podcast. And

14:22

national staff back here during COVID. Again, we're

14:24

talking the off-season program since all of those

14:26

dates were released by the NFL and their

14:29

teams today. So Mary Kay

14:31

said it there right before the break.

14:33

I do think this is one of

14:35

the other big topics of the off

14:37

season because Jerry Judy has been their

14:39

biggest acquisition. I think so far their

14:41

newest biggest acquisition so far. And

14:43

I know he's coming to Cleveland

14:45

obviously with a certain perception. Of course,

14:47

he hasn't had a thousand yard season.

14:49

I think people are skeptical of the

14:51

extension. The Browns have shelled out for

14:53

him. We've talked about that earlier in the

14:55

week and some things Andrew Barry said

14:57

about acquiring him at the NFL owners

14:59

meetings, but I am really

15:02

curious. You hit the nail on

15:04

the head there to not just see what

15:06

he's like out there catching passes

15:09

from Deshaun Watson and Jamis Winston

15:11

and even Tyler Huntley, perhaps, but

15:14

to also see those interactions that we're

15:16

going to get between him and Amari

15:18

Cooper. And again, at this stage of

15:21

the off season, we don't have locker

15:23

room access until the season. We're not

15:25

fully kind of seeing these guys interact

15:27

and gleaning things about their personalities, but

15:29

this is really your first glimpse of

15:31

that. Absolutely. And I

15:34

am really eager to see it

15:36

because you have Elijah Moore.

15:39

You've got a couple of guys from last

15:41

year that are young and trying to make

15:43

sure that they stand their ground in David

15:45

Bell and Cedric Tillman. And you've got Amari

15:47

who sort of leads the show and you've

15:50

got Jerry, the new guy coming in. Interesting

15:53

because most of the time when

15:55

we talked about this receiver room,

15:57

it was a pretty quiet receiver

15:59

room. Right. Well now you're starting to

16:01

get some guys in there that are a little bit

16:03

more vocal Elijah is a little bit more vocal Jerry

16:05

Judy's going to be a little bit more vocal but

16:08

one of the things that I think will be interesting

16:10

is the fact that Amari

16:12

and Jerry and Elijah

16:15

all hail from South Florida so

16:17

they can all finish each other's

16:19

football Sentences they have similar backgrounds.

16:21

They understand what it was like

16:23

to grow up in that part

16:25

of Florida and the competitive nature

16:28

of Prep football and youth

16:31

football down there. They sort of have a

16:33

lot of Unspoken common bond

16:35

going on. So I think that

16:37

will be good for all of them

16:39

and then you've got the Alabama

16:41

ties between Jerry

16:44

and Amari and I mean that makes you

16:46

family right there, right? I mean you're just

16:48

gonna be talking about things that Nick Saban

16:50

did and how he did things and They

16:53

they have so much in common those two and

16:55

I think it's really going to help Jerry Judy

16:58

I think Jerry needs a

17:00

little Amari Cooper in his life I really do

17:02

and we have seen you wrote a whole story

17:04

about it I've been talking to

17:06

guys about it the minute they hit the doorstep

17:08

like Michael Woods how they have catch themselves to

17:12

Amari and they just don't let go and It

17:15

really helps them and that's what happens when

17:17

you have a five-time Pro bowler you want

17:19

to be like him So I think that's

17:21

going to be really good for them. And

17:23

then yesterday I wrote about the

17:26

fact that and we talked about a little

17:28

bit that you they might end up Extending

17:31

Amari Cooper, which I think will be great I think it'd

17:33

be great for him to go into this season and even

17:35

this offseason if they can get it done Knowing

17:37

that he's also here for multiple

17:40

years. So I think that will

17:42

bring some new energy to the

17:44

room perhaps Yeah, I've said it before

17:46

I do think since you did shell

17:48

out this extension for Jerry Judy They

17:50

should extend Amari now Like there shouldn't

17:52

be a question about it in my

17:54

mind because I do think quite honestly

17:56

a lot of Jerry's success could hinder

17:58

on his is burgeoning mentor-mentee

18:01

relationship with Amari Cooper. I think for

18:03

fans who, especially are from Northeast Ohio,

18:05

if we have any listeners from South

18:07

Florida, I'm sure you can attest to

18:10

this. When we talk to

18:12

these players, especially these receivers from South

18:14

Florida, I just think there's always

18:16

something different about them. I think I started

18:18

to kind of put that together last year

18:21

from the time Elijah Morfos got here

18:23

and the way he talked about Amari.

