From the 2016 Plant Biosecurity CRC Science Exchange: Imported high-risk plants spend up to two and a half years in Post Entry Quarantine (PEQ) facilities prior to their release to plant industries. The prolonged PEQ screening limits the capability of plant industries to access new national and international market opportunities. We have implemented a next generation sequencing approach that relies on the natural plant response to viruses to develop a single assay that can diagnose nearly all known viruses and viroids. In this presentation we will present recent outcomes of the PBCRC 2064 project where we screen larger sample sets for selected plant industries. Overall it is anticipated that the outcomes of this project will reduce the PEQ screening lag times of viral pathogens to less than 12 months.Speakers: Mark Whattam; Frank Greenhalgh; Roberto Barrero.
