In this episode of Podcast Bay, Scott pulls back the curtain to reveal one of the secret forces behind Podcast Bay's success: Jesse Chambers, the editor for Podcast Bay Productions. Scott describes the process of starting Podcast Bay, the insane growth that happened in a short period of time, and his solution to the demand that he had a hard time keeping up with.

Jesse kicks things off by telling us about his interest in music and how he didn't really expect to have a career in audio until the opportunity fell into his lap to work with Scotty on podcasts. He talks about how much he's enjoying it, and Scott expresses his relief, because honestly: He HATES the editing process. One of the things that really set Jesse apart was his eagerness to learn more and his curiosity about the editing and production.

-Trash-

Jesse brings up bad audio as his main piece of trash. He hates hearing glitches in people's audio, and having to remove it, or clean it up is a pain. He attributes it to laggy internet connection and how it drags about some of the words from the host or guest.

He also talks about mic control, and how people who move their mic away from their mouths while they're speaking, and the issues it causes in production when trying to adjust volume. He also mentions background noise like pens clicking, dogs barking, and cars driving by drive him absolutely nuts. Scott decided to use this moment to click a pen.

-Treasure-

One of the pieces of treasure that Keeps Jesse coming back in spite of the overwhelming workload is the knowledge. He highlights some of the shows that he gets a lot of enjoyment from, and being able to contribute to their overall production value, and learn a bunch of new stuff in the process makes it very difficult to call this work.

The guys take a moment to gush over British voices before Jesse explains that he loves the entire job, which makes it hard to narrow in on any one specific treasure. He says that when Scott texts him asking him to get things done, he jumps right on it, but when his other job calls him, it gives him a feeling he doesn't enjoy.

Scotty takes a moment to publicly thank Jesse for all of his hard work, explains that he was hesitant to hire a team because of all of the negative things he'd heard from other business owners. He was worried to hand control over to someone else in case things didn't go well, but since he knew Jesse could deliver, and was eager to deliver, it completely transformed his business experience, and gave him the confidence he needed to grow his business to a level they both could enjoy without all of the stress that comes from trying to do everything on his own.

-Tricks-

Scott tells Jesse that one of the tricks he uses without even knowing he's using it, is that he's not afraid to reach out to people to ask questions and learn more about his craft. Jesse attribute that trick to how knowledgeable and welcoming the Podcast Bay community is. When he can't find things through his own searching, he feels good about bringing his questions to the experienced pros in Podcast Bay and he knows he'll get an answer without being made to feel stupid.

Set yourself up with good audio equipment. He says that being picky on what you're using, where you position it and how seriously you take your gear, software and systems will make a huge difference in how good your show sounds to your listener, which will in turn: bring you more listeners.

Jesse talks about the value of fiddling and experimenting with various aspects of recording and editing in order to figure out what you like and what you don't like. He's taking a slower approach to his show, from the format to the actual recording in order to see exactly how he wants to go about it
