I am joined today by Dr. Isiah Lavender III, an english professor at the University of Georgia.  Dr. Lavender was drawn to science fiction and fantasy as a child, and turned that interest into a career through his research of race in science fiction and fantasy.  Dr. Lavender is the author of 5 books, "Afrofuturism Rising: The literary prehistory of a movement", "Dis-orienting Planets: Racial Representations of Asia in Science Fiction", "Black and Brown Planets:The Politics of Race in Science Fiction", "Race in American Science Fiction" and forthcoming book "Critical Race Theory in Science Fiction".