18:26

And it's just, even the way Amari

18:28

had built up his reputation as

18:31

a high schooler in the

18:33

Miami area. That alone was,

18:35

I think, super influential on

18:37

a lot of these younger

18:39

receivers who are from the

18:41

area. And like you said,

18:44

Jerry Judy has that added Alabama connection. I

18:46

know when I talked to Elijah Morfos, he

18:49

talked about, oh yeah, I would pull up

18:51

YouTube clips of Amari at Alabama before my

18:53

seven on sevens in high school and try

18:55

to mimic his route. These guys, I think

18:57

it's just a very different understanding

19:00

and I'm sure that exists with players from

19:02

other parts of the country who find themselves

19:04

mixed together and there's maybe a certain institutional

19:06

knowledge. But I think the South Florida connection

19:08

with receivers is really important. And from a

19:11

skill set standpoint, you talk to those guys,

19:13

they talk about every receiver from

19:15

South Florida is fast. And what

19:17

they think differentiates themselves is the

19:19

route running. Absolutely, and I'll

19:21

tell you what, Jerry Judy is basically

19:23

known also for his route running. And

19:25

you know that he's been watching film

19:28

of Amari Cooper for many, many years.

19:31

So if it seems like they

19:34

have some crossover and some similarities,

19:37

it's probably because he has assimilated

19:39

so much of Amari Cooper's game

19:41

into his own. So

19:43

I'm looking forward to seeing that. I've already watched

19:45

some of it on film, but I can't wait

19:48

to see it in person. And he

19:50

really can separate. He

19:52

can do that. But just like Amari can,

19:55

I'm sure he can also make the contested

19:57

catch. He hasn't done it as

19:59

much. as he will here or

20:01

as much as he thinks he

20:03

can, but that's

20:06

largely because he's gotten

20:08

open so much and really hasn't had to make

20:10

as many contested catches. So looking

20:12

forward to see how that goes. And then also

20:15

just the dynamic. I mean, what does

20:17

this do for Elijah? What

20:19

does this mean for Elijah, knowing that

20:21

Jerry Judy is coming in here as

20:24

the number two receiver. When you're paying

20:26

someone 16.25 million dollars per year, that's

20:30

what the average is over the four years

20:33

of his contract. And that's how, I'm

20:35

sure the Browns are looking at it. And that's how I think

20:38

you need to look at this contract. You can't

20:40

really just separate it out and say, oh well,

20:42

there's this one year for this. And then there's

20:44

this three years for this. It's basically a four

20:46

year deal worth 16.25 million dollars. That's

20:50

my story Ashley, and I'm sticking with it.

20:54

I trust your memory for numbers. I

20:57

would bet a lot on your memory for numbers at

20:59

this point, I've seen it firsthand. Even when you're not

21:01

sure about something, you're usually right. Yeah, that's

21:03

so weird. I never realized that I

21:05

had that until you guys pointed it

21:08

out to me. So now I'm just

21:10

embracing it. I'm like, oh, I guess

21:12

I have a mind for a memory.

21:14

A memory for numbers. Not necessarily being

21:16

able to compute the numbers

21:18

per se. I don't know if

21:20

I could sit down and knock out a bunch of calculus,

21:23

but I do remember

21:25

a lot of numbers. But anyways, I

21:27

think that's gonna be interesting

21:30

to see how Elijah kind of

21:32

maybe takes it up another notch

21:35

this off season. Now he's

21:38

got somebody in front of him as the

21:40

number two receiver, and he's gonna have to

21:42

fight and scrap and claw for any

21:44

non 11 personnel reps.

