Piano Recital by Dr HYE-WON JO
Pianist Dr. Hye-Won Jo was appointed as a Senior Lecturer (Assistant Professor) of Piano at the Faculty of Music (School of Music) of the Universiti Teknologi MARA while in her twenties. Her performance achievements, with a repertoire consisting of a huge selection of pieces from every era of the standard literature, have been praised by the world-famous pianist Peter Frankl, a professor at Yale University. Dr. Jo, a twenty-nine time prize winner of national and international competitions, was invited to appear on the Educational Broadcasting System television station in Seoul, Korea in her college years.As the Grand Prize winner of the Kyunhyang Music Competition, Dr. Jo was awarded a piano as the trophy. While in the United States, she gave 11 solo recitals, 9 solo appearances, and over 30 chamber performances as a concert pianist in a span of 4 years. She was invited to perform at Carnegie Hall in New York. Her chamber performance recordings at the Indiana University were published through the WorldCat.In Asia, Dr. Jo was invited to premiere new music for the Asian Composers League. In her college years, she was selected to publish a book to introduce strategies on how to improve scholastic abilities. Dr. Jo achieved the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Piano Performance and Literature with a minor in Piano Pedagogy from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, to which she was admitted as a recipient of a full scholarship and the Graduate Teaching Assistantship. Being a doctoral graduate in her twenties, she finished all of the departmental requirements in the shortest time of any graduate. She received her Master of Music degree in Piano from Indiana University at Bloomington with a high distinction, where she was awarded the Honors Scholarship by the University International Services and studied harpsichord for her minor area. She appeared in the Indiana Daily Student newspaper in recognition of her recital. As the highest ranked graduate of her class, she earned her Bachelor of Music degree in Piano with the Highest Honors Award from Seoul National University in Korea. Dr. Jo, who was the Miss Little Korea, was a winner of the Honors Full Scholarship by the Seoul National University President.
