Anyone with kids can tell you some funny stories about working from home during this pandemic. But have you ever had to do a live broadcast for a national radio show hidden in your furnace room?
Kristy Kirkup is a political reporter in Canada, who currently works for the Globe and Mail. In 2017, she was part of a Canadian Press team that won the Canadian Journalism Foundation Jackman Award for Excellence in Journalism for a series about sexual trauma in Indigenous communities. She is passionate about using the power of journalism to shine a light in dark places and to lift up the voices of the silenced and forgotten.
Throughout the pandemic, she has been sharing snippets of her real life moments managing a toddler and reporting for national broadcasts. Her Twitter feed has also become a source of positivity and lightness.
We’re so excited to talk to Kristy about managing mental health while reporting on some heavy topics, pandemic work from home realities, and social media’s impact on journalism.
Happy listening!