21:48

11 personnel being three wides. Whenever

21:50

they're not in three wides, I mean,

21:52

there are gonna be times where it's

21:54

Amari and Jerry. But

21:57

if you play your cards right and

21:59

show. that you deserve to be out

22:01

there, then sometimes in two wides, it's

22:04

gonna be Amari and Elijah. But he's gonna have

22:06

to work to make sure that that happens.

22:09

Yeah, I'm also curious with Elijah,

22:11

and I think last year we

22:13

never saw him get outwardly

22:15

frustrated. I think there was this narrative about

22:17

him coming out of the Jets, and Mary

22:20

Kay, you wrote a whole big story basically

22:22

debunking the reasons he left and maybe what

22:24

his attitude was like at the end and

22:26

trying to set the record straight there. I

22:30

am just curious how he is going to

22:32

be this year with that. Are we gonna

22:34

get kind of that same calmness

22:36

to him? Because I felt like he would

22:39

talk about being frustrated, but again, we never

22:41

saw it. He never became a problem. I

22:43

remember writing a story about Midway through the

22:45

season, and he's saying, like, I know what

22:47

my numbers are because a reporter was trying

22:50

to ask something along those lines, and he's

22:52

like, well, I know it better than anybody,

22:54

trust me. So I thought you saw glimpses

22:56

of it, but it never boiled over. And

22:59

I'm wondering, again, is that something where he got

23:01

an unfair rep throughout the early years of his

23:04

career, the really early years, and how

23:06

is he gonna handle that mounting

23:08

pressure? Because I do think he comes

23:10

into this year with something to prove,

23:12

and obviously as long as he has Deshaun

23:14

Watson throwing him the football the entire time,

23:16

that is the guy they thought was going

23:19

to mesh really well with Deshaun. Yeah,

23:21

you know what? I think a lot of it has

23:23

to do with the fact that they have instilled,

23:26

developed a culture here that

23:28

is so team-oriented that there

23:30

really is no room for

23:33

that kind of huffing and puffing

23:35

around. And if you're going

23:37

to be that guy, then you're probably not

23:40

going to be here very long. This

23:42

is a team concept culture, and I

23:44

think these guys know that. I think

23:46

that Jerry Judy is going to find

23:48

out very, very quickly that your body

23:50

language is going to have to be

23:52

good when you're on the field. Even

23:54

if you think you're open and you

23:56

didn't get the ball, you do not

23:58

want to be expressing that. with

24:00

your shoulders and your

24:02

hands and anything else that you

24:04

can come up with. So

24:06

I think this is a place where, again,

24:09

the team concept is so

24:11

highly valued that most of

24:14

these guys learn right away that that's

24:16

not how they roll here to show

24:18

that you're frustrated or you wish you

24:20

were getting the ball more or any of those kinds

24:22

of things. So one of the other

24:24

things I've been thinking about with the offense in

24:26

these OTA sessions that I'm

24:29

especially curious about, I was thinking

24:31

about last year and

24:33

how we watched Jim Schwartz and

24:35

things we learned about Jim Schwartz

24:37

at that time, for example, learning

24:40

he would just sit himself right in the middle

24:42

of a drill to talk to guys. And he

24:44

wasn't afraid to be a little fiery. And he

24:47

showed up wearing a Jordan Knessy jersey one day

24:49

and Kevin said, oh, this is something he likes

24:51

to do. And then we never saw him do

24:53

it again. Maybe he did. But you get little

24:56

colorful tidbits like that. And we got it with

24:58

Bubba Ventron too. I'm curious,

25:00

what do you think we're going to get

25:02

out of Ken Dorsey and watching him in

25:04

these sessions? Because I'm really curious. I mean,

25:06

I haven't covered Ken Dorsey before, but it

25:09

is my first time going to OTA with

25:11

a different O.C. at the helm here. I

25:14

think he's probably going to be

25:16

pretty animated and pretty fiery. I

25:18

mean, we've seen things like that

25:20

from him. We know that he

25:22

is crazy competitive. And I

25:24

think that will show. And I think he also

25:27

knows that they have a very small,

25:29

compressed time frame in which to implement

25:32

the new scheme and the new terminology

25:34

and get the new staff acclimated and

25:36

the new players acclimated. So I think

25:38

there's going to be a sense of

25:40

intensity, a sense of urgency on his

25:42

part. And I think we're going to

25:44

see him really dive right in

25:46

and be very vocal and take

25:49

over. I

25:53

don't know that he's necessarily going to be

25:55

calling plays yet. We couldn't, of course, get

25:57

that out of Kevin again yet. I

26:00

think he's going to show his leadership skills

26:03

right from the jump. Yeah, we

26:05

keep hearing references to these, I

26:07

guess, Ken Dorsey has some

26:09

legendary pickup basketball stories and things like that.

