Can you die of a broken heart? Perhaps not, but heart attacks have been known to be triggered by intense emotion and mental stress. Malcolm Finlay, Senior Clinical Research Fellow at UCL, is investigating the electrical and physiological mechanisms behind this phenomenon. He talks to the Wellcome Trust's Daniel Glaser about how an increased understanding may help to identify those most at risk - whether from emotional stress or the strain of competitive sports - and reduce their chance of sudden death.
