Nyesha Carey is the founder of The Powherful Network, an Orlando-based women’s event company. Her goal is to create spaces for women to connect, collaborate, and build strength and power together.

The Powherful Network has 2 events coming up in honor of women’s history month:

Both events aim to gather women and share stories of the female experience. In fact, I will appear on the panel on March 24th, and I really hope you join me!

1) A desire to have women work together inspired Nyesha to start The Powherful Network.

Growing up, Nyesha experienced a lot of competition and negative energy from other women who befriended her. Somehow she found herself unwittingly in a lot of frenemy type relationships.

Eventually, these friendships would end, and Nyesha was left scratching her head. Distraught, she wondered what she did to get hurt by women she saw as friends.

However, she learned that some people couldn’t handle her personality because they were threatened by her leadership abilities.

Rather than feeling down about this discovery, Nyesha embraced her leadership skills. As a result, she decided to plan an event where women could connect. She felt it was important for women to realize it was possible to work together and lift each other up.

She hosted her first event, “Let’s Talk Woman to Woman,” where she delved into the topic of frenemies. There she led a discussion on how women can come together to work on bigger and better things.

In March of 2017, she put her second event but rebranded it as “PowHerful.”

Now Nyesha is back for her third year with PowHerful and Productive, a panel and networking event Nyesha hopes will build on the conversation she started back in 2016.

It’s important we are “allowing women to network in a positive atmosphere and, most of all, become accountable to each other,” Nyesha says, “I want women to see the good in each other.”

2) Nyesha planned two awesome events to finish out Women’s History Month.

The PowHerful and Productive panel discussion will take place on March 24th, where women can hear community leaders share their experiences of being a woman in their careers, homes, interpersonal relationships, and so much more.

While this series is a panel event, Nyesha hopes women do more than just listen and attend the event. She hopes it inspires women to leave feeling empowered with actionable ways to be powerful and productive.

“We have to leave there, and we have to be productive with the knowledge that we’ve learned,” Nyesha told me.

Additionally, at her next event on March 26th, HERStory: A Fashion Show, Nyesha plans to celebrate women of all different backgrounds, body sizes, and styles. With that in mind, these women will take the stage to share their confidence and stories with the community.

“Their story lies on the outside of them and on the inside of them.”

She is collaborating together with model and event coordinator Briana DeShields, who will help sort through all the details of the event. They are also collaborating with a few local designers to tell their own story through the art of clothing.

3) A passion project puts Nyesha in the spotlight as Mrs. Bahamas Galaxy.

While growing up, Nyesha always wanted to pursue modeling. She decided to explore that desire this year. That’s when a friend reached out and encouraged her to try a pageant because she thought Nyesha would find it fun to do.

So Nyesha did some research and came across the Galaxy Pageant competition. She took a leap and reached out to the competition director. Now Nyesha will appear as Mrs. Bahamas Galaxy. She will compete in the spring pageant for the Mrs. International Galaxy title.

While the pageant isn’t about winning, Nyesha looks forward to competing. “Whether I win or whether I lose, it’s a journey and I’m excited about it,” she said.

However, she needs to raise money. So she started a GoFundMe page to help with entry fees. She welcomes any help she can get from her community.

4) Inspired by her mother, Nyesha constantly tries to stand in her own strength.

Nyesha biggest influence is her mother. She was a single mom who worked road construction to support her family. Because of that strength and independence she saw growing up, Nyesha knew she would be the same.

“As women, we have to present ourselves as strong. If we don’t present ourselves as strong, people will think we’re vulnerable and will walk all over us.”

However, as she got older and started venturing outside of the home, she started to encounter messages that women can’t be too strong or too independent. It confused Nyesha which made her question what her place in the world needed to look like.

“We get lost in the opinion of others if we go in headfirst as ourselves. To be yourself in a world where it is so hard to be yourself…continue to fight daily to be yourself.”

5) Creating safe spaces for storytelling helps women build confidence.

Nyesha believes that creating safe spaces for women is especially important in order to build strength and power. Because the act of sharing stories openly and vulnerably allows us to build collective power and confidence in ourselves.

“Women are the driving force here in the world. If we don’t gain the confidence to realize it, we will lose our force.” Nyesha said.

Moreover, when women come together to share experiences, they learn from each other. Whenever women feel they’re not alone, their own struggles feel more manageable. Especially when they hear about other women going through similar trials and tribulations.

“It gives you the opportunity to learn from their mistakes and what they’ve been through so you can go to the next level without making the same mistakes.”

Together, women can feel like they are part of a community that understands what they’re going through, even when the outside world doesn’t allow them that space for reflection and vulnerability.

“We have to learn how to accept ourselves regardless of anyone’s opinions about ourselves.”

About Nyesha Carey

imageFounder of The Powherful Networkimage, Girl Chat Networkimage, Bahamian Girls Rockimage; Nyesha Carey is known for navigating through every avenue she takes in business and life with intense passion, and has recently over the years turned her passion toward connecting powerful women together, with the intent of accountability as a mechanism for success.

Nyesha is an experienced world traveler who has visited Austria, Czech Republic, Paris, Germany, Italy, Spain, and her home Country, the beautiful Island of the Bahamas. In addition, she lived in Dubai, UAE for 2 1/2 years. Because of her experiences all over the world, Nyesha quickly realized that far too often there are not enough relationships matured between women. This revolution jolted Nyesha’s curiosity, leading her to want to know the reasons why women created a barrier of communication, lowered their standard for liberating one another, and instead has raised the standard for competing against each other. She knew there had to be a deeper meaning.

As a stay at home mom for over 10 years, it was time for Nyesha to expand beyond her comfort zone. Nyesha was always told her attributes as a  mother, leader, woman, and as the wife of a US Army Veteran, would always help her walk in purpose.

Nyesha knew women needed to be reminded of their power, their beauty, their ability to balance family and business, and the importance of women supporting women. Therefore, she set out to break the barrier!

Her first event; Let’s Talk Woman To Woman dealt with deeper psychological reasoning as to why women couldn’t work together. There were over 100 women in attendance to support, over 20 vendors, and even generated a few men. The rave reviews, the inspirational messages, and the continuous inquires for more, pushed Nyesha to work harder, but this time with a long-term plan. After taking some time to reflect and to brainstorm on the right branding and concept, in 2017 Let’s Talk Woman To Woman was rebranded as The Powherful Network. The Powherful Network’s main goal is to create an atmosphere for women that provides tools, motivation, and accountability.

The Powherful Network does not just conduct typical events, our events force women to step out of comfort zones, have fun, think deeper, and most importantly connect with great women just like themselves for accountability.

There are 3 w’s the network push to ensure all members stay on task:

  1. We are not catty,
  2. We are not in competition,
  3. We are Powherful together!

Furthermore, as recently crowned 2018 Mrs. Bahamas Galaxy, Nyesha now looks for The Powherful Networkimage, Girl Chat Networkimage & Bahamian Girls Rockimage to connect and inspire young girls and women, through mentorship and by developing events that connect women all around the World! We are stronger together, because we are Powherful together!
