At Pentecost, the Spirit enables all believers – not just the apostles but all the followers of Jesus – to speak in other languages so that the crowd could “hear them speaking in our own language about the great things that God has done! (verse 11).” Having gotten their attention by this miracle (signs and wonders are not merely for our entertainment/enjoyment/encouragement but area means to an end: to actively promote the Kingdom of God!), Peter is empowered by the HolySpirit to preach the message of salvation through faith in Christ. The result being that around 3000 people came to faith in Jesus! Withso many people converted at once, little wonder there was a focus on listening to the apostles’ teaching along with fellowship and worship together. All this was empowered by the Holy Spirit and played an important part in the on-going growth of the Kingdom.
