In this episode, Sara has a conversation with Michelle Hunter. Michelle shares how she works daily to embody that she is enough just as she is.  Whenever she is struggling she goes back to the simple phrase "I am enough just as I am, just as I am". We so often do not give ourselves enough credit for how incredible we are just as we are.

  1. Grew up always believing that being skinny meant that she was worthy. Self-talk was a constant stream of negativity and not feeling that she was good enough or worthy. Always concerned with what other people thought of her or what people were saying about her.
  2. This self-talk created immense levels of anxiety and the need to control and predict every moment of every gathering or scenario. She truly believed that she could not show up as herself and be accepted as her. She desperately wanted to be just like everyone else and as a result never really got to know herself and Michelle
  3. Her social and personal anxiety changed as she grew, after the birth of her first child she experience anxiety around leaving him even with his dad as she was unable to control anything that could possibly happen when she was not present. She experiences anxiety around his development, starting daycare/school, and not always being present
  4. Michelle lost a child near the end of her second pregnancy and her first experience of losing true control over her own experience. Shortly after she found herself pregnant again and all she wanted was to know that a stillbirth was not going to happen again and no one could provide that answer. Using all of her control to know her movements and always being ready to go to the hospital if needed, if she could control that then she could save her.
  5. Michelle found help in finding and connecting with other women who had, had a similar experience. Women who knew a similar experience and could connect with what she was feeling. Helping her to move forward. However, this experience was proof that she was not good enough.
  6. Control remain the only mechanism she had to cope with her anxiety. Michelle began to shift her control from external to internal. Controlling what she ate, when she ate, how often she worked out, and how hard she worked out.
