I am joined by actor Rohan Gotobed (Harry Potter, Slaughterhouse Rulez, the Trebor Mint Advert) to discuss the first part of Tony Kushner's 'gay fantasia on national themes' Angels in America.
Grappling with religion, Reaganism, death, love, sex and the ever-present AIDS crisis of the mid-80s, Kushner's two-part epic has had dozens of re-writes, revivals and an award-winning TV adaptation by HBO. It's fantastical, interweaving narrative of New-Yorkers trying to define themselves amidst a cynical and terrifying world achieved instant status in theatrical canon when it premiered in the early 1990s. It is easy to see why.
Next episode, Rohan is back to finish our discussion of Angels in America, when we focus our attentions to Part 2: Perestroika.
