Pens and Pasties is a podcast that talks about social justice and common issues that we deal with in todays society. It is based purely on the opinion of Pens(Tim Brix) & Pasties(Jazzie Ravotas) and their experience growing up as mixed chicks in America. Though that is something many listeners can relate to, Pens & Pasties experiences were quite unique with their family dynamics and where they were raised. In depth/insight experience on how we cope with different social dynamics/interactions. Pens grew up in upstate New York and moved to Michigan in her 20s. Their family is a mix of Puerto Rician and Black. She has not only dealt with racial issues, but also gender identity issues as well. Often feeling like the rainbow sheep of the family, trying to transform from Monet Cheathem to Tim Brix. Their role as Pens is to talk about her own experiences and make the public more aware of what it is like to struggle with gender identity issues. Pasties grew up in The Upper Peninsula of Michigan, but was originally adopted from Central America. Her family is mainly, Swedish and Lithuanian and her hometown community was of Finnish decent. She wasn’t exposed to many diverse groups of people until her 20s, when she moved to lower Michigan. At which point, Pasties often talks about having to feel like she needed to make a choice on how to fit in. Pens and Pasties is striving to be able to talk about current issues and events, along with doing live streaming of their involvement in upcoming marches and protests.
