This is the poetry of an "outsider". D. J. Swales was born into the sectarian and ethnic violence of ‘The Troubles’ in West Belfast. Since escaping with his young mother he has lived in exile across four continents, twelve countries and three U.S. states. His first published poetry, prose poetry and short travel memoir vignettes collections - segmented by geography - are to be dedicated to Cody, a young Instagram friend who dreamed of seeing the world. Cody departed this life in 2016 - aged just twenty three - while driving to work at Walmart in Lexington, Kentucky.
