Orchids of the most minuscule variety and odd colors, grew everywhere around my Father’s home, Paraíso de Dios, in the Mountains of the Rain, in El Yunque, Puerto Rico: the only American Rain Forest. Everything he planted grew in impossible abundance, his verdant, volcanic soil, rich and fragrant. The strange and spongy grass, like shredded lily pads beneath his feet.