26:11

So I'm curious if they have that basketball

26:13

who's got again, which I'm sure they will.

26:15

They'll trot that over to the practice field.

26:17

I'm curious if we're going to see Ken

26:20

pick up a ball too. But Mary Kay,

26:22

I think it makes sense to leave it

26:24

here. We talked about the offense. I think

26:26

the passing game in the quarterbacks is the

26:28

biggest part of this offseason program. But not

26:30

to let us into a pot idea for

26:32

Monday or next week, but maybe if you're

26:34

listening again, I think maybe it would make

26:36

sense to talk about some defensive things we're

26:38

watching, maybe even some special teams. We could

26:40

get into that next week. But I do

26:42

think the quarterbacks here are probably the most

26:44

important part, right? I'm not wrong in saying

26:46

that. And I'm asking that because I have

26:48

a newsletter coming out basically about that on

26:50

Saturday morning too. Oh, absolutely. There's

26:53

no question about that, that that

26:55

is the biggest takeaway or

26:57

the biggest storyline heading into the offseason

27:00

program is the quarterback room. So I think

27:02

we all can't wait for that and

27:04

it will be here before we know it. All

27:07

right, so you can check out

27:09

all of our coverage over at

27:11

cleveland.com/Browns. Check out our YouTube channel.

27:13

That's Cleveland Browns over at cleveland.com.

27:16

While you're on our site, forgot to mention

27:18

become a football insider subscriber. Again, you'll get

27:20

texts from us. You'll get a newsletter from

27:22

us every morning in your inbox. And finally,

27:25

check out that Instagram that I mentioned earlier

27:27

in the podcast. That's orange and brown talk

27:29

over there. So all right, Mary Kay, Dan

27:32

will be back on Monday. This has been

27:34

so much fun, but we'll talk.

27:36

We'll regroup over the weekend. Well, like

27:38

I said, you've done a great job

27:40

of hosting and you've certainly

27:43

done a tremendous job of producing and

27:45

uploading, which is so much harder than

27:47

anybody really realizes. And so thank you

27:49

for doing that all week because I

27:52

know it's very, very, how long does

27:54

it take you to produce a podcast?

27:56

Yeah. And I don't want to speak for

27:58

Dan specifically because I'm sure. Dan has this

28:00

down to a science now. But I think

28:03

for me, from the time we start recording,

28:05

until I tweet the podcast link out, it's

28:07

typically about three and a half or four

28:09

hours. I mean, it's a while. And today's

28:11

the shortest podcast we've done this week. We're

28:14

at 27 minutes right now. Might get a

28:16

little cut down in editing, but yeah,

28:18

it takes a while. It's hard. When Dan

28:20

first gave us this tutorial last year, Maritay

28:22

and I were like, what? What

28:25

does that even mean? It was like Dan was speaking

28:27

a different language. It was like he was bilingual and

28:29

we had no idea until he sat down and

28:31

gave us this tutorial. Well, I

28:33

give you a lot of credit for actually going

28:35

through with it and producing the pods because I

28:37

have not done one of those myself yet. One

28:39

of these days I have to break

28:42

down and actually do that. But thank you

28:44

so much for doing that all week. I

28:46

know it's been very time consuming. When I

28:48

was down in Orlando at the owners meetings,

28:50

you were just handling it and doing it.

28:52

And you did a great job of hosting.

28:55

I really, really appreciate that. And

28:57

yes, we definitely missed you Dan, but

28:59

Ashley, you represented well. Yay.

29:02

All right, Maritay, I will talk to you on

29:04

Monday, Wednesday. Okay.
