Hi this is Chris Legaspi and in this episode we're going to talk about Photoshop drawing. Now in the last episode I briefly defined drawing. I simply defined drawing as making marks at it’s core essence. And as we get more sophisticated we can arrange those marks we make, the series of lines shapes and tones, and soft marks and hard marks. We can arrange them to make pictures as we get more sophisticated. Drawings essentially is mark making. Now, Photoshop drawing just means that you are doing the act of drawing using the software Photoshop and most likely using an electronic interface like Wacom tablets that simulates a pen or pencil. And why would you want to use Photoshop? You know because I'm sure everyone listening here, you know, everyone, we all drew as children.

When we were younger we all picked up pencil and paper and crayons and we did drawings the traditional way. But why would you want to use Photoshop? Well for me, the main advantage of Photoshop really is editing. Editing is the main advantage of why you would want to draw in directly in Photoshop versus pencil and paper, the traditional way. As a professional artist you want to have the ability to quickly edit your work especially if you have tight deadlines if you are doing client work. You want to make changes. You want to do quick edits. And painting in Photoshop allows you to do that almost to an infinite range. And another interesting advantage or another interesting or powerful tool that's available in digital software like Photoshop and other painting apps, digital drawing apps, is the ability to quickly transform black and white into color.

So we can begin with black and white drawings, either using lines or tones and then just with a, literally with a flip of a switch with the various tools we have available, like image adjustment tools, we can quickly transform black and white drawings into colors. That’s a fun and powerful tool and we’ll explore that more as we talk about painting in Photoshop. Okay well that's the end of this episode. Until next time, get out there, keep drawing, keep painting, and build up that mileage. Bye for now.
