One of my clients recently reached out to me about a problem she was having with her physical therapy clinic.

She was getting too many inquiries from her website of people wanting to come in for PT, and she wanted to put a notice on her website that she wasn’t seeing new patients.

In my opinion, this is an amazing problem to have! Overflow is a sign that you have other problems in your business and presents you with an opportunity to fix them.

If you’re faced with more patients than you can handle, sending them away should be your last choice. You never know the long-term impact this will have on your potential new clients and your business in the future.

Instead, always be looking to grow your business by at least 5-10% each year to make up for inflation, changes in the market, and unforeseen investments you’ll need to make throughout the year.

When you have too many inquiries of people wanting to come in for treatment, you have two options:

  1. Raise your clinic’s prices
  2. Hire some more people

Raising your prices for current and future clients will help you for several reasons:

  • Some current clients will drop off when prices go up, opening up space for new clients
  • You’ll take more money home from your business
  • You can do more with your PT clinic, like hiring new people!

Hiring someone new to work in your business helps it to grow!

  • If you hire a front desk person, they can manage the influx of inquiries, create a cancellation list, and when current clients cancel last minute, you can have them book someone on the waitlist!
  • If you hire another therapist, you increase your capacity for new clients and can serve more people in your community while simultaneously growing your business.

Creating a way to send leads elsewhere should always be a last resort! If you need time to think about how to move forward, create a voicemail or text message that offers a waitlist or referral to other local PTs. But don’t have it anywhere on your website where people searching for your services can find it.
